Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Thistlestar remained still at the foot of the motionless man-made pond. His posture was straight and tall, stiff with anticipation of the unexpected, but his gaze was distracted and dull as he stared out at nothing in particular. It had been a few nights since the destructive flood nearly destroyed the clans and a few nights since he lost his first life. Since then, the leader had yet to speak the words out loud for fear of the harsh truth. It was odd the experience. It felt like a dream, a small nap and a sudden awakening. He could remember the feeling. A sinking feeling in the bottom of his stomach and a emptiness in his heart. Before anyone could have guessed it he knew, he felt it in his soul.
At last Thistlestar moved, only to dip his head and shut his eyes as he began to quietly meditate on the thoughts. At first, he was scared, more than he would like to admit. The fear of having kissed death so intimately and live to tell the tale caused a shiver to run down his back. Then the shock, the shock of realizing how easily it could happen, even a leader. It made life seem so much more precious. Then, oddly enough, the feeling of gratefulness; He felt grateful to be alive, to have had the blessing to continue his path in life.
After a long while of deep mediation he finally opened his eyes to the dark, night time of the forest around him. He stared around thoughtfully, really taking in the details as if he were a kit learning again. After dying, things felt and looked different around him and he found himself unsure of how to translate back to his old ways...
Dovewish had noticed how reserved her friend had been recently. She thought she would go talk to him and see how he was holding up. Unfortunately, she was unable to find him in camp. She decided he may have gone for a stroll. She padded out of camp, the air out in the forest was cold and she could see her breath circling her muzzle in a cloud of frost. It wasn't long before she picked up his scent that lead straight to him. She went to take a step toward him but hesitated. She was unsure whether she should bother him or not. But maybe he needed someone to talk to so she took a few steps forward until she was behind him. "Hey" she greeted, her voice quiet and gentle, barely louder than a whisper. Her eyes illuminated and sparkled like two pools as the reflective water hit them and a small, elegant smile was painted flawlessly on her face. She came to sit beside him, the moon giving her grey fur a silver glow as the rippling water created a reflective webbing across her thin frame. She wrapped her tail neatly around her moss soft paws before speaking. "How are you?" She asked simply, her voice just as warm and quiet as her greeting.
Having been so lost in his thoughts, Thistlestar failed to realize that he had company. The sound of the she-cat voice made the leader jump uncharacteristically, his widened green eyes turning to find two pools of familiar blue peering back at him calmly. The gentle voice brought the raging emotions in him to a gentle simmer and he sat back down slowly, his fur slowly falling back into place. A laugh of harassment escaped him as he realized his poor composure. "I'm sorry, you startled me." He spoke just as quietly, his brow furrowed slightly as he struggled to stop the emotions from leaking into his words. "I'm... doing better." He admitted hesitantly. It wasn't a lie per say, but better could be measured at different amounts, His amount of better was, less than he would have liked, but the leader couldn't allow himself to admit that out loud. "Your wound is healing nicely." He changed the subject genuinely, taking in the gash at her shoulder, which was no longer fresh and pink, but growing dry as the skin began to heal itself.
A small chuckled escaped her jaws as Thistlestar admitted she had startled him, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." She wanted to call him out on his lie, knowing full well he was not acting himself so there was obviously something bothering him but he changed the subject. Her ears perked as she looked down at the gash in her shoulder that was now dried up and healing. "Oh, yes, it is healing" she agreed. "But it looks like there is going to be a scar there. How about you? How's your head?" The leader had mentioned how sore his head had been which they assumed had been the cause for his black out that led to him drowning.
Thistlestar stared at the gash with a small smile "It would make for a great story." He remarked optimistically "Imagine the shock future kits would have when you tell them you got this scar because you saved the life of the Springclan leader?" He nudged her playfully. His cheerfulness faltered a bit as he stared into the she-cat's gaze "I didn't get a chance to thank you, truly for saving my life." His words came out quieter than before, a hint of shakiness played shyly in his voice.
A flash of confusion crossed the dusty tom's expression at the reminder of his own head wound which frankly he had forgotten since he never felt discomfort unless he touched it himself. "Oh, its fine." He meowed gently "I've had to report back to Fawnheart for the following night on my sleep; she was worried that my concussion would affect my sleep." His gaze trailed off as he spoke. His sleep was affected, most definitely, but it wasn't because of his head wound.
A bright and contagious smile spread on her face as he made a comment about her scar and heat rose to her cheeks when he nudged her, making her heart skip a beat. "Your right. It would!" She purred with a slight chuckle. Her pretty blue eyes met his and she saw the cheerfulness fade from his eyes as he spoke. Her bright smile faded as well as he thanked her. The look in his eyes and the way his voice shook concerned her. She touched one of her moss soft paws to his paw, her smile returning as she blinked at him, "Your my best friend, Thistlestar. I would do it all over again if I had to..."
(who actually saved Thistlestar? XD Because Faith was suppose to and I didn't know when I posted a comment and then she posted her's so I was just wondering who actually saved him? lol!)
