KABOOM
Hmm. Well. Um. That wasn't supposed to happen. It was probably a good thing that she'd picked a relatively secluded place in the old Survival Clans territory to test this out then.
The Mercenary Superior was currently sitting in a rather dusty room. Actually, it was probably more of a small crater now, considering she'd already been rather close to the surface. Wet snow sizzled, and little sparks floated in the air from pieces of burning wood. She'd had this absolutely wonderful idea to try and make a forge. See what she could find in the tunnels, melt it, and perhaps find out what could be done with whatever the result was. After all, that seemed possible, right? The twolegs could build fancy structures out of things, so they must have a way to do it.
Of course, this wasn't her first attempt. For the past two weeks, she'd built multiple rudimentary furnaces out of earth, until she found something that worked. She now realized she had to vent it into open air so she didn't die of smoke inhalation, starting and keeping fires was a pain, and now, that apparently whatever that was, it exploded. That would teach her to throw in a bunch of twoleg things into a fire all at once. Honestly, although she was now completely covered in dirt and maybe just a bit singed, she hadn't gotten herself seriously injured or killed, which was it's own miracle. She'd just... blown a hole in the ground. At least it wasn't anywhere near camp, soo, she probably hadn't almost caused the deaths of anyone.
He had exploring as usual with a plan to bring back herbs so it seemed he had been out for a good enough reason when he happened across an old dusty looking structure, curious he strolled in not worrying of who or what may have been inside when all of a sudden a loud explosion had his ears ringing and dirt and soot shot out in a gust covering his already dirty white pelt. "What in tarnation was that?!" He coughed out the words as he struggle to see his now clouded surrounding and his amber eyes landed on the figure of the Mercenary superior. "That's a nice hole you've made there, but if ya dont mind my asking... what are you doing?" He was a little frustrated but no less curious of the situation.

"Threw some twoleg things into a fire to see if they'd melt into something usable. Turns out, it exploded instead." Shule wiped soot away from her face with a dingy white paw, that only seemed to smear yet more grime around her usually immaculate ebony coat. For once, she didn't seem to mind it. "We've had enough trouble with floods lately, and I'm extremely sick of cats thinking they can mess with my family or the Regime, so I intend to see something done about it. If the twolegs can build to the stars with their monsters, then certainly us cats can manage to stabilize a few tunnels to prevent so much flood damage." The she-cat, a usually stoic and stern feline, had an entirely new expression about her as she looked at this mess. Her crystalline eyes were lit up bright, as though she found this entire thing fascinating, despite the damage she'd caused.
It took a moment for all of it to set in, but when it finally did Ignatius nodded slowly. She made a fair point, though it was strange to see her this way, he didn't know her well but even from a distance she didn't seem the most approachable feline. "That's a mighty fine idea." He admired the work however strange it was, that she was putting into helping her family and home and the more he thought about it the more interested he was. "Well I'm already covered in grit, thanks for that by the way." His tone was joking of course. "Is there anything I can do to help, I'd like to see our home better protected, even is it cost me a little fur." He looked at her and smiled a cheesey smile.

"Well, first things first, I want to add supports to the tunnels, but mere twigs just aren't going to do that. Makes good fuel for a fire, but not much else. I need something I can use to cut apart trees, or large fallen logs. Things I can shape into sturdy supports that'll help prevent as many cave ins, and keep the tunnels stable, even with water." Shule turned to rummage through the ruins for something, before pulling out a smudged slab of stone etched with mediocre carvings that detailed what she meant. It, as it appeared, three rectangular pieces in a rectangular shape, but missing the bottom piece. And there was a bit of dried sap stuck over the three pieces. "So, the idea is to use these fires, melt down what we find, and see if we can make something with the result that allows us to cute these shapes from wood. Then we cover the wood in sap so it's less vulnerable to the elements, and build these into the tunnels, which should, theoretically, stabilize them. It's nowhere near fruition. I have these plans, but that's it. I've only just figured out this basic forge, and honestly, it's not that sturdy itself. Likes to crumble, so I think I need to look for a different type of earth to use. Not to mention, I have no clue which materials are good for tools. I'm starting to think I might need to journey to twolegplace, observe, and ask some kittypets if they have any idea what I need. Not a fan of the idea, but twolegs clearly have the upper paw with their technology, and if there's anyone who can give a rudimentary translation of what I'm supposed to look for, it's them."
Of course, she also now had to rebuild a forge, start yet a new fire, dig out more materials, and honestly, this was a lot for one cat. This plan, with her alone, would likely be nearly impossible. She only had so many hours and two front paws to work with around her duties as Superior. And she needed to keep the Regime running, because she was wholly certain Gossamer was useless.
Ignatius listened carefully and looked over the plan she had etched onto the stone slab, it could work if done properly but that was the problem wasn't it, doing it properly, getting the things needed, things that would give them an advantage. "I may be able to help with the twoleg place, I was a loner before this after all so I know my way around it pretty well, I could probably take you to a few places where we could question some kittypets." He looked back at the crater she had created and swept a paw through the dirt that surrounded it. "Have you tried clay? Its wet when you dig it up but once it dries it may be more stable than this." He motioned to the crumbling dust in his paw.
She nodded slowly as he spoke, taking in his words. True, she'd only a bit of experience in the city, thanks to her imprisonment by the now ex-High Priestess of SunClan, Foxbane. Going on her own would likely prove less than fruitful, and his suggestion made her ears perk up a touch. "No, I haven't. I suppose we'll try that next and see how it holds up to heat. But first, let's head to twolegplace. The sooner we can start figuring this out, the better." It was a long shot to even get this set up, but in the event they could, it would progress quickly from there. Well, she hoped, anyhow.
The dusty white tom nodded once more, now invested in seeing Shules plan come to fruition, as well as learning more about the Mercenary Superior. "Well lets get on it then." He purred, getting back to his paws. "I happened upon this place by mistake, but i'm glad I did." He looked back at her with a smile, nothing this exciting had happened since he joined the Regime and perhaps it would even fulfill his need to wonder or at least dull it.

And on they went, right? "Alright, let me just dust off quick, and then we'll be off." That was easier said than done, but Shule managed it in all but a few seconds. Of course, she wasn't going for perfect, so it helped that she really just had to shake herself into a mini dust cloud to make herself look a lot better. "Lead the way." She could find the way herself, but he seemed to know it all better than her, so she didn't mind him taking the lead on this one. Especially after his offer to help out.
He began to lead the way, ignoring the remaining soot that clung to his already dusty white coat, deciding to try and use it as a disguise in case he ran into any old comrades along the way. "So Shule, have you recruited any other help from the Regime or am I the first to have come across your experiment?" He kept his eyes forward as he spoke, still trying to memorize the area.

"I've mentioned it a bit to Sean, but no, I haven't brought anyone else in yet." Shule answered. This was a strange side of her. She looked more relaxed and in her environment than ever before, like this was truly where she was meant to be, rather than standing as a simple soldier. "I wanted to at least get the basics in first. It's easier to have one cat at risk and throwing random things into a fire, than ten different cats throwing things in, and you have no idea what they're even up to." She explained briefly. Maybe she also just liked the solitude, or had gotten so engrossed into it that she hadn't really thought about it before. Both of which would be true as well.
