Cypressblaze hadn't really been feeling it at all since she had received her Warrior name. Maplestar had been distant ever since her promotion to leader, and she understood why, but even Oakstorm had been acting like a stranger these days. Sneaking around during the day, skipping his patrols, he was worse now than he ever was as an apprentice. She'd picked up his slack and covered nearly every absence. In fact, the young she-cat had gotten so good at predicting when he was going to bail that most of the time no one knew that she wasn't part of the patrol to begin with. And what had she gained from it all? A severe lack of sleep, a bad attitude and not even one thank you from her brother.
The Moon was a little more than half empty tonight. She observed it longingly, wishing she could hide half her face sometimes, too. Everyone knew when she was happy or sad, moody or upbeat. She hardly ever complained but she knew she had a tone. The truth was that the torbie she-cat was lonely. She had been lonely ever since she moved out of the nursery all of those moons ago. It seemed the only cat on her side these days was herself. She felt a chilly breeze whip through her pelt and shuddered slightly, "Oh, and you too, Moon Goddess." She muttered before getting to her paws and padding toward her next patrol's meeting place. Both she and Oakstorm had been assigned to this patrol along with one other she-cat, she couldn't remember who, she just hoped they would get along since odds were it would just be the two of them.

She had noticed. There was little way the misdeeds had gone unnoticed from her dark gaze. The black and white she-cat was almost relieved when the pair was assigned a patrol with her. Though she had been watching for some time. And sure enough, Oakstorm was a no show. A small click of her tongue as she finally stood up out of her hiding place. "Selene, let me get to the bottom of this." Abaddon's lips moved in silent prayer before approaching the other she-cat. Cypressblaze. She didn't know much about the other. Though she certainly didn't show it, the other warrior walking tall and with confidence. "Cypressblaze, you're early for our patrol." Her voice was low, used to commanding others with an edge she had trouble letting go of.
"I could say the same to you." So it was Abaddon, huh? She was a new cat to the Clan which meant that Cypressblaze had a natural distrust toward her. She herself was pureblood MoonClan and proud enough of it to think a little less of cats who were not. That didn't mean she treated them differently, though, it just took her longer to open up to them. Cypressblaze often had to remind herself that any cat who followed Selene was an equal to herself before the Moon Goddess. This mostly black she-cat had done nothing but prove her loyalty so far, even showing up early to a patrol that her full-blood brother had decided to skip. The torbie let out a sigh, meant toward herself but easy to misinterpret, "This is just a border patrol so it should be pretty quick. We may as well start now since I'm sure Oakstorm won't show."

It was true. Abaddon wasn't of any blood, it never bothered her. If they had low expectations of her because if it, she wasn't afraid to crush them. She was there to scout for her brother and to establish herself. Which was why she took on all these responsibilities. Abby had no way of knowing how connected each she-cat was to their brother. For now, the mostly black she-cat offered the other a brief smile. Even she could tell Cypressblaze wasn't going to open up to her easily. It was simpler to just play her hand now. "True, especially considering he hasn't for the last few patrols." She walked by Cypress and through the entrance of the camp, ushering her along with a sweep of her tail.
Cypressblaze didn't appreciate Abaddon's comment on her brother's attendance. It was one of those things where she could say something about it because he was her kin, but nobody else. Still, the MoonClan she-cat kept the thought to herself and did not call the other she-cat out on it. It's not like she knew it was offensive. She came from a very different world, after all, and Cypressblaze did want her to feel a little welcome. The Moon Goddess would want that anyway, right?
"... Anyway... We will be patrolling the SunClan border mostly, maybe DayClan too." Cypressblaze meowed, flicking her tail-tip, "We'd best get going." She tried her best to seem friendly, but her tone was a little terse, her demeanor on the stiff-side.
(OOC: I don't know what Clans border MoonClan BUT I know for sure one of them is SunClan so... yeah. xD)

