Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Creampaw had been tired and sore the first week, working around the clock in camp performing more apprentice duties than likely any apprentice combined. After all there was nothing else to do when she was grounded in camp except to keep working. Now though, nothing ached, her endurance had caught up with her and it was just work as normal. It did feel humiliating at first, a moon ago her mom had been leader and now she was banished, it had felt like everyone pitied her and now that she was being punished it at first felt like everyone was looking at her to be the next Soaringstar.
Lately though she enjoyed being around Flamingsoul, especially after the flood. When Flamingsoul changed her name in a ceremony that was about when things only got better. She felt closer to Flamingsoul and looked to her as a mom. Her punishment was almost over and she was looking around Flamingsoul in the hopes of maybe giving her the puppy dog eyes and getting out early, she couldn't wait to start hunting again.
Flamingstar was organizing a patrol to check the borders, unbeknownst to her that Creampaw had been searching for her. The ginger she-cat knew Creampaw's punishment was coming to an end but a strange part of Flamingstar wanted to keep the apprentice as her assistant for the simple fact that she actually enjoyed having her around. She feared that if Creampaw went back to her duties, the apprentice wouldn't need Flamingstar anymore. That the bond that they had built would no longer exist.
“Flamingstar,” Creampaw called out to her, for once calling her by her name, she even dipped her head to her. She was pulling off all the stops, “Guess whaaaat? It’s almost time for me to be able to leave camp again! I can’t wait! Soooo maybe you could let me out early?” She let out a gasp, “WE should go on a patrol together. You can assess my skills, see if I’m worthy of being made a warrior.”
She poked Flamingstar repeatedly, “C’mon, c’moooon, please? Pretty pretty please? PLEEEEEASE. Flamingstar, I want this, I really really want this,” She was whining relentlessly in the hopes of getting her way and likely would never outgrow that.
Flamingstar turned to look at the anxious apprentice. She couldn't help the small smile that crept onto her face despite the ache of allowing Creampaw off of her punishment. The ginger warrior was surprised that the apprentice wanted to go out on a patrol with her and asked for her to assess Creampaw's progress. Although, Creampaw hadn't been able to really practice being confined into camp but she was much older than the rest of the apprentices. Perhaps it was time for her to grow up. The thought made Flamingstar feel a sadness in her heart. She didn't want Creampaw to get older. She was her little cream puff but this seemed to be something she really wanted. She supposed Creampaw deserved this much. "Alright, alright. I'll take you out and see what you can do." For the first time, Flamingstar's smile was actually genuine and bright.
"Yes!" Creampaw cheered with a leap into the air and almost seemed to float back down, lighter and softer this time onto her toes, "I can't wait to be a warrior, I'll be the most incredible warrior the world has ever seen! With my super speed, adorable looks and genetically altered body I just know I can rise above the rest and be that warrior at the gathering where people are like, whoa what clan is she from? And I'll be like, NightClan, the best clan! People will wish they had a mom who kidnapped them into NightClan like I did when they see how cool we are!" She said with a few squeaks in her words, it seemed like her voice still cracked at just how high it could peak to.
Flamingstar's turquoise eyes gleamed with amusement at the exited apprentice. "Well, let's go, then" she mewed, turning to lead the way out of camp with the hyped up apprentice following her. "We will go to the training meadow, first."
"O-Kayyy," Creampaw said with disappointment feeling that the training meadows were for baby level apprentices. She could understand why though, she hadn't been able to practice combat or hunting for a whole moon. That and ever since realizing that Soaringbird hadn't been her biological mom she was able to look back at things and realize she was a bit different always. Her golden pelt made it hard to fight with other NightClan apprentices because they could blend in with their surroundings. She didn't have their same attitude and by nature seemed more cheery and loud despite the reserved and mysterious nature of most NightClan cats. At first that realization had begun to eat at her heart, but spending so much time with Flamingstar made her more certain than she did last moon that she belonged here. It was hard to imagine what her life would have been like if Turbulentseas encouraged her to follow her heart and she'd have left for DayClan. She would have missed out on spending time with her siblings and befriending Turbulentseas and Flamingstar and missed the food and culture of NightClan. She felt more sure than she'd ever been in herself walking over to training meadow.
Flamingstar led the way to the training meadow, her chin high. When they arrived at the meadow, she walked the apprentice to the middle. "Wait here. I will be right back." Without giving Creampaw a chance to respond, Flamingstar turned and disappeared back into the forest.
Creampaw lifted a paw to follow, but watched as Flamingstar vanished. She placed her paw back down and sucked in a breath of air, this was already hard. She sat down in training fields waiting for her to come back. Ever since the day she was caught and she tried disappearing on Flamingstar she hadn't been out of Flamingstar's sight since. Always making sure she stayed in the area Flamingstar expected her to be in or was in her sight, she had felt guilty watching Flamingstar's desperate reaction to find her and didn't want to do the same thing to her again. Still she was already getting bored and was itching to do something like maybe a few warmup exercises to prep herself while Flamingstar was gone.
Flamingstar watched Creampaw quietly from the edge of the forest. She had expected Creampaw to try and escape but was relieved to see that the apprentice hadn't moved. Did this mean she finally won Creampaw over at last? Flamingstar grinned, it was time for their training to begin. Creampaw had her back turned to Flamingstar so the Nightclan leader snuck forward, as silent as a shadow. When she was close enough, she launched at Creampaw.
