Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Spitting with rage, the fluffy she-cat drew herself up to her full height and bared her teeth at the other warrior. "I saw you take that prey! That was for the kits, now what are they going to eat?!"
"I don't know," he retorted, icy eyes narrow, "maybe they'll find someone else to hunt for them. They're not my kits."
It was early in the night and already the darkness had settled over the territory outside the cave. The clan hadn't brought back much prey today, and yet Shatteredshine had caught Hiddenvein taking one of the last pieces of prey from the measly pile in the center of camp.
Zephyrglade poked a claw into Hiddenvein’s chest, “That piece of prey could have fed three kits, but it only fed one of you.” He said accusingly, but backed off, his blue eyes flashing a coppery tone in the last glint of sunlight before it set. “You’re going to get old at some point Hiddenvein and unless your retirement plan is being a kittypet you’re going to eventually need to rely on SwiftClan. Hopefully when your time comes some cat won’t eat the last piece of prey and say that you’re not their grandpa.”
This was his first week in SwiftClan, but he was already getting the vibe that cats in SwiftClan were having a hard time gripping the warrior code. Usually he was patient, but the guy literally stole food from kits mouths. Zephyrglade was an incredibly tall tom towering above cats that were considered at the taller end of the height spectrum. A genetic he got from his father. The blue grey tom looked back out at the swamp, he was going to have to get more prey and quick, it wasn’t like the kits would be up much longer.
"Those kits barely eat anything," he replied contemptuously, "they'll find something else. Shouldn't their families be looking after them, anyway? That was my catch from earlier. I was kind enough to drop it off for everyone, and nobody took it, so when I was hungry I did. What's the big deal?" He squared up to meet Zephyrglade's eye, though the height difference was immediately obvious. Even at his full height, the tom was average at best, perhaps even a bit shorter. He was built squarely, and if he had proper conditioning he might be muscular and strong, but the life of a rogue had left him lean.
"When I'm old I'll find my own prey most days as my father did and his before him. When I don't find anything, if there isn't extra prey, I won't eat." He shrugged. "Not every cat needs a meal every day. You eat what you can catch."
Wildrain heard the commotion from inside the nursery. Curious as to what was going on, she managed to slip from her sleeping babies and out into the main cave area just in time to hear Hiddenvein's response to Zephryglade's. She didn't know too much about clan life or what the warrior code even was but it seemed that was the biggest issue with this new clan. Most of the previous rogues and loners didn't quite understand the importance of putting the clan first. Even Wildrain, herself, was struggling with adjusting to a new lifestyle she was unfamiliar with. However, she stayed out of it for now. Sitting at the nursery entrance with a bored expression. While change was difficult for everyone, it was silly to get all worked up about. Yes, Wildrain was hungry but there was little amount of prey and she always fed her kits first. However, she could understand how scarce food can drive cats to near insanity but breaking out in a fight in the middle of camp wasnt going to solve the issue. But she didn't want to get involved just yet. If she had to, she would step in. She was more curious about what Zephryglade was going to do if Hiddenvein continued to argue with him. Also, where was Chimerastar in all of this? Would he break up the fight or let it happen?
He let out a sigh, which he typically didn't do, "I wanted to make this a lone trip, but I think this is the kind of thing you need to experience to understand. Come with me. I get that it makes way more sense to just eat what you catch and if you're feeling generous to give your clanmates some of your earning. When I was a pirate we did the same thing, but when you're in a clan that lifestyle doesn't translate as soundly as it would for your dad and your dads dad and your dads dads dad. Try supporting me just this one? I mean if you don't, you can stay here, but Shatteredshine looks intent on screaming at you the rest of the time so I kind of feel my offers better."
He patted the tom on the shoulder with his tail as he slipped past Hiddenvein and towards the swamp before looking over his shoulder to see if Hiddenvein was coming. He caught sight of Wildrain and quickly shifted his gaze to look the other way.
Wildrain caught Zephryglade's eye just before he quickly looked away. What was that about? she wondered, wrinkling her nose and knitting her brows. Her intense gray eyes flashed toward Hiddenvein. She wondered if the tom would take the offer and was actually surprised Zephryglade wanted to help him.
Hiddenvein stiffened, watching Zephyrglade go. "Why should I? I already did my hunting for the day," he challenged. Scowling, he turned to stalk toward the warrior's den...
...only to run straight into Shatteredshine, who clearly had not taken his refusal well. The fluffy she-cat wasn't done arguing with him either, but that could wait for now. She gave him a hard shove after the warrior and raised one paw, hitting him hard over the year. "Go before I get Wildrain and we drag you out of here ourselves. Then you won't be coming back at all," she hissed.
Glaring around the camp at all of them, the sulking tom rose and crept after Zephrglade.
Wildrain perked her ears when she heard her name. Was she considered a weapon now? She couldnt help but twitch her whiskers in amusement. The black she-cat padded up to stand beside Shatteredshine, "I'm surprised that worked." There was a laugh hidden in her voice.
(To bring Shatteredshine and Wildrain along on the adventure I’m thinking that Zephyr and Hidden get a little ways out when a snake strikes and the she-cats come to help them out?)
Zephyrglade led Hiddenvein out towards a large puddle of mud, but began scratching near the puddle, “We need to dig up any insects we can find, it’s cold out, but this ground is wet enough for us to find something. We can use the insects as bait for fish. It’s not like we’ll have enormous success, but something will bite.”
"Toms are all giant kits on the inside," Shatteredshine told her, anger quickly fading as she adopted a loopy grin. "Trust me, I should know! Even the grumpiest, most serious ones are just big ol' drama queens."
"Insects?" Hiddenvein stared at the mud in disdain, highly skeptical. "I don't want to eat insects and nobody else does either." He wasn't sure about this whole bait idea, and it seemed like a complete waste of time.
Wildrain twitched her whiskers in amusement. "Of course they are. I would know first paw. The father of my kits was so much of a kit himself, he couldnt handle raising a litter of his own."
The young warrior shook her head, whiskers twitching in mirth. "Well, he should have thought of that before you decided to have kits! Honestly, I don't know how toms survive on their own."
She shrugged, "Only Starclan knows...Starclan. Thats the religion we follow, right?" She was still trying to get used to this new lifestyle and religions. She would feel pretty embarrassed if it wasnt Starclan.