(according to the map, moonclan actually borders dayclan and nightclan but you know, we can ignore canon)
It wasn't like Abaddon wasn't sometimes the same way. She'd rather not hear of Levee's faults from someone other than her. But, if his actions were causing a negative effect on the clan, she'd rather know then not. Still, she could tell she offended the other she-cat. Guess it can't always be so easy. "Very well." Abaddon would follow for now, but she wasn't gonna let that topic drop so easily.
( bah screw it who cares about canon I don't; also I'm thinking a fox or a badger to spice this up? you feel me? )
The two stood there for an awkward few seconds before Cypressblaze decided to take take the lead. She wasn't sure what she was waiting on honestly, she would be Abaddon's superior based on her familiarity with the territory alone. It would have been weird if she hadn't lead the patrol. Cypressblaze sent a prayer to Selene to clear her foggy mind and made her way toward the moor lands.
It wasn't a part of the territory that she liked to visit due to its lack of trees and general cover. It had a pretty well established rabbit colony, but, with snow on the ground, it was much harder to catch them. She remembered watching Oakstorm sink into the snow when he gave chase one time, his target skipping across the snow as if it were made of air, barely even leaving a footprint.
"So... what do you think of MoonClan so far? Settling in well?" Cypressblaze was okay with silence, too, but she felt that she at least needed to make an effort to get to know her new clanmate.

(i certainly don't. and ooh nice. I'm in)
There was some finality to Cypressblaze's decision to take the lead. For now, Abaddon followed, letting the snow dull out the sharp black of her long coat. It was true, she wasn't as familiar as Cypress, but she was quickly picking things up. Playing the role of a new passionate warrior by night and a spy by day. The further they went, the deeper it got, the more effort it took to push her way through. The silence beside the crunching under their paws was fine, it let her contemplate just how she was to go about this. And she tended to fall on the quiet side. How was Moonclan? Besides being a prime place for their plan to unfold, she didn't have any thoughts on the place. "It's nice." She lied, "A good cut of forest, cats seem alright." She hadn't really talked to anyone, so she jumped to the pros he could come with. Even if they were cold.
That was hardly much of an answer. Abaddon may have well has stayed silent. Cypressblaze decided to push the conversation further, maybe learn a thing or two about this rogue that had yet to be discovered, "MoonClan has always been my home. I'd like to agree that this forest is the more valuable than all other Clans but I've nothing to compare to it. You surely seem traveled, though." The torbie she-cat came to an abrupt halt. Her fur was smooth and appeared calm, but her eyes were stormy as she leveled with Abaddon. Cypressblaze still couldn't get a read on this she-cat but she was determined to find out more about her, "You know all there is to know about me, but I know nothing of you. What really brought you to MoonClan?"