Creampaw used the cats momentum and rolled on impact forcing the cat to roll with her and on instinct tucked her forearms underneath herself. But when she felt the ground underneath her paws she forced herself to stand and turn, backing up for distance to see who had launched at her. Really this was thanks to Flamingstar having chased her, she had remember the way she grabbed her forearms and how easy that was for her to hold onto her. But she also remembered that when they rolled together that it was harder for either to do damage. Her fight mode turned off and flicked onto puppy dog mode the moment she saw it was Flamingstar as her tail even wagged slightly at her presence.
Flamingstar tumbled with Creampaw, completely taken off guard by the young cat's give when the Nightclan leader had impacted her. She rose to her paws and shook out her fur. "Well, I was expecting resistance" the ginger she-cat admitted, surprise and approval edging her voice. "Well done, Creampaw. You turned the surprise attack on me."
"I PASSED!" Creampaw squealed as she leapt up and down excitedly. She could already see herself now, head of every patrol! She would only come back with rabbits because they were best prey. Then as her first act as warrior she would ban all members of the RaccoonClan to never set paw on their land again. They were scary, but the raccoons seemed civilized enough to know when they're not welcomed. After she was going to have to get rid of those raspberry bushes. Last time she tried to remove all of them she got yelled at by... By everyone, but this time she was older! She let out a gasp, "I can finally win every argument with because I said so!" She exclaimed excitedly.
"Whoa whoa, hold on" Flamingstar chuckled. Chuckling or laughing was usually quite uncharacteristic of Flamingstar but Creampaw always brought out a weird side to her. "That was only one defense move. I need to see more defense and attacks before I can clear you on battling alone. Then I need to see you hunt. What is defending a clan if you cant feed it? I need to do a full assessment on you especially since you haven't trained much or been outside in a moon."
"Awww," Creampaw whined, kicking over a pebble, which really just rolled twice before falling.
"Okayyy Flamingstar, I'll fight and hunt and then get my warrior name!" Creampaw said, more enthusiastic towards her last words. She hoped she would still be able to hunt and remember her combat moves after a moon. Although that was probably part of the punishment, being a moon behind because her skills hadn't been sharpened. Her siblings would probably pass, but in the moment she wasn't sure if she would be able to fight or hunt correctly, especially hunt. Everyone in NightClan seemed to be so quiet and able to ambush easily, but her golden fur in the dark environment made it harder to hunt in the night than it was in the day. Although who wanted to hunt in the day? That was way too late to stay up.
After several different battling techniques, Flamingstar decided to call their battle assessment to an end. They had spent enough time battling. The moon was now in a different position. "Not bad, Creampaw. I'm surprised you've continued to keep in tune despite your training being neglected. But I still need to assess you more in other areas. Lets try hunting next." The leader turned and headed for the meadow. It was a good place to catch prey.
Creampaw's ears flattened, she was afraid of the hunting assessment the most. She could practice moves in camp, even if it wasn't with an opponent, but unfortunately she couldn't practice hunting. Still she really wanted to prove herself ready to be a warrior now than a moon later so she perked up, "Okay, I'll go um. Get something super yummy!" She exclaimed in her best whispery voice in order to not scare away prey and began to stalk close to the ground, which was a bit odd since she hadn't checked the air for prey. When she realized this she sat up only to find out she scared a nearby bird away. That was fine though, birds were probably a little too tough to catch being out of practice. She tasted the air as her eyes lit up immediately and she whispered to Flamingstar, "Rabbit." Rabbits were common in DayClan, but here, they were a little bit harder to find since there were owls, foxes, and snakes competing for that prey. Creampaw stalked forward slowly to get as close to the white rabbit as possible for gasping as it took off running. Creampaw sprinted off after it, but it was hard when the grass was so high in this area of the meadow so she had to make sure to rely on her scent as well. However as she chased the rabbit out of the clearing she could see that there wasn't a white rabbit, but a white cat holding a rabbit in his jaws running away from her. He was small and his scent blended in perfectly with the rabbits, which was why she hadn't detected him.
Creampaw let out an offended noise, "HEY! That's not yours!" She called out after him.
"I'm borrowing it!" The apprentice aged tom promised still darting off away from her. Despite his shorter size he was fast like a rabbit.
Flamingstar had picked out the scent the moment they arrived on the meadow. However, she chose not to say anything to see how Creampaw would react to am intruder. Unfortunately, she hadn't even noticed him until she saw the two disappearing from sight. With a frustrating sigh, Flamingstar followed at a much slower pace. She would catch up eventually and hopefully Creampaw would have dealt with the intruder accordingly.
"Rawr!" Creampaw said, trying to sound tough, but really it was just her say rawr in a cute way.
"That's really cute! I'm Whitley," The tom called back from over his shoulder. That was about when Creampaw could see that the tom was wearing a mask made of black feathers covering his eyes. She could now feel Flamingstar's energy from her pounding paws as she began to come up behind her making Creampaw's confidence increase.
"I'm Creampaw and you're a stranger!" Creampaw said defensively as she picked up speed on him. Her eyes shined with pure delight as she smiled fiercely when she saw her opportunity to leap at the intruder was now. Without any hesitation she leapt at the tom and pi-
Creampaw looked down. No one was there, for a moment her heart willed on, panic settling in as she wondered if she imagined it or how off she could have been. She quickly looked around at her surroundings, her gaze skimming the deep edges of the forest for a flash of white fur before finding nothing. She let out a gasp and looked straight at Flamingstar, "He was a ghost all along!" She exclaimed before nearly falling into a hole just a mouse length away from her paw, "Whoa! Oh okay, never mind, he just jumped down this hole."
"You let him get away, Creampaw?" There was disappointment in Flamingstar's voice as she approached the apprentice. The Nightclan leader stared into the hole the white cat disappeared into. "Shame we dont knownwhere it doesnt lead out to."
