It was a shock to his system to learn of Wanheda's demise, and an even stronger shock to learn of Sayaka's murder. He was free. Well, technically, he'd been given to Sayaka's daughter, but he hadn't seen her in some time, much to his disappointment, making him well and truly alone.
Zero really didn't have any guidance in being on his own. The sickly looking tom had spent his life under the control of someone else, made to do this, eat that, test this new plant. Blah, blah, blah, all his life. All in turn for the fact she'd been the reason he survived. It was a sort of irony, that he'd outlived her after all. And he wasn't entirely certain what his life meant now. It was his own to live, but he'd never truly considered what he wanted. What did he want?
He sat in the shadow of a building as he stared out at the last few snowflakes falling to the cold concrete.
