Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her recovery had been a rough one, and she was just now, two weeks after her arrival in Summerclan, allowed to leave the Medicine Cat's den. By now the gossip about her had spread- a young she-cat who stumbled across the border with a near deadly fever and no recollection of her past.
Now, at least, she had been given a name. Seapaw. She accepted it because she lacked a name of her own, and was adjusting to it now. The small gray and white she-cat stepped out of the den slowly, acutely aware of the eyes that focused on her, realizing she was the newcomer. Timidly, she sat in the sunshine just outside the den, not willing to venture farther into the unknown group of cats.
Speckledpaw didn't have any training that day and found himself somehow roped into a game of mossball with the kits from the nursery. He had a fondness of kits but mossball wasn't exactly on his list of things to do today. Especially on his day off but, yet, here he was, playing ball with the kits. He gently passed a ball to one of the kits who managed to hit it back just right that it made the ball go soaring through the air. In order to catch it, Speckedpaw had to run after it. Unfortunately for poor Seapaw, Speckledpaw had his eyes focused on the ball instead of the apprentice sitting nicely in his path. Before he knew it, he felt a body bump against his and sent the two apprentices tumbling in a ball of tails and paws.
Speckledpaw let out an "oof" as he skidded on his belly to a stop, the moss ball plopping down inches from his nose. He groaned in slight pain as he rose to his paws, still dazed from what had just happened. After realizing his mistake, his green eyes suddenly widened and an apologetic look crossed his face. He bounded over to the apprentice he had just trampled and helped her to her paws. "Oh! I'm so so sorry! You're not hurt are you?" His biggest fear was that he had just broken her.
Seapaw noticed the apprentice barreling towards her too late, and her mouth simply popped open as she watched him careen towards her, knocking her off her feet. She fell and tumbled, her claws unsheathing and hooking into the dirt to steady her shaking form. Her first instinct was panic, and she fought down the urge to flee, taking a deep breath as he helped her back to a standing position. Her heart still thrummed in her chest, but she recognized that he meant her no harm. He wasn't much older than her, anyway.
"No, I'm okay." Her answer was shaky, her dark beige eyes locking on his. She gave him a faint smile, her dark gray nose twitching as she did so. "Sorry. I should have moved out of the way." She wondered how long it would take him to notice that she was an unfamiliar face.
His own forest green eyes met hers and he offered her a warm smile. A small chuckle escaped his mouth, "oh no, it was all on me. I should have been paying attention to where I was going." He took another good look at her and then confusion lit inside his eyes. "Wait, I haven't seen you around before." He looked from Seapaw to the camp entrance and back again, carrying even more confusion on his face than he had a second ago. "How did you even get in here? I didn't see you walk in!" His immediate thought was that she had suprisingly wondered into the camp without anyone noticing. Was his clan really that oblivious? Or perhaps he was the one that was being oblivious.
"I've been here for a few weeks," Seapaw said quietly, her ears slowly flattening in embarrassment. She didn't mean to cause a scene. "I-in the Medicine Cat den." The term had seemed so strange to her when she had been told it, but it was the place she was used to at this point. "Cloudhopper found me in the forest. I was sick." Sick was an understatement- she had been near death, with a fever that burned through her memories and identity. "They named me Seapaw."
"Oh!" He breathed a sigh of relief. He was glad to hear that this wasn't some kind of mistake or powerful illusion. "You've been in the medicine den this whole time?" He raised his paw to his chin and rubbed it. "Hmmm...how could I have missed that?" Perhaps he had been out training when they brought her in. Or maybe he was sleeping. He circled her curiously. "Where did you come from? Is it far away? Did you have a name before? If you had a name before, why are we calling you Seapaw? Where are your parents?" He poked her shoulder with his paw as he bombarded her with questions, unaware that he wasnt being very polite. Usually Speckledpaw was quite the gentleman but seeing another cat in his clan that was from the outside world astounded him.
Seapaw tried very hard not to flinch away from Speckledpaw, her ears still half-back in confusion and apprehension. "Yes, the whole time. I didn't wake up fully until yesterday morning." His prodding became overwhelming, and she tucked her tail underneath her, shrinking lower to the ground. "I don't know any of those answers. I can't remember anything before waking up. Not even my name." The painful truth washed over her, and she had to fight back tears. It was terrible, waking up in a strange place with strange cats with no identity or past, and now these questions were reminding her of that reality.
Speckledpaw froze, realization lighting up in his eyes. He hadn't meant to scare her. He took a step back to give her space and to not seem so intimidating. It must be terrifying to wake up in an unfamiliar place without any family or friends. "I-Im sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I can be a little much sometimes" he joked, picking on himself. "It must be awfully scary being here by yourself. I can show you around if you'd like?"
Seapaw relaxed slowly, reassuring herself that she was surely the abnormal presence in camp, and he couldn't be blamed for his curiosity. "That's okay," she said quietly. "I'm just a little jumpy still. I'd love it if you could show me around." Her short gray fur laid flat again, and she straightened up. "Are you an apprentice? You haven't told me your name yet." She had been told that she was 'apprentice aged' and that all cats who were apprentices had the paw ending to their name. It was very peculiar.
Speckledpaw pawed his face. "Where are my manners? My names Speckledpaw and, yes, I am an apprentice! I'm in training now!" He puffed out his chest. "Are you an apprentice too?" She looked like an apprentice to him but he was unsure if they had made her one yet or not.
"Technically yes. But I don't have a mentor just yet." She had asked for some time to adjust, to get used to the clan before being thrown into training, and she had been given that time. "Nice to meet you, Speckledpaw." She gave him a small, genuine smile, her tail tip flicking slightly in amusement. Once she got past his large attitude, he was a funny cat to talk to.
"That's understandable" he noted, feeling better that she was warming up to him. He figured that since she was an apprentice, perhaps he should show her the apprentice's den first. He bounded over to the den where the apprentices slept. "Here is the apprentices den! This is where you will be sleeping" he explained, showing it off as if it were the greatest thing ever.
Seapaw followed less quickly than Speckledpaw moved, her ears swiveling as she walked over. Logically, she knew she wouldn't be attacked in camp, but her nerves were still running high and she was on alert for any threats. "How many apprentices are there?" Seapaw, peering into the interior of the den with growing curiosity. Though she didn't know where she had come from, she knew she had never slept alongside this many cats before. It was an intriguing concept, separating by age rather than by family.
"Well, including me, there are eight apprentices! You will make nine!" He exclaimed, excitedly. He slipped into the den and began rolling around on his back in his nest. "This one is mine!" He rolled onto his side and looked at Seapaw with round eyes. "I can make your nest next to mine, if you want!"
"Yes, please." Seapaw was glad she would know the cat sleeping next to her when she moved in. "That's very nice of you, thank you." She poked at the nests, identical to the one she had been sleeping in within the medicine cat den for some time. It would just be a change of location, though she hoped it wouldn't be overwhelming with eight others in the space with her. She had just barely gotten used to the two healers sleeping near her. "Do you guys train every day?"
"Most days but sometimes our mentors let us take the day off. Such as today! My mentor thought it would be good to take a break" Speckledpaw answered, rising to his paws and asking bits of bedding from his fur. "Speaking of mentors, I wonder who yours is going to be!"
