Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Ratstar, that's the border!" Poppypaw said with exuberance as she lead the SummerClan leader toward DayClan's territory. She'd only come here once before for her initial interview but the path was clear enough. There were not a whole lot of trees in the forest Clan, at least on this side of the territory, so all you had to do was follow the sun's path. Poppypaw was kind of stupid but she could at least keep track of North and South, East and West, "We should only be meeting a couple of Warriors, Fuzzyheart and Peachblush, so you don't need to worry about introductions."
That was going to be a problem. She wished that she had said her name was Poppymaw in the interview or something easy to confuse with Poppypaw. All that they had to do was call her by what they thought her name was and, so long as Ratstar was paying attention, he'd catch her in her lie. In fact, if they mentioned any details at all about the mission, she was going to be in trouble. A lot was at risk here since she brought Ratstar, but she just couldn't deny letting the leader escort her. It was an honor and she liked his company. It was also a really long, boring trip without him. Would he still let her go if he knew her "work study" was really a surrogacy? She may just be able to swing the story in her favor due to his inexperience with Clan culture... but would she really bet on that? If Fuzzyheart and Peachblush found out she was an apprentice, albeit one in the final moons of her training, they were bound to reject her. Poppypaw wasn't nervous by nature, but she was shivering a little bit as figures appeared in the distance.
TLDR: Poppypaw, a SummerClan apprentice, is coming to DayClan to be Fuzzyheart and Peachblush's surrogate. She is escorted by her leader, Ratstar. The problem? She has lied to every cat involved to get this far. All it takes is one simple statement and the jig is up.
"Ratstar?" Fuzzyheart asked in confusion as he saw Poppyheart walk alongside him. He knew Poppyheart was coming, but he supposed it made sense that she had someone walk with her, it was quite the trip. Fuzzyheart was a massive muscular tom with dark mahogany bengal fur and a single sea glass blue eye, the other was torn off and scarred completely at the socket. He definitely looked like he didn't belong in DayClan and was not from it as he had grown up in Primal Instinct, but moved around with his boyfriend, Peachblush. This being their newest and hopefully this time, permanent residence, "Thank-you for bringing Poppyheart here," Fuzzyheart said gratefully, but didn't dip his head towards the leader. It wasn't exactly his style, that and in his families culture there was no bowing to anyone.
"Fuzzyheart and Peachblush. Got it." Ratstar nodded curtly, following closely behind the cheerful apprentice as the pair approached the Dayclan border. Despite only having known Poppypaw for a short time, less than a moon actually, the new leader of Summerclan couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the thought of her upbeat attitude being missing from the clan, if only for a few moons. In any case, he had been told this mission was important, so he wasn't about to contest the she-cat's wishes if everything had already been arranged. Not to mention he was somewhat curious about Dayclan in particular; he had been told quite a lot about that clan in particular, and how their leader, Glowstar, was one of the longest-reigning leaders in the forest. He wanted to know what their warriors were like.
Whatever he was expecting, however, it definitely wasn't the massive tom that addressed him. The one-eyed leader nearly did a double-take at the freaking behemoth of a cat standing on the other side of the border; even compared to the nasty characters of the twolegplace, Fuzzyheart was probably twice the size of the biggest rogues he knew! The tabby was so mentally preoccupied by the unexpected size of the Dayclan warrior, that he nearly didn't catch the greeting at all. He blinked, suddenly remembering that this was a diplomatic trip. "I suppose ma reputation precedes me?" He inquired good-naturedly, surprised that the other clans were even aware that Summerclan had a new leader. "It wasn't any trouble at all, really. I jus' couldn't let the gal make the trek all alone."
His smiling face gave nothing away to Poppypaw. If Ratstar had noticed the different name, he hadn't said anything...yet.
Poppypaw wasn't sure how she missed it the first time that she had met him, but Fuzzyheart only had one eye, just like Ratstar. The DayClan tom was a lot more muscular and imposing than the kind-hearted SummerClan leader, sure, but they were both brown toms. She was about to make some comment like 'What are the odds?' when Fuzzyheart dropped her false name. Her half-tail lowered slightly and was still, very unlike her, but she keep her face just even enough to pass as normal. She didn't look to Ratstar right away but let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding when he replied. If he'd picked up on it, he didn't seem like he was going to say anything. Good. All hope wasn't lost. "Yes, Ratstar is quite the gentleman," Poppypaw purred, very nearly cutting her leader off, "Thank you very much for this opportunity."
