Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
[THREAD TL;DR: Chim left his clan a half-moon ago and started to travel. Family and friends and other cats started to travel with him until they had a small group living together. Finally, upon finding WaterClan's land and spending the night there, Chim reluctantly names his clan and SwiftClan begins. Feel free to reply if you have any cats you want to join Swift right away c:]
The remains of the nests were settled at the bottom of the cave, stuck in the low dents of the rock and jammed in the grooves of the walls. They were dusty and molded and fell apart at the touch of a paw, and the fragments strewn about would not serve as a proper nest. The rest of the cave had been swept clean; the rock walls had held strong against the torrents of water, but everything else had been carried away, like it had never been. If he closed his eye, he could still feel the panic of the swirling water around him, hear the cries of his clanmates struggling to stay afloat… but when he opened it again, those ghosts were long gone.
He was home.
Chim took a deep breath and turned to look at the ragged gathering of cats behind him. "We can't stay here long," he told them softly, "but it'll do for the night." They had slept in worse conditions, and the cave at least was warm, the rumble of the waterfall a welcome reassurance. Maybe he would dream of the old days growing up here, back when his mother was the leader of the clan, and his future was brighter than the stars. He had a feeling darker memories would haunt him instead.
He had not asked anyone to follow him tonight, and he would not blame them if they left… but like the night before and the one before that, they had come. It had been a half-moon since he'd left FallClan, and though he expected to be alone, his family had come along with him. He knew why, he wasn't as foolish as he seemed: they wanted him to lead them, to make them a home. His prophet had spoken of it, he'd heard his niece murmur excitedly about the possibility, and it weighed heavy as a stone upon him. Didn't they know he was done leading, that one disaster too many might have broken his spirit? Couldn't they leave him in peace for just one day?
But he could feel it, as inevitable as the tide. Somehow their small group was beginning to form into a little clan with him at the head, and nothing he could do would stop that. He would not try. Sighing, he climbed to his paws and looked over the small gathering of cats behind him, glaring at them grumpily until they fell quiet.
"None of you have to stay here with me, and you're probably best off if you don't. This isn't the most glorious camp or the best company, so I don't blame you for leaving. But I've heard the rumors, and I've seen the… evidence, and since you all don't seem in a hurry to bugger off…" Chim was regretting this already, had he ever been good at public speeches? He tried again. "Okay, look. My father was a great warrior, like my mother, and she'll be remembered by the remains of her clan for generations. I never got along with Lightningswift well, he had too great a legacy I could never live up to, but… well… he was always going on about the family, right? Even if I wasn't a proper son, he was proud of me anyway. So if we have to call ourselves something, let it be SwiftClan.
Now, who wants to join me for a hunt before we all starve to death?"
He really had no ties here. No real ties to anywhere anymore if he was being perfectly honest. Cimber had long since been for gotten by most. With Absum Lux gone and the city over run with the league he'd turned to the forest for shelter. That's where he'd linked up with this little band of cats. But it seemed they all shared a similar quality, they had no where else to go. "I'm not the best forest hunter but I'm willing to try." He mewed in response to the tom's question, stepping forward as he spoke. This was a new beginning for everyone here and for whatever reason, he was really looking forward too it.
"IT'S ABOUT TIME!" Rustyheart's voice immediately rose up to meet her brother's, sounding rather exasperated at the very least. She'd shown up, oh, three or four days ago? Or however long it had been since Ratstar took over SummerClan. And of course, Chimerahunt, well, Chimerastar now, one supposed, was stuck with her. Again. Of course, as grating as she could be, no one could deny she'd support her family, and this new clan, to StarClan and back, even if it killed her. Which it could, given her condition. "Now, Chimerastar, let's go hunt."
"Hey, you seriously weren't just planning on ditching me with the boring tom back in the Summer place, were you?" And now this, this was a voice both familiar to the remnants of the WaterClan cats, and a particular annoyance to Chim himself. Vulcan. Chimerastar's grandfather, Phoenixstar's father. "And really, SwiftClan!? What about VulcanClan, where's the respect?" And then he went mumbling something about kids these days as his unwelcome and ghostly form walked on in, clearly having no intention of leaving wherever it was Chim had just created.
"I like the name," Mangoswirl huffed, in the impatient tone of a cat who valued her opinion more than it was probably worth. "VulcanClan gives me suspicious vibes, like, uhh...like we'll all be killed by a volcano exploding - no offence to you of course, Vulcan. SwiftClan sounds like we're a quick-moving river or somethin' - like we're the danger." Although if Mangoswirl were to be perfectly honest with herself, she'd signed up for SwiftClan to get away from the majority of fighting. With the few numbers they had, she had a hunch Chim would probably try and steer his new Clan away from most of the major threats to their existence. "Anyway, I'll - what was the question? Hunting? 'Cause I'll go too."
