Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The image she was chasing was always just out of reach, a bare wisp of something she could see but never quite catch. Despite her fierce pursuit she was still failing to be the boldest, the biggest, the best. At times it hurt to breath, lungs choking for air she never let herself quite grasp, to busy faking her way through her childhood. Determined that if she simply forces herself into a spot she doesn't belong in she will eventually mold into it. Bones broken and spirit bleeding from being mangled into a shape to suit the role she fit herself into, a sorry state that she deemed acceptable simply to become what she wished.
For this reason she burst into the nursery and set her eyes on first other kit she saw, "Firekit!" She called as she took a bold step forward dragging her ruined internal self along. Fake it until you make it they say. "Do you want to come on an adventure?" She posed it dramatically, having stepped another step forward to lower her voice. Dramatically looking around to add intrigue to the conversation, subtle manipulations to try and hook the other kit.
At first, the fiery orange tom simply grunted in response, flipping over in his bedding so that his back now faced the other kit. But when she said the word 'adventure', his head tilted over just in time to see Fabledkit look around, and Firekit found himself being drawn in. The hint of a smirk bled through where there once was a frown, and the young tom forced the remainder of his sleepiness away as he pushed up to all fours. His plans for the day were to just sleep as long as others would allow him, and then be his normal noisy self around camp, but this seemed way more interesting. Less attention on him, maybe, but definitely interesting nonetheless.
"Say no more," he said once he was finally standing, leaning in closely like they were sharing some sort of secret only the two of them could ever know about. "I'm in. Oh, I'm definitely in. Where are we going?" It was hilarious, seeing the loud kit treat this as a secret, but even when he lowered his voice it still seemed loud in the confines of the nursery. Firekit didn't seem to notice that fact though, and was fully convinced that he was being as quiet as a mouse.
"To the humans campground!" She decided with little deliberation and for shock value more than any other reason. "We will watch and learn, because as they say, you can never know to much about your enemy." She declared before reaching out and prodding him with a paw and giving a wide smile. She whirled and marched off a few steps, stretching her ligaments and tendons to stand at the tallest height she could without raising onto her back legs. "I will be the captain of this journey, and you will be our... navigator!"
"Together we will conquer the twolegs and bring back their heads!" She was on a real roll now, speaking quickly and feverishly for once feeling like she was fitting into the role she had cast herself into. "So hurry up Firekit and lets get a move on, we can't burn daylight. Not when this mission is of so much importance." She started striding off, trusting the other kit to keep the pace. He was her navigator afterall. "No lead us from the camp!" Because in truth Fabledkit did not have the first clue on how to sneak out.
Bring back their heads? Odd, but Firekit could roll with it, he supposed. The way that she spoke of this adventure invigorated him, even if it confused him at the same time. He would be the best navigator that Fabledkit had ever had the honor of laying eyes upon! There was no way that he would ever let her down. The orange tom puffed out his fluffy chest as he marched behind, staying right on the other kit's heels right until the moment she assigned him his task. Then, he sped up his pace just enough to be in the lead. "Leave it to me!" he said, his every word dripping in pride. He continued like that, head held high, for a few more paces before he realized that he had never actually left camp, either. He had vaguely heard stories from those who had, but he was always too caught up in trying to one-up them that he hadn't actually paid attention to any of the details.
He couldn't let Fabledkit know about his lack of knowledge, however. So, straightening his back, he carried on as if he had no doubts, moving as if he had purpose. There was only one way in and out of camp that he knew of, and that's where he was currently leading Fabledkit. Right to the main entrance of camp, where warriors came and went on a daily basis.
Fabledkit couldn't keep the small smile off her features at his enthusiasm, though she tried to keep her expression stern. Wanting to appear as a capable captain for this journey, one that was not ruled by emotions. She wasn't quite she there was a problem letting your emotions rule you but the older cats acted like there was so she was going to do her best to look like she didn't even know what emotions were! As he led the way across camp though her expression wavered and she couldn't quite hid the dubious concern creeping into the shadows of her eyes. Looking between the bright tom and the camp entrance she pursed her lips but made no other mention of their direction.
She supposed if he got them caught she wouldn't actually have to force herself through the rest of this journey by her will alone. So perhaps letting him walk them right out where surely someone would stop them wasn't the worst thing. The only problem was that as they walked forward no one seemed to be paying them any mind. She wondered if it was perhaps everyone was to busy with upcoming events to do so. Or if perhaps they just thought Firekit and herself were very small apprentices.
Unknown to the two kits, beady eyes did watch them go but made no motion to stop them or even call out for them. Instead disappearing back into the medicine cat den as if they had seen nothing at all.