Peachblush bowed his head to the newcomers. "No need to thank us," he said. "If anything, we should be the ones thanking you." He examined their appearances more thoroughly; Ratstar looked essentially the same as how Peachblush had envisioned he'd looked. Poppyheart, however, looked a little...youthful, Peachblush settled on. She didn't outright look like a child, but she didn't seem like a full-grown warrior, either. ...Hmm.
Once the niceties were out of the way, it was very hard to stop himself from thinking so this is the she-cat my boyfriend's going to...get to know, huh. He wondered if that particular thought had crossed anyone else's mind - or if the thought that gosh Poppyheart looks a little young to be getting pregnant had popped up. There had been a brief moment of tension in Poppyheart's form, but her face had betrayed nothing. If Ratstar had noticed anything unusual, he hadn't let it slip either. Fuzzyheart, bless him, probably wouldn't have noticed if Poppyheart looked a hundred years old. Was Peachblush going to have to be the one to bring it up, then...?
...Except he didn't want to. He wanted those kits, dammit! He'd lost almost everything in his life twice-over - he couldn't just give up something he so desperately wanted again. If Poppyheart was harbouring some awful secret about her identity, then Peachblush would just have to ignore it until it actually became a problem.
By Oreostar's left pinky toe, I am an awful person.
He opted to clear his throat instead. "So, anyone want a snack?"
"Oh, I'm starving! We forgot to ask our medicine cat for travel herbs before we left." Poppypaw was happy for the distraction although it did mean Ratstar would have to stick around a little bit longer. It was true that she didn't quite want her leader to leave her with these strange toms she barely knew. She had grown close to him, especially given the journey they had just taken to get here, and she knew he'd have her back if anything bad happened. Keeping him around, though, drastically raised the stakes of her ruse being figured out and, as much as it pained her, she had to do something about that, "Unless you want to get a head-start on the way back to SummerClan, Ratstar? I know it's a pretty long journey so you probably don't want to waste time hunting here."
There, that should do it. Poppypaw made sure to look him right in the eye with her bondi blues and did her best to be as cute as possible. A head tilt, her chest puffed out just a little bit. She was wearing a crown made almost entirely of hollyhock, a few poppies and just a little bit of catnip she grew secretly and separate from SummerClan's main stores. The reds of the flowers right up against her eyes made the she-cat's gaze especially intense and that faint catnip beneath it made her all the more appealing. Poppypaw wasn't the cute little apprentice she had been a few moons ago but she still managed to look adorable. She hoped that this would let her get her way. She didn’t think that it could backfire.
Fuzzyheart looked back at Ratstar to see if he was just going to leave. That was a long trip to just go back home now, but hey he wasn't going to argue with the guy, especially not a leader.
"Yeah, I'm all for having snacks," Fuzzyheart said, definitely not noticing at all that this she-cat was young, probably because that was a key trait for females in his bloodline, they always looked younger than they were, while the toms seemed to mature faster.
(I am totally not late, I swear. Some space-time shenanigans teleported me two weeks into the future. :3)
"Actually, I don't mind at all," Ratstar piped up cheerfully. "I'd love to grab a snack before I get goin'. Not to mention that I've been dying to see what Dayclan's like; I've heard so much about ya folks, and I probably won't get the chance again until ya return 'er." After getting over the initial shock that was Fuzzyheart, the leader found himself more intrigued than ever by the strange clan. Between Fuzzyheart and Peachblush alone, it appeared that there were a wide variety of interesting characters here, and he'd love to learn more about the culture. "And if y'all really don't mind...I was actually interested in meetin' your leader: Glowstar, I believe? I've heard that she's one of the longest-leadin' leaders in the whole clans, and I'd love the chance to learn from 'er."
He paused, realizing that he was getting ahead of himself again, and glanced down at Poppypaw. "You wouldn't mind me joinin' ya for a little longer, would ya?"
Poppypaw smiled and nodded but was totally panicking. Her short tail was wagging wildly from side to side like a propeller just before take off. Oh no, no, no. Ratstar could not meet Glowstar, not now, when he had a chance to put an end to this. He would definitely ask about the work study and what it would be like for his favorite SummerClan apprentice when the DayClan leader really knew nothing about it. In fact, Poppypaw wasn't so sure that Fuzzyheart and Peachblush had told her the truth about what their intention was, either. Her heart beat picked up and a sharp nose may be able to sense her anxiety, "Oh, are you sure it's not too much trouble? I would love to spend more time with you, but if you are here much later you will be traveling at night, it could be dangerous! But I would be so happy if you stuck around a little more! But it'll be a long day for you!!!"
"Yeah, Poppyheart's right, maybe it's better if you just head off, it is a long walk," Fuzzyheart agreed, but also not helping the situation by calling her Poppyheart.