(Meh, we just have Dovewish and Glowstar who both saved Thistle XD)
The she-cat's touch brought a smile of gratitude from the Springclan leader. "I don't take that loyalty for granted." His brows furrowed tightly as he looked at the grey she-cat, taking in her scared pelt once again before taking in her gaze again "You were brave out there and it made me proud be running in life with you." He spoke in earnest, swallowing hard as he momentarily relived those memories before breaking the serious streak "I didn't know you knew how to swim." He commented with genuine surprise. "How did you learn to do that?"
Dovewish pulled her paw away, giving him a grateful nod and warmed at his compliment about how brave she was even though the recognition wasnt why she saved him. It wasnt for the fame or because he was her leader. He probably would have survived it without her especially with Glowstar's help but she didn't want to take that chance. She had to save him...she loved him. Her ears perked at his question. "Oh...m-my father showed me how" she stammered with a smile. "He used to take me and my siblings out of camp all the time when we were kits. I dont know where he learned to swim but he always wanted me and my siblings to know things most Springclan cats didn't. You know, for times like this." She explained, recalling the flood with a light chuckle.
"Well your father is a wise man." He stated with blatant honesty and respect "I don't know how to swim myself, but after this experience-" He stopped mid-sentence, his heart racing in his chest as the memories flooded back to his mind. Thistlestar tensed slightly, his claw retracting slightly as he uncomfortably pushed back the memories to refocus on the conversation ahead. "I think it would be wise to attempt to teach the younger cats how to swim now that they are still malleable." He commented, his voice was monotone and serious as the leader visibly took on his stern, leader-like attitude in attempt to hide away the discomfort he felt inside. "I'm sure some of the older cats would be more open to learning themselves. If I were to organize a group, would you consider leading a teaching session?"
Dovewish swelled with pride as he complimented her father. He really was a smart cat which is probably why he was leader even though it was for a short time. She then perked her ears in surprise at his question. He wanted her to teach cats how to swim? She was extremely shy and it would definitely be a challenge for her to teach a class but how could she decline? This was a way to decrease the chance of drowning for Springclan cats. After Thistelstar's experience, it was probably pretty crucial for Springclan cats to learn. Even if they aren't a water clan and dont have much of a need for swimming, it was always a good skill to have in case of anything. Thistlestar's incident was an example of that. Hesitantly, she nodded. "I can lead a lesson in swimming." Although it worried her about how she would feel giving orders and actually teaching, she knew this would save many lives. "Are you wanting to learn as well?" She wasnt sure if the leader would want to, now, or not. She could tell by looking at him that it made him uncomfortable to even talk about what happened. She began to wonder if he had developed a fear of water. Although his voice was strong and he hid it well, no cat would be able to bounce back so easily after something tragic like that. She knew he had to have been effected even though he hid it well. There was just something in his eyes.
The moment Dovewish turned her question back to him, the leader's body tensed visibly. His gaze grew steely as his mind began to combat the desfensive feelings within him. Everything in his mind fought against the idea. Just thinking of the sound of water make his stomach churn. Despite the powerful emotions that reacted loudly in his mind, a small voice spoke through the noise, urging him gently to speak the words the leader knew he had to.
"I have to." He admitted quietly, his expression serious as he held the she-cat's blue gaze. "How can I preach an urgency to learn how to swim and not do it myself?" Dread crept into his chest as he spoke the words. The truth in his words were painful for him to admit. A true leader leads by example. It was a mindset his mother always reminded him growing up. He lived by those words, but in this moment, it was the first time genuinely did not want to.
Dovewish noticed him tense but decided not to point it out. She could tell he was struggling with the thought of learning to swim and she didn't blame him. She could recall the struggles she faced when she first learned to swim and it took her a couple fails to finally get it right. She touched his shoulder with her feathery tail. "Hey, we can do that together, too" she purred gently, blinking up at him.
His friend's gentle offer eased a bit of the tension that had grown onto the leader's shoulder. He returned the she-cat's smile with one of his own, though part of him was forcefully in the decision. "I will take you up on that." He breathed, exhaling deeply before returning his gaze ahead to the still pond before him. In that moment, his mind wandered to Beedust, whom he knew would be worried at this point. He had not returned to camp for nearly the whole day. It was in that moment that the tom was remembered the good news Beedust gave just a day before. Part of him felt guilt for not thinking more of it.
"I... Beedust returned to Springclan." Thistlestar admitted outloud, looking over at Dovewish thoughtfully. In their time as friends, Thistlestar never spoke bluntly on his personal searches for Beedust, but it was evident in his mannerisms that he was searching for someone. Even before Beedust left, their relationship was private, for their personal times only. No cat knew truly how did their relationship grew over the time Beedust initially joined Springclan.
A hint of jealousy pricked her heart like an annoying little thorn caught in the pad of a paw. "Beedust, yes. I was there when she returned. Its good that shes back." Dovewish mewed, hiding any uncomfortable feelings she was experiencing. She hadnt known Beedust very well when the she-cat had originally disappeared but Dovewish figured she had gone back to her old life. Dovewish wouldn't say she was friends with her but she supposed it was good to have her back. The more warriors, the better. The only thing she didn't understand was why Thistlestar had brought that up. Everyone was joyous from her return but that didnt have anything to do with the way Thistlestar was feeling...or did it?