It's true. A fairly lame answer. Not that Abaddon was ever a social butterfly. She just watched enough to pick up on a few things. Nothing enough to hold a breezy conversation with someone. "It's nice. A good balance between everything a forest needs." Just enough water, just enough caves and craggy spots. It was a quintessential forest, hard to mess up. The perfect place for Levee's plan.
The black and white she-cat tilted her head, slowly stopping as Cypressblaze faced her. Unreadable. She naturally mimicked, relaxed as things became more interesting to her. "That's it? You were born and raised here and have a brother you cover for? I figured there was a little more going on." She spoke so confidently, not a shred of insulting on her tongue. Just like it was obvious. What she knew. "I'm afraid I'm not very exciting either then. Just a wanderer in love with the night sky who thought it was about time to settle down." It was only so true. She carried a presence like a dictator, one that commanded attention.
Abaddon continued to be a mystery, it seemed. Her answers were always empty and gave away nothing. It was infuriating to Cypressblaze but at this point she knew the only ay this patrol was going to go even a little smoothly was if she let it go. Which she did fairly well. This she-cat struggled to control her emotions day-to-day but she could always force herself to be calm when situations necessitated it.
"I would have thought Selene would have guided you, although perhaps the misnomer you used is one and the same." Cypressblaze replied with a dismissive wave of her tail, marking that part of the conversation as done. They were nearing the border anyways and needed to focus on the task at hand. The torbie she-cat tasted the air and approached the first scent marker when she noticed something... off. A scent she didn't recognize, not a cat, though, "Do you recognize this scent?"
--- (ooc: let's go with a fox. Feel free to power play it when it attacks!)
Post by strawberrycupid on Mar 17, 2020 20:39:59 GMT -5
(perfect. and yay, I get to powerplay for once when most of my characters are wimps xD)
Abaddon smirked as Cypressblaze became more annoyed with her. Just a touch, it reminded her of Levee. "Who really knows. Though I've certainly felt Selene guiding me since coming here." Like a light at the end of the tunnel. That was what Abaddon pictured. With a swish of her feathery tail, the pair kept walking and she fell silent. Patrols were horribly boring. She began to zone out, thinking of her next move when that smell hit her. Fox. It was so clear, so obvious. And here the tabby was not recognizing it. "Maybe your existence has been as boring as you've said. That's a fox." She needed to chase it out of here, at worst. "Either stand on your guard or climb a tree, you'll be safe up there. But keep your eyes on me, and if I fall, that's when you can run for help." Holding confidence like a scythe, the reaper waited, pressing her back against one of the trees as the bushes seemed to rustle all at once around them.
Oh, she should have known it was a fox. The scent seemed familiar to her now that Abaddon had named it. A fox hadn't been found in MoonClan territory since very early in her apprentice days and only then had she gotten a stale whiff of it. Then the rest of the black-and-white she-cat's words began to weigh in on her. A boring existence? Hide while this other cat fought a MoonClan battle? It was suicide to fight a fox alone and dumb to do it with just two cats. Abaddon must be one hell of a fighter or a complete idiot. Cypressblaze theorized it was the later.
"We are a patrol. A team. Don't think just because I didn't recognize the scent right away doesn't mean I can't fight," She hissed, taking a step forward to show that she was the one leading this patrol. The step was shaky, "The smart thing to do would be to return to camp and get a full battle patrol to investigate this. It could just be passing through ---" She wasn't speaking all that loudly, but perhaps she had underestimated a fox's hearing. Before she was able to finish the sentence, the red-furred creature poked its head out from some undergrowth and charge straight for the two MoonClan she-cats.
Post by strawberrycupid on Mar 23, 2020 14:56:14 GMT -5
"True. Too early for that assumption. I apologize." Abaddon let her have that, no matter how clearly she was shaking. To her, it was a chance at life, to get away. But if this was Cypress' choice, she could do little to stop it. Especially when the smell got stronger, when the pointed features poked their way out of the brush. "Smart? Yes. But fun? No." Cats were so boring, their hearts were too clear to her. Every other living creature was far more interesting, even as the narrowed yellow eyes of the fox told her it was ready. And desperate.
Abaddon was a little bigger than the average cat, though not one to reveal she was the one who gave into Selene's more different tastes. Sacrifices of mice and rabbits must have gotten boring, and the stars always appeared to twinkle a little more after a heartier meal. And it let her utilize her little hobby more. The fox charged, and so did she. Nothing was practiced, there was no routine. It's what made it so much fun. No stranger with death, the demon danced. Avoiding the snapping jaws and sharp claws easily, barely, she slammed into the fox. If wisps of black fur were whipped off, there was more red fur as she showed the fox no mercy. It flailed when bit, screamed as Abby did not relent. Not one bit, not till it got the message.
"Abaddon!" Cypressblaze screamed as the other she-cat belted after the without even a second of hesitation. The torbie she-cat stood stock-still for a few moments as she processed the scene. Fun? Did this crazy ex-rogue really find this fight... fun? Cypressblaze was much too cautious to ever find an event that risked her life worth, well, the risk. If she could avoid it, she would, it she could plan ahead, expect a formal outline. But she was noble, loyal. She would never abandon a clanmate, even one that she didn't like, perhaps because she herself feared being abandoned more than almost anything else. So, when the option was run or assist, Abaddon had made that decision for the both of them.
Cypressblaze threw herself into the fray with a battle cry that wasn't quite as impressive as Abby's but just as fearsome. She wasn't known for her fighting prowess but she could keep up with the best of them. She knew where to hit, where to scratch, where to bite. She'd never fought a foe as big as this one but at least the fox seemed preoccupied with Abaddon and that gave her a few seconds advantage. She aimed right for the throat, biting down as hard as she could, she could feel the fox's heart beat in her maw and it made her feel sick to her stomach when she realized how strong it was. The torbie she-cat dug her claws into the creatures shoulders and scrambled to find purchase for her hind legs, although mostly they just dangled.
The fox yelped and shook itself, realizing it may have underestimated its prey, but it was not about to give up. It bucked and howled in an attempt to free itself from its adversaries and Cypressblaze screamed as she lost her grip and was thrown against a tree, although she took a chunk of the fox's throat with her.

