Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Ivorycrown had been blessed with a second litter. One that was truly hers, of her blood and not some random litter she'd found. Gazing upon her litter, three little ones all bengals like their father. She'd named them. They weren't her boys. No, she'd already lost her dear sweet Cougarkit, Tigerkit, and Pantherkit. A small part of her was glad to be a mother again, to have children to raise. But teh other part resented who their father was, how'd she'd come about having these three, and demands they would place upon her.
A noise came from the entrance to the den. Standing there was the kits' father. Just great. The one cat she wanted to see. Not.

Funk would have guessed he was the one that did the blessing, not that he quite recalled how it happened. But so much has, it wasn't too much of a surprise he didn't. Still, more kits running around with little bengal rosettes meant he had some fatherly things to do. His most recent litters had been clans away, with no hope of seeing them until they were older. But by the time they got older, he would find himself getting bored of them.
These ones were too young for his normal antics of 'letting a loose rat out and letting them chase it' or 'watching fire ants devour things'. And he wasn't interested in risking a pet's life for some shock value. It was no secret to him that Ivorycrown wasn't overly happy that he was the father and had a vague interest in their lives. But they were the future of the League, he needed them to be able to support it.
Today, he came with something simpler. A good-sized snake's shedded skin. Enough to play with. He more knocked on the empty nursery, not overly concerned someone else would be here. "Ivorycrown, how'd the delivery go?" Funk wasn't there when it happened, but he was curious about how the new shaman and mage did.
"Do you truly care?" Her eyes were narrowed, voice sarcastic and unamused. Ivorycrown looked away from him with a roll of her green eyes. She was glad his "present" at least wasn't a live snake. The she-cat had heard tales of his parenting style and couldn't say she was impressed. "Don't bring that thing over here. It's not suitable for them to be playing with." Ex-clan cat and all she'd be raising these kits her way as long as she could, he'd have to kill her before she relented that. Already she could feel the headache coming on at having to deal with him, especially if he made this bring of presents a habit of his.
Peanut squirmed desperately, wriggling his way back to his mother after he had ventured away a bit. He didn't know much in his short life so far but he was painfully aware of the absence of warmth.
(kits are old enough to play and run around. Just a heads up. If you ask me what that is in moons I have no idea. I usually, and personally, always role play kits as old enough to function so I can do more with them than just rolling around.)

(rats are for older younglings, so i would think about 2-4 moons old. also, an fyi delrowe, kits are called younglings in Primal Instinct and have the -chan suffix. so Peanut is Peanut-chan for now)
"Well, of course." Funk didn't listen, he never did. And he wanted to hear how well his new Shaman and Mage did. He figured Nyira did fine, but he wasn't sure about Blue. The Nemesis still approached the queen and her kits, still a good distance away. Pulling the skin off his shoulders, he rested it in front of his paws. "How come?" His head tilted to the side, "It's just the skin. Snakes fine too. Goby let me have it. Isn't it kinda cool? At the top here, you can see how the scales shift to form the head." Funk loved these kinds of things, twisting the skin lightly in his paws. He wanted his kits to learn things like this. Who knows, he might have his next Pathologist on his paws.
(Oh okay, so sorry about that mess up! I wasn't sure since he was asking about the delivery. Thank you!)
Peanut-chan inched forward, glancing up at Funk as if to ask permission to inspect the strange thing that lay at his feet. He extended a paw and smacked it before hopping backwards immediately, scared that it would come after him after his attack, "What is it?" He asked, looking from his mother to his father.

(nah you're good. funk is late in asking xD i didn't think it through)
The Nemesis looked up at Ivorycrown with a cocky smile before turning his attention back to Peanut-chan. "It's a snake skin. When they outgrow their original skin, they actually grow a whole new layer underneath the old one and then shed it. These guys feel real funny, huh?"
Ivorycrown frowned, already she knew this would be a fight. One she'd be having with Funk every day the kits needed them. Clearly, they were going to agree on how to raise these little monsters. But she'd have it her way, and nothing less. "Yes, and the snake is always so happy to have someone take their skins. It's why they have fangs to bite with. Next, you'll be bringing a dead snake in here! Surely you understand that kist shouldn't be playing with things that can kill them. Or are you really that uneducated?"

Funk didn't mind if Ivory wanted to raise them her way. He had another litter that was not as heavily guarded and was adventurous enough to play with a snake. She looked at him like she wanted to kill him, and he couldn't resist the light laugh bubbling up inside of him. It was too funny, especially since he still held the power. "If it's dead, it can't kill them." Funk shrugged, making the skin jump a little. "And I'd tear out the fangs so you don't have to worry. That'd be interesting to see, right? As for the skins, they just leave it behind, so really, may as well make a lesson about it."

Iris-chan watched the situation with a tilt of her head. She was a quiet sort, but she was absolutely fascinated by the snake skin. While her parents bickered, she padded right up to it and ran her paw the wrong way against it. It was a surprising texture. "Why doesn't it have fur?" she asked in her normal, soft tone. "Wouldn't it get cold without fur?"

And this was why Funk loved kits. Cause they had so many questions and an unfettered curiosity, not weighed down by society yet. "You see, Iris-chan, fur is specific to a group of creatures called mammals. We're mammals, so are twolegs and foxes and mice. We all have fur, are warm-blooded, and produce milk like what you drink. Snakes are a different kind of creature called a reptile. They are naturally cold-blooded and can't control their temperature like we can. That's why you tend to find snakes in the sun, cause they like to sunbathe."
Ivorycrown just watched on as her children became fascinated with the creature's skin their father had brought them. Curiosity would kill them one day and she hoped to drill that into their heads become they were released into the world to terrorize everyone without her there to smack some sense into them. If Funk was going to be their influence of poor reasoning and curiosity, she'd become their common sense.
"I like to sunbathe, but that doesn't mean I'm a snake, right?" There was an innocence in her small voice that was almost charming, the kind of charming that only a kitten who didn't quite know what the world was about yet could manage. "We're not going to lose our skin like this, right?" This was fascinating to her. When could she find a real snake?

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it right back. That was the kind of mindset he wanted to give them. Even if that curiosity got him killed, it was better than constantly playing it safe like Ivorycrown would want. If you never took that risk or chance, could you say you are really living? Funk wanted to live and bring them with him. There might have been a darker reason underneath; to see what would do them in or how Ivory would react. But that was really just icing on the cake to him.
"No, your skin won't fall off cause you're not a snake." The Nemesis lightly rapped the side of Iris' cheek, soft enough to where it couldn't even be called a touch, "We shed fur in the summer so we stay cool but that's about it."