The heartbeats in his chest were pounding in Firekit's ears as they passed through the entrance, not even daring to breathe lest he give them away. He was growing rather lightheaded by the time that they were outside of camp, his mind spinning from both dizziness and the wonder of not actually getting caught during the stupidest escape attempt he'd ever heard of. Finally, Firekit allowed himself a breath, then another as he realized that he was starved for air. Still, his green eyes could hardly focus on what was in front of him, instead he was scanning the area for any warriors that may have sighted the pair. He was fully expecting someone to jump out of the bushes at them, but as the moments ticked by and nothing happened, it finally sunk in that they had succeeded in literally just walking out of camp.
"I, uh," he stopped, wanting to say that he didn't expect that to work, but his desire to appear competent stopped him. He cleared his throat, then turned to face Fabledkit with a large grin. "So, Captain, where are we heading?"
Fabledkit was amazed they hadn't been caught, so amazed in fact she couldn't quite come to terms with the fact that she now actually had to lead them somewhere. "That way!" She deiced pointing in a random direction, though luck was on her side and she didn't actually point towards a twoleg temporary settlement. Later she would wish her dumb luck had run out in that moment rather than later into the trip, but as she would reflect one day, she thought perhaps she was being punished for her silly games of pretend. "We go that way and we will eventually find the twolegs and be able to sneak up on one and take it's head!"
She set off at a jaunty pace, as if she had no care in the world, though internally she was sweating and twisting herself into knots. Trying to calm herself down by convincing herself they would not find anything and she could just declare the twolegs must have moved but half the adventure was the journey anyway. Already she was considering her line delivery and how marveled Firekit would be by it.
There she went again, talking about taking the two-legs' heads. Firekit wasn't too sure about this, but he couldn't find himself to damper Fabledkit's infectious excitement, so he didn't question anything. Besides, it was much too late to turn back now, he decided, since they were already out of camp. Who knows, maybe luck would actually be on their side and everything would work out well. If they actually managed to pull anything off, maybe Calamitystar would reward them for their bravery. He was caught up in imagining a ceremony in their honor, with all eyes on him, that he almost missed when Fabledkit took off again, causing the tom to almost trip over his own paws to catch up.
It wasn't long before he returned to his fantasies of being hailed a hero, and it never once crossed his mind to wonder if Fabledkit actually knew where she was going.
Both of their hopes towards having lady luck on their side were doomed from the start. As the sounds of laughter and voices reached them after what felt like a tremendous amount of walking. In fact, Fabledkit had just been about to suggest turning around. But the sound of people stopped her before she could. Standing, one paw hovering in the air, debating if she should continue forward she finally moved on. "Do you hear that Firekit!" She whispered with feigned excitement, before creeping closer to the edge of the undergrowth.
Peeking through she saw a family of two-leg, some big ones and some small ones alongside a few medium ones that didn't seem full grown but also didn't seem small enough to be children. They were scattered out around a fire; two were throwing something back and forth to one another.
It wasn't the sound of the twolegs that snapped Firekit out of his dreams, but the whispered voice of Fabledkit. It took him another moment for the rest of the voices to register, and somehow he felt both a twinge of excitement and a shiver of fear as he stepped up beside her, poking his head through the undergrowth as well. Everything was so new to him, and he had to spend a bit soaking everything in fully so he could properly brag about this adventure. After all, it wasn't every day that you got to see a twoleg from this close, or this many of them at that!
He sucked in a breath, trying to calm his rapid heartbeat, then cast a side glance to his so-called captain. "What's the plan, sir?" he asked, lowering his voice as much as he could, although it still wasn't at a level proper for the situation, although he didn't seem to realize that fact.
"It's ma'am Firekit." She responded with just enough pompous offense and a sniff to pull off a relatively good impression of a cat much older than herself. Really no other reason for it other than to put on a show, trying to keep that untouchable air about herself. "Now we watch them and see what they do." She added to finally address his question. "Know thy enemy and all that." The younger twoleg kits were coming in their direction, poking through the pushes rather quietly in the way introspective children did. As such Fabledkit didn't notice and in honestly had already forgotten them among the prospect of the larger bigger twolegs.
Firekit couldn't help but roll his eyes, but it seemed to be in a friendly way, as he smiled directly afterwards. Seeing as how they would probably be here for a while, he slunk down to lay in the bushes, completely unaware that his fiery orange pelt wasn't hidden in the least. He followed Fabledkit's gaze to the bigger twolegs, watching them for a few seconds before his mind started to wander out of boredom. Sitting still wasn't exactly a talent that Firekit possessed, and it didn't seem like he was going to learn it any time soon. Once more, he was lost in his fantasies of being hailed a hero, his tail thumping against the ground since the rest of the body wasn't allowed to move.
