Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been quite a few seasons since Tinybreath had last been given an apprentice, and this would be her first as a warrior of Summerclan, rather than the Waterclan leader's daughter or sister. Although the petite she-cat kept a neutral expression as she patiently waited at the center of camp for her apprentice, in truth she was rather excited for the opportunity. She was well-aware that Seapaw wasn't native to Summerclan - in that alone, the two would have something to connect over - and that the apprentice was still rather timid and unsure of her place here. In the eyes of the older black feline, it was more than enough to work with. If anything, it was kind of her specialty. Absentmindedly kneading the snow with her paws, she glanced over towards the apprentice den.
Seapaw had resisted being assigned a mentor for as long as she could justify since waking up in the medicine cat den. She had explored camp slowly, and with the help of others her age, accepted her new suggested name, and agreed to stay in Summerclan. It wasn't like she had many choices in that respect, but she did genuinely like the clan and its members. Eventually she had accepted that she would need to learn the ways of the clan to fully stay, and had accepted the cat that had been chosen to mentor her.
Her stomachache was bad the morning she was supposed to start training, fueled by nerves and apprehension. She was sure she would fail, and they would kick her out to wander, without her memories or past, in the foreign lands that surrounded camp. But she made herself wake up and slowly make her way over to Tinybreath, her dark amber eyes avoiding her mentor's gaze. "Good morning," she said quietly, as she reached the black cat that was waiting for her.
Tinybreath's smile was warm and kind as the young she-cat meekly approached. "Good morning, Seapaw," she mewed, dipping her head in greeting. It was obvious that her new apprentice was a bundle of nerves, and her heart went out to the poor thing. She couldn't imagine what it must be like to wake up one day with absolutely no memory of who she was; forgetting everything about her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews. The warrior stretched out her back as she stood up, before resting the tip of her tail on Seapaw's shoulder comfortingly. "Don't worry, I'm not going to bite," she joked with a purr. She paused thoughtfully. "My older brother probably would, but he's not in Summerclan right now, so you don't have to worry about that old grump."
[Tinybreath is being moved to Swiftclan, but for the sake of the training thread, I'll still have her mentor Seapaw for now and if you want we can reassign her to another one of my characters next AC.]
Tinybreath's gentle demeanor did a lot to soothe Seapaw's frazzled state of mind, and she even managed to give her a small, genuine smile. It was a good thing, definitely a good thing, that this was the she-cat who would be teaching her. "If you were going to test what I know, don't bother with that. I'm kind of a blank slate." She lacked the knowledge that clan kits had, with their basic hunting poses and developed wrestling skills. She had the instinctual movements down, but her brain was void of techniques or intricate maneuvers. "I'll probably be the dumbest apprentice."
"Only if you keep up that attitude," Tinybreath retorted, turning to pad out of camp, gesturing with her long, black tail for Seapaw to follow behind. "A blank slate is actually better, if I'm being honest. Kits tend to try and replicate the techniques of other apprentices and warriors as best they can, and often. But that means when it's time to learn the skills the correct way, they have trouble letting go of the bad habits that come with being self-taught...more or less they look like waddling badgers." The warrior chuckled softly, before slowing her pace so that the two were walking side-by-side. "Now, we'll start off simple: smell the air here, what scents can you pick up?"
