Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Seriously, what did WinterClan see in her? She barely understood their ways, what made them think that she could teach an apprentice? There was a single question that nagged at her the most--always buzzing at the back of her mind. Why did they trust her? Maybe they didn't. Maybe they had run out of good soldiers to mentor their apprentices. Maybe she was nothing but an afterthought.
Come on, get yourself together. She shook out her fur. Snowflakes fell gently from the clouds, catching themselves in her thick grayish pelt. Her paws shuffled nervously. What was she suppose to do? She was ungodly unprepared for this. You can do this. She definitely didn't believe herself.
After standing in the same spot for a few more minutes, Camellia finally willed herself to move. She would go get Aurorapaw. They would do . . . something--she wasn't quite sure what they would do yet. Focusing on her pawsteps, she inched closer and closer to the student's den. She didn't want to wake them, it was still early after all. Maybe she had too. Most did get up bright and early. She paused. Nope. This was a terrible idea.

Polarpaw became Polarblast. Stormsurge had looked so proud of her chosen son. Her favorite. Aurorapaw hadn't been promoted though, instead she'd been given a new mentor. It wasn't her fault but her mother had just shaken her head in evident disappointment. That hadn't hurt as much as it once had, much to Aurorapaw's relief.
Now she was waiting to be summoned by Camellia, who she'd honestly never met before. Would she prove a good mentor? Would Aurorapaw like her? The young cat knew that didn't truly matter, as long as she learned what she needed to learn, but it would be nice to bond with someone. To go on without needing the attention of her mother.
The morning was new but Aurorapaw had been awake since it was still dark out, grooming herself carefully and then trying not to make a lot of noise as she paced around her nest. The second she thought she maybe heard footsteps the small cat slid out of the den, coming face-to-face with a cat who must be her new mentor. Aurorapaw didn't speak, what would she say?
Camellia stopped entirely for a moment, distracted with the apprentice before her. She had realized she never got a good look at Aurorapaw before. Of course she had seen her, but she had never really taken her in. Would this be a bad time to do so now? She stared for a moment, unsure of what to do. Should she start talking? The silence dragged on, awkwardness crackling in the air around them.
“Uhm—hello.” She started, trying to compose herself. She straightened. “I’m Camellia—I mean—of course you know that. Uh. . . Nice to formally meet you?” Her paws shuffled with nervous energy. She was already screwing it all up!

Aurorapaw was, honestly, surprised by her mentor. She'd been raised rather kept away from her clan, the warriors she knew were her mother and father. Both of whom were incredibly confident and respected. Camellia seemed nervous. That, in a weird was, was encouraging for the apprentice. Maybe this wouldn't be like her relationship with her mother. She brightened a bit, tail flicking in a friendly manner, "hi Camellia, it's nice to meet you."
She fumbled for a moment, totally lost for a second. “I—well—hello.” She stopped for a few awkward seconds, unsure of what to do. “We don’t have to start training today, if you don’t want to, so maybe we can just—try to get to know each other?” She offered, taking a few steps back as if leaving. But she didn’t. “Unless . . . of course, you do want to train. Sorry, i’m not very good at this.”

The apprentice didn't particularly care about their agenda for the day, she just wanted to be away from her wreck of a family. So she shrugged and gave a nonchalant shrug, "I don't mind what we do, I'm happy with either." And she also didn't feel this was a decision for her to make. Shouldn't her mentor decide their activity for the day? Aurorapaw wasn't sure if this was some kind of test or not.
“Oh—Okay . . . Okay!” She panicked, mentally floundering. She really needed to get herself together. “Okay. How about you just . . . Follow me?” She suggested, turning tail and making her way out of camp. The snow stung her paw pads but she barely paid any mind. Actually, her mind was starting to slip. The things around her became blurry, almost a figment of her imagination. She fought against the feeling, though. She would not mess this up for Aurorapaw.
Finally, she stopped walking, checking behind her to see if Aurorapaw had followed. “Uhm—how about we just . . . Wander? We can get to know each other . . . Or maybe do some hunting.”

Aurorapaw followed obediently, silent as they walked. She'd been raised to be quiet unless addressed, be a good student and become a great warrior. Aurorapaw, despite her dislike of her mother, appreciated that particular lesson. So she didn't speak again until her mentor did, answering promptly, "wandering sounds nice, and I'd love to try and catch something if given the opportunity." The small student padded forward to be beside her mentor, trying to make her feel more comfortable, "am I your first student? I can't remember if you'd mentored anyone else."