Suddenly, it occured to her. All those late night strolls the leader was doing. The night they had first become friends. Why was he awake at that time? Was he meeting with someone? Or perhaps he was looking for someone. Was he looking for Beedust? All of a sudden, a sickening feeling hit her stomach like she had swallowed a cold stone and it wasn't agreeing with her. Did he have feelings for Beedust this whole time?
"Yes, I was still a deputy when I ran across her." He meowed quietly, a small smile whispering across his serious expression. He paused for a moment, deep in the memories of the past before continuing "I had to vouch for her when Blackstar was in leadership. We were close before she left." He stopped, catching himself ramble on and cleared his throat "This is not a reflection of our friendship," He turned to face Dovewish, his eyes bright and intense as he spoke with purpose "You have been a great friend to me for so long... but I couldn't vocalize an issue I've been dealing with this whole time because I was afraid." The admission brought a surprising amount of peace. He hadn't ever spoken to anyone on Bee. It was a bearable burden he held for so long, so it was finally nice to speak it out, thought it was pretty late "When she left, I was devastated. She didn't tell me- I didn't understand." Thistlestar's words were a bit messy with emotions. It felt odd being this vulnerable, but thanks to recent practice, little by little, it not beginning to feel so foreign. "I searched, for so many moons for her, but I could only do so much. After Blackstar- I had take on so much unexpectedly and couldn't search further than I wanted."
"Just when I was losing all hope in her return... she came back." Thistelstar finally looked back into Dovewish's blue gaze, exhaling deeply. "As my closest friend, I wanted to tell you first, before everyone found out..." He stopped in his tracks, excitement building up to a point of silence.
Dovewish pushed back the aching feeling that the little annoying thorn was causing as it began to bury itself deep into her heart. What was he going to tell her? She learned forward and perked her ears, anticipation clawing at her.
Seeing Dovewish's attentive expression made Thistlestar laugh a bit, his ears twitching slightly "Well, I'm going to be a father." He spoke, surprising even himself with the words. It had been the first time he said it outloud except with Beedust. The heaviness of the words suddenly weight down on the leader and he could help but swallow the lump that began to grow in his throat. "Frankly... I'm a bit scared Dovewish..."
(Are you wanting Nostalgia to join in? Or make a different thread?)
The metaphorical thorn impaled her heart as it sunk into the pit of her stomach, causing an overwhelming sickness and dizziness. A lump in her throat began to rise and tears threatened to form. She swallowed hard in an attempt to dislodge the lump. She bit her lip to keep it from trembling. "Thats...great, Thistlestar!" She forced her comment, working hard to keep her voice steady as her heart began to crumble. "Um, you dont need to be scared." She forced herself to look at him. "You should celebrate. Youll... make a great father. I garentee it." She fought the urge to turn and run away. Escape from the heart break. This was exactly why she vowed to never fall in love. To save herself from the devastation of a broken heart. But of course it had to find her and destroy her.
(Yea, this would be a good time for nostalgic to join!)
Thistlestar looked down at Dovewish, the look of concern in his expression melted with his friend's hope in him. A breathy laugh escaped him as the leader looked down at the ground, his head shaking "I know, I'm sorry for the suddenness, but I didn't know who else to tell!" He stepped forward, his brow knitted tightly as he looked into Dovewish's blue gaze "You're one of my closest friends. It only felt right to tell you first."
(this timeline is WONKY bc I just said Beedust didn't know about Dovewish's love but it's okay, we'll just roll with it and I'll edit my post at the jubilee cx)
She had been watching for some time now, clothed in shadow. Beedust had seen Thistlestar leave camp, seen Dovewish follow him, and a bitter pang of curiosity stirred in her heart. So she had followed them both, keeping a safe distance downwind and in the darkness. At first she had suspected the worst, an affair, the idea that Thistlestar had fallen for someone in her absence, but it became woefully clear that Thistlestar was an adorable, well-meaning, oblivious tom and Dovewish was very poorly hiding her deep love for him.
Beedust wasn't sure what she was doing. She was fueled by a lack of sleep, nausea, and pregnancy hormones that made her incredibly touchy. She seethed at every touch Dovewish gave Thistlestar, knowing this was all irrational, knowing Dovewish was a kind she-cat who didn't want to get between a father and his new family. But her mind couldn't control her raging emotions, and a foreign feeling swept over her; cool, calculated rage.
She emerged from the shadows, making her way over to the two of them at a gait that suggested she was just out for a midnight stroll as well. Beedust offered them her friendly smile, though her eyes were thinly veiling her ire towards the other she-cat.
"Spreading the news so quickly, love?" Beedust asked brightly, purposefully brushing up against Thistlestar in view of Dovewish. "Sorry, I just happened to overhear the last part of that conversation." She turned to stare down Dovewish, her gaze narrowing by a centimeter. "We are so happy about our little kits on the way. Half Thistlestar, half me, can you believe it?"
Starclan, she disgusted even herself. She knew Dovewish would get her meaning, but she knew her mate wouldn't pick up on the catty subtext, especially since he didn't pick up on Dovewish's sappy stares and loving touches.