She needed to make that first push, Cypress never would on her own. The feeling of the fox twisting underneath her was cathartic, writhing in the pain she gave it. The black and white she-cat bit down on the back of the fox's neck hard, hard enough to let her pull it up and give Cypress the opportunity to go for it. And she did! Abaddon wasn't sure what she would have done if she hadn't, probably chased the fox off. Feeling it's neck try to whip around, the brief heart beats, the blood beginning to dribble out of her mouth, she caught Cypress getting away with a yank. Letting go herself, it became clear they tore an artery. The red of the blood covered everything. Seeping into the grass and fur of it and Abby, the fox flung her off. In it's final surge of energy, it ran away.
The crimson trail it left was deep, Abaddon's white paws now dyed red. Most of it couldn't be seen because of her dark fur, but the smell was obvious. Sharp and coppery, she licked her lips, letting herself sink into the flavor a bit before coming back out. Standing tall, the massacre around them becoming clearer, she tilted her head. "Not bad. Maybe you have something in you." It was almost proud, almost praising. She was too monotone for it to sound really genuine. "I'm still curious though. Cypressblaze, where is your brother?"
Cypressblaze coughed, the wind knocked out of her, and struggled back to her feet. She was surprised to find herself mostly unharmed outside of general soreness in her shoulders. She was absolutely covered in blood, though, and crimson cloaked the front half of her body and part of her underbelly, so much so that she could be mistaken for a ginger tabby from the right angle. She spat gore and tufts of red fur immediately, very nearly retching, but she managed to hold it together. She was not going to let Abaddon see her in a weakened state, she wouldn't allow it.
"Are you---" She began to ask if the black-and-white she-cat was OK but she looked up and saw her standing there casually and cut herself off. She looked like a true Warrior, bloodied but standing tall, proud. Like she did this every day. Who knows, maybe she did, Cypressblaze still did not know anything about her. Her pelt fluffed up at the mention of Oakstorm, the timing was almost like Abaddon was accusing him of something, she just didn't know what, "Who knows and, besides, it's none of your business. With the way you attacked that fox you hardly even needed me. Do you have any idea how reckless that was!? We could have both died!"

Abaddon felt her heart slow, the once sweet adrenaline now slowly getting diluted. Her ears stopped rushing with blood, eyes now casting a glance towards Cypressblaze. One similar to staring at an oncoming storm. Calm yet terrifying. "It's Selene's business, no? I'm sure she is just as curious about her once disciple as I am." She really wasn't making it easy for her, Abby almost would have appreciated how much she wasn't letting herself get pushed over if it didn't keep getting in her way. "And yeah, I know. I gave you the opportunity to guarantee your life, but you stayed right here." In a world where everything was so calculated, so obvious to the trained eye, a little recklessness was needed. Like releasing the pressure from an oxygen tank.
"I'll never abandon a clanmate, even if she's the biggest mouse-brain I've ever met!" Cypressblaze was getting a bit too fiery for her own liking and quieted herself down quickly. She did not often raise her voice, to her yelling was left for those with low intellect, and she hated that she had let Abaddon get under her skin enough to pull that out of her. It didn't help that she felt disgusting, all covered and gore and such, her own discomfort was fogging her brain.
"Anyway... we had better go report to Mapl-- I mean Leviathan. Let him know that a fox was on the territory and to increase patrols here. But first you and I need to get cleaned up, so let's go to the waterfall." Cypressblaze did not give Abaddon any time to respond before she started padding toward the NightClan border, her tail in the air. She was seething but doing her best to keep calm. The nerve Abaddon had!
