Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Mercy, peace, and justice. Such pretty words, sighted as protection against the shadows that haunt even the brightest of clans. Those words held little weight though, easily drowned in the darkness that came with betrayal, cruelty, and hate. Despite this they were lofted and applied towards those that others saw as pillars of strength within each clan. Having only just gained the title of medicine cat and already Suspendedillusion was looked at in a better light than he had been in all his previously days among theses cats. Titles came with impressions and the gaunt tom couldn't claim to be fond on these new impressions others had of him without even knowing him.
So perhaps dealing with the deputy would be refreshing. A tom who was well known to be difficult at the best of times and might harbor secrets with just as must depth as Suspendedillusion himself did. He had asked Hystericplague to meet him and give him a tour of the best herb spots because he saw it as a courtesy. Not because he felt he needed such a walk through; still he supposed it would help him get a head start towards deciding the level of importance of each herb and what should be gathered first or prioritized.
For one as scrawny and distorted as Hystericplague, it came with no shock that other cats treated him with a bit of contempt, and it didn't seem to fully stop once he became the deputy. As a medicine cat, others could simply avoid him, as he holed himself up in the den with his experiments for most the day, only coming out for food or when the leader had need of him. Which, to his dismay, had been too many times, and now he was forever stuck with the job of cleaning up after Calamitystar. The promotion to deputy had been a shock to him, most of all, as he knew nothing about combat, or even the basics of hunting. He had been groomed and conditioned to the life of a medicine cat ever since he was a kit, and now he was thrust into an unknown world.
Of course, none of this stopped him from continuing with his experiments or hanging out in the medicine cat den, and he had been planning to go out and gather more herbs anyway to make up for the ones he was using, so when the new medicine cat had asked him to give a tour, he had agreed. Looking at the other tom, Hystericplague felt that there may have been an ulterior motive to this, but he was never one to actually care about that. So now, the hairless tom made his way to the medicine cat den, stifling a cough as best he could. Oh, what a pair these two would make. A hairless rat and a gaunt ghoul.
"Ah Hystericplague, just who I was waiting for." The medicine cat greeted as he peeked his head out and saw the other tom. He gave a polite smile before he turned and glanced back into the den before nodding to himself. He was sure Amberpaw was lingering about in camp somewhere and didn't worry to much about leaving things unattended, but that could simply be because Suspendillusion wasn't actually that most empathetic or sympathetic of toms in truth. Having filled this role more because past experiences lead him to it than anything else.
"Should we be off then?" He hummed placidly as he stepped from the den and to the ex-medicine cats side. He took him in from the corner of his eye and resisted the urge to wonder about his backstory. Having heard some of it from the cats in camp, and some from Amberpaw, but nothing from the tom himself. But no one could blame him for being curious.
Either Hystericplague completely ignored the other tom's curious glance, or he didn't actually notice, because all he gave in response was a slight nod. He didn't know that much about the new medicine cat, but he could already tell that Suspendedillusion was much simpler company than Calamitystar or Amberpaw, when the apprentice actually decided to grace him with his presence, that was. It had made teaching an extremely difficult task when his apprentice didn't even want to be in the same vicinity as him. If he were to get a new apprentice now, though, it would probably be Hystericplague doing the avoiding.
"Have you been able to actually teach Amberpaw anything?" he asked, turning to lead the way out of the camp. The question wasn't merely just to fill the silence, but he was actually curious on how the apprentice saw his new mentor. Rather, he was curious to know if he would be having to step in on occasion if there were to be an incident, or if the clan could actually reply on the meek apprentice. Hystericplague was never that bad when he was that age, but that wasn't saying much. The deputy was barely above apprentice age, himself, although he could certainly act like an elder.
Suspenedillusion case the deputy a curious look at the question but gave an absent hum in response before he expanded upon it. "I haven't really spoken much to Amberpaw as of yet. I have been acclimating and he was rather low on my list of priorities if I am being honest." He admitted, having a sneaking suspicion that Hystericplague would not judge him for his words. "It is on the list though, of-course." He hummed once again as they moved along, mind now wondering towards Amberpaw and how he should approach the apprentice. Seeing as now it would almost be a little awkward to speak to him seeing as Suspendedillusion had waiting so long to approach him.
"I suppose the question comes from a place of familiarity though," he made the assumption feeling rather confident in the words. "Is there some form of advice you can pass along to me?" He wondered.
The question prompted a small laugh from Hystericplague, although the sound rang rather empty. "I'm afraid that I still haven't quite figured him out yet, either. He could barely stand to be in the same den as me, let along long enough for a conversation. I once brought him out like this, and that didn't end up too great." In fact, it ended in the discovery of Amberpaw's sister's lost mate, and very little learning. He had barely spoken to Amberpaw since, actually. The deputy held back a sigh, remembering just how much trouble it was to meet the apprentice in the first place. It had taken him over a moon to trap Amberpaw into actually talking to him, if his memory served correct.
Shaking his mind free, he spoke up again, "I doubt the cliche 'just be yourself' is appropriate here. I can assure you, though, that if you're afraid that waiting so long is going to make it worse, I'm sure Amberpaw is doing his fair share of trying to avoid you."
