Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. Sprawled out comfortably over a large, hot stone, Chim was enjoying the first sunny day in ages. If they were lucky, it was a sign the season would soon be ending, but when had he ever been a lucky cat? At least the clouds were far from sight today. The ginger tom stretched and rolled to his other side. His clan was barely a clan still, just a group of traveling cats banding together under the name SwiftClan, and they didn't need a real leader to take control of them. He was fine with that, he had no desire to lead, and it meant he had more time to relax.
"So you've got to tell me about your eye. What happened?" Oceanjasper's fur was soaking wet; clearly the reason he had come to these sunning stones was to dry off after some mis-adventure by the lake. The lynx point tom shook his pelt a bit then plopped down next to Chimerastar, stretching out his legs as far as he could reach before he started to groom himself, "If I were you, I'd put something in that hole, like a really cool rock."
Yeah, he knew it was too quiet and peaceful to last. He was never left alone for this long, it would be too relaxing to have a real break. He didn't mind getting wet, but he shifted to the side to give the tom some more time on the rock and buy himself more time to match a name to this face. Too many cats had joined too quickly and he was struggling to keep them all straight, though he thought he'd remember one so chatty at this one.
"Fight," he muttered gruffly, though it had hardly been a fair match, "when I was young. Saw the cat who did it a few moons back. Though maybe she changed." Instead, she'd ruined his life for the second time, when their little meeting had spiraled so far out of control he had ended up in prison while a revolution overthrew their leader and took over the clan. That had been his fault, but he blamed her for it too.
"Well, did she change? The cat that did that to you," Oceanjasper wasn't even facing Chimerastar anymore. He was grooming his fluffy gray tail. Even if he had been facing the SwitftClan leader, he wouldn't have noticed the slight change in tone that suggested the topic aught to change. He was not the most observant when it came to matters of the heart.
He didn't answer at first, slowly grinding his back teeth as he debated. It wasn't a story he particularly liked to share, but all of the other former WaterClan cats would know it, and he'd rather it come from him than from them. At least then he could make sure it was the truth, as unpleasant as that truth was, and he could minimize the details to the best of his ability. "Sure. The first time she thought carving out my eye would ruin my life well enough. Next time we met she decided a couple of moons in prison would straighten me out. Wanted my other eye too, but none of them had the guts to take it." He'd been a deputy then, and when WaterClan found out what had happened it nearly started a war; it would have been much worse if he'd returned completely blind.