[ i was half-way through writing this reply when i realised i didn't know if other cats could see vulcan or if he's specifically there to annoy chim and no one else, so if mango isn't supposed to be able to see him, then just disregard like the whole first part x'D ]

"Chim. Don't be stupid. If you think Rusty and I are gonna let you leave again, you have another thing coming." Tinybreath's voice was soft and playful as she stared up adoringly at her older brother. He looked like a leader again, as he was always meant to be. Perhaps Chimerastar himself didn't see it, but Starclan wouldn't have given him those lives for no reason. Part of her felt bad for just up and leaving Summerclan with her sister right when a new leader was being appointed, but at this point, she was pretty sure the pair of disabled warriors were a matching set. Padding up to her brother's side, the petite black she-cat smiled as she affectionately nuzzled her older sibling. "You're stuck with us forever, you mousebrain. Maybe even longer, if I decide to follow grandfather's example."
Sliprabbit grinned excitedly from where she stood beside her sister Shatteredshine, happy to see her other sister again after nearly a moon apart. Despite the odd circumstances, and the fact she had been made a warrior only the week prior, the pretty silver tabby jumped at the chance to join her aunts and uncles back in their old homeland. An approving purr rumbled in the back of her throat as Chimerastar decided on their group's new name. Lightningswift had died shortly before she and her siblings were born, but all of the stories she'd heard as a kit from Phoenixriver made him sound like a wonderful grandfather and loyal warrior. She was just as eager to make him proud along with her late mother. "Oh! Me! Me! I'll go hunting with you, uncle!"
As far from the rest of the crowd as he could possibly be, Firetooth sat alone, watching the proceedings with an unreadable expression. The young ginger tom wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of joining a clan again, let alone getting back his old job as a Medicine Cat. After the whole 'betraying his ancestors, clan, and family by attempting to drown everyone' fiasco, he was pretty sure that Starclan wasn't looking down on him favorably right now. Like, really. Why else would Starclan have sent his own grandmother and aunt as their envoys during the battle? Luckily, he had managed to sneak off with his tail in-between his legs and not get caught by Primal Instinct, instead attempting self-imposed exile in Earthclan's old territory, which was where Chim had come across him...crying like a terrified kit. Firetooth frowned to himself, still sulking even weeks later. He wasn't exactly sure why Chimerastar decided to keep him around, aside from the shared experience of disappointing their ancestors first-hand. But considering Swiftclan was probably the only place left that would take a traitor like him in, it was better than starving alone.
Oceanjasper had been living near old WaterClan territory as a loner when he observed this group of cats wandering through it. He'd never seen so many cats together in one place and did not waste any time tagging along to figure out just what they were doing. Or, at least, that had been his original intention. Whatever history Chimerastar was sharing did not hold a candle to the ghostly form of Vulcan. The lynx point tom padded right up to the elder, his tail sticking straight up in the air like a gray raincloud, and cocked his head to the side, "Woah, what's wrong with you?"
Before Vulcan could respond, Oceanjasper reached out and bonked him right on the nose, unable to contain his curiosity. Would his paw go through? Or would it hit flesh and bone? He wouldn't be able to focus on anything else until he knew all the details.
Rustyheart, Cimber, Mangoswirl, so far so good. He pointedly ignored the exasperated tones of his sister, but it was harder to ignore his grandfather, even as experienced as he was at the task. "I was hoping we'd left you behind for good, old man. And DO NOT ENGAGE WITH HIM," he added with a pointed scowl toward Oceanjasper, "just pretend he doesn't exist and maybe our wish will come true." He looked back at his sister with a soft sigh. He knew she was right, and he didn't mind having her around, but he wished she could take some of this pressure off him... or that any of them could. They were all capable cats, why was it fair for him to be the one leading them all the time? Maybe he'd brought that on himself by naming the clan, but it wasn't like they were about to leave him anyway, as she said.
He spared Firetooth half a glance as he nodded to Sliprabbit, pleased to have her company as well. He'd told Turtlepaw to look after her until she was made a warrior, and he supposed his old apprentice had succeeded, even if she had ended up leaving the clan. The former medicine cat wouldn't be much help for hunting, but he knew he'd have to talk to him eventually. They needed a healer around here, and he needed the orange tom to stop moping and get on with acting like one. Sure, he hadn't officially asked him to do anything, but if he was stuck as the leader he'd make the other tom his medicine cat against his will too.
Shatteredshine was overjoyed to have her sister back. It hadn't been easy going without her, but she'd followed her heart, and it led them back to the same place. "If you're going, I'm going... but at this rate, we might as well bring the whole clan," she laughed.
Oceanjasper still had his paws in the air, aiming for another poke, but jerked his head toward Chimerastar when he was called out and slowly lowered his paws back to the ground. Normally he would ask more questions, such as why not?, but he was smart enough to read the room and know that now was not the time. He fluffed out his fur a bit and gave Chim just the slightest hint of a glare. It was a similar look a kit would give his mother when scolded for making a mess.
