Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Frostedpaw paused at the edge of the glade. She was glad that none of the other apprentices were training with their mentors right at that moment. The tip of her tail flicked back and forth as she watched the sparrow pull at the dead grass, searching for worms that it was not going find in the cold, dry earth. She couldn’t believe the catch she had found. Leaf-bare always made prey scarce, but the sparrow was nice and plump and would feed all of the queens and kits. Frostedpaw moves to where she was above the bird and leaped, her claws unsheathed. She dare not breath as she flew through the air, terrified of missing her target. Right before she landed, she let out a triumphant screech. The sparrow startled and slammed open its wings, attempting to fly off, but Frostedpaw was faster. The small she-cat latched herself onto the birds back and bit down on its neck. She squeezed until she felt the satisfying crunch. The sparrow twitched, then collapsed beneath the apprentice.
“That was an excellent catch,” Beedust spoke from where she had been watching, curious to see if the apprentice would make her catch. The ginger warrior was not great at fighting, but she excelled at hunting, and loved to watch a good hunter work. She moved out beside Frostedpaw, offering the she-cat a smile. “Fat enough to feed the queens, too.”
Beedust was pregnant herself, though not showing, and she was glad she could still hunt for herself. But it was also good to know that even when Thistlestar made her relinquish her duties, competent hunters would still be ready to help.
Frostedpaw started at the sound of the queen’s voice, her white fur, still soft from what she hadn’t lost from kithood, fluffing out and making her look twice her size. When she realized who it was, she relaxed, and purred at Beedust’s compliment.
“Thank you,” she mewed, smiling at the other she-cat. “I’ve been practicing my tail off. I wanna be the best warrior SpringClan has ever seen!” She waved her tail as she slipped off the bird. She couldn’t wait to drag it back into camp.
"A noble cause," Beedust responded with a soft smile. This was good, this interaction with younger cats. She hadn't really interacted with kits or apprentices before, and with a litter on the way, it was probably time to start practicing.
"If you want to bury that, I can teach you some hunting tips and help you catch a few more pieces of prey. I learned some unconventional methods since I was raised outside of the clans." Beedust stretched her back legs, eager to capture the thrill of a successful hunt again.
“Oh yes!” Frostedpaw nearly jumped out of her fur. She began to drag her prey to the side of the clearing before burying it beneath a bare cherry tree. She scooped dirt over it to hide the scent and then bound back over to Beedust. “This is going to be so great! The other apprentices will be so jealous. I can’t wait to tell my sister,” she thought of Eveningpaw and the look that would be on her sisters face when she found out Frostedpaw knew even more ways to hunt than she did. “Where did you live before?” She asked curiously.
"A loner group. I got the basics of hunting taught to me, but I had a lot of spare time on my hands, so I figured out some new tactics." She grinned, motioning with her tail for the apprentice to follow her. Beedust led her back into a quieter part of the forest. "I can explain my favorite tactic for bird-catching, but I can't show you because... well, because." Admittedly, it was a little dangerous, and she couldn't risk harming the kits in her belly.
"We need to find a few berries, first. Grab them in your mouth, but don't eat them accidentally." Beedust kept her bright honey eyes peeled for any red or black berries in the bush around them. Some of them still grew in leafbare, though they would be harder to find.
