Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
( private. pao I thought we could have some brother bonding time! )
Graypaw stretched in the apprentice den, blinking open his sky-colored eyes. He glanced around at his sleeping clan mates as the early dawn light rolled into the den. He missed feeling his brother’s body pressed against him, especially now that it was leaf-bare. And even though Graypaw talked to the other apprentices, his best friend would always be his brother. The tabby and white tom shook his pelt as he stood, quietly creeping out of the den and heading to where the medicine cats slept. He was happy that Amberpaw had found his destiny as a healer for the clan, and yet it didn’t make him miss his brother any less. The life of a warrior had never been for the young tom like it had been for Graypaw.
“Amberpaw?” Graypaw hissed into the quiet of the den, his ears pricked and eyes straining against the darkness. He could just see his brother curled up on a nest. “Psst! Amberpaw!” He whispered a little louder this time, not wanting to wake Hystericplague.
(lost Ok so I thought of a plot idea for Amberpaw and I think it'd be cool if Graypaw is in it! It won't happen for a while, maybe a month or so depending on my activity, but figured I'd ask you if you were interested.)
"Here?" He was half asleep when he heard someone calling his name. Maybe he was dreaming it, wouldn't be the first time it happened. He once dreamed that he heard their mother's voice, but they'd barely known the cat so that was impossible. Amberpaw tried to roll over and go back to sleep, determined it was his imagination, but then he heard it again. Sitting up, yawning, he blinked his bleary eyes at the entrance to the den. His whiskers were wrinkled from sleep and his fur ruffled for the same reason. "Y-yea?" A yawn interrupted him as he looked towards what he could now tell was his brother.
Graypaw grinned and slithered into the den on his belly, moving his paws quietly so that Amberpaw’s mentor wouldn’t hear him. He stopped at his brother’s nest, pushing his nose into his fur with affection. “Do you have any herbs you need to find? I could go with you,” Graypaw’s sky-colored gaze said all that it needed to. He needed some time with his brother. “And I could hunt for us! Maybe even bring some prey back for the clan,” his whispers were growing excited now. “I’m bored without you,” he added, a little quieter, as if it was something he didn’t really want to admit.
(Here's the plot! female kittypet, a patrol of Fallclan cats that are with him when the attack happens and then the ones that find him, enemy About: runs away from clan life but when found claims he was kidnapped by the twolegs he's staying with. Amberbird is out with a patrol (1-2 warriors and his mentor) collecting herbs when they're attacked. With no fighting experience, he runs. The tom finds a pretty she-cat kittypet and moves in with her claiming he's lost and can't find his way home. The truth as he's been chased by dogs, rogues, something and jumped into her yard for hiding from the enemy. The two cats have kits, she sends half of them back to the clan with him when he leaves. She willingly keeps his secrete that their his kits too and only that she'd like her kits to experience the life of warrior/clan cat as she's gotten to know about through his stories of home. This'll make him realize that he really does want to be a clan cat as he doesn't enjoy kittypet life like he always thought he did. )
Amberpaw took a moment to process the words coming out of his brother's mouth. Herbs? Which ones did they need? He wasn't even sure but getting out of camp sounded nice. "Breakfast?" It'd always taken a while for Amberpaw to become fully awake, and before he was, he would speak in as few words as possible. Food usually helped the waking process. Purring back at his brother, eyes still half-closed, the tom started to get up. He didn't care about waking his mentor, Hystaricplague had kept him up plenty of nights with his work so what was an early-ish morning gonna change in that cat's sleep schedule. Stumbling over the edge of his nest, he started for the entrance, not bothering to look back because he knew Graypaw would follow.
Graypaw jumped to his paws and nearly skipped after his sleepy sibling. “I’ll catch you the biggest, juiciest mouse I can,” he promised, though he knew it might not be the best meal in the world. Although leaf-bare was in the end half of the season, prey was still scarce. He followed his brother toward the entrance, pricking his ears as he looked for the warrior on guard duty. Dawn patrol had just left — he could smell their strong scent, lingering in the air near the entrance of camp.
Amberpaw forced himself to wake up a little more, to process more of what was happening. "Yea? You gonna share with me? You know there's no way I'll be able to eat all of that myself." The tom was never a big eater, many said it'd make him stay small his whole life but he wasn't too concerned. Trying to groom some of his fur so he'd at least look decent before leaving camp, Amberpaw tried to think of the herbs they'd need to collect while out.
“Well of course. We both have to be in tip top shape. I’ll try to bring some back for the clan, too. StarClan knows the kits need more meat on their bones. They’re starting to look like rats,” his tail flicked in frustration with how hard leaf-bare always was. It wasn’t just the kits that were looking a little mangy, but all of the cats, from the apprentices to the elders. Fur less sleek and shiny than it was during the rest of the year. “Are there any herbs you can’t find during leaf-bare?” He asked curiously, knowing that the frost would often kill many of the plants, just like it did the leaves in the trees and the grass on the forest floor.
Amberpaw titled his head as he thought about it. "A few. Marigold, borage, um...." They'd just gone over this the day before, but his tired mind couldn't think of the others. With a shrug of his shoulders, he decided he'd figure it out later while they were out. "Where did you wanna hunt?" They could find the herbs on the way, probably easiest that way than to go searching for them one by one.
“I’ll probably try by the old windmill,” Graypaw mused, his head tilted in thought. “There’s usually a lot of mice around there. I’ve seen a lot of plants growing there too, I wonder if there used to be an old two-leg garden?” He led his sleepy brother through the territory. “It feels good to be out of camp without being on patrol,” the tabby tom stretched before bounding forward again. “Apprentice duties can get so boring sometimes!”
(No worries. I'm thinking of doing the plot soon.)
"I haven't been out that way much. But maybe it was? If so we could find catnip there, we're always in need of that." Amberpaw tried to think of other things they could need. His stomach growling interrupted his thinking. "Breakfast first though? Then we can herb hunt." Mice sounded delicious, hopefully, they found enough to fill their bellies and bring some back. It was weird thinking that once upon a time the two brothers were the same rank. Sure they were both still apprentices, but now they worked towards a different goal. Amberpaw would become the clan's next medicine cat, while Greypaw would become a warrior. "How long do you think till you're promoted?" The storm grey tom knew he wasn't getting promoted anytime soon. Becoming a medicine cat took moons long than becoming a warrior.
(Should we have them run into something? Like a twoleg or a fox or badger? Just for fun)
[ swore i replied to this, sorry! and yes, they should run into something! ]
Graypaw tilted his head, flicking his ears thoughtfully. "Hopefully by next moon or the one after," he said. "I'm so ready to be a warrior! I think it's about time. I'm kinda sad you won't be promoted with me, though," he shouldered his brother. They were the only two left of their littermates, and it made Graypaw's stomach churn knowing he'd be standing alone when he got his warrior name. Still, it was a day he had been dreaming about. "Look, there's the windmill! I can smell the mice already," his mouth watered and he moved his paws a little faster across the ground.
(what if we start this into him disappearing then? Like they run into something and he runs away like the scardey cat he is. A patrol shows up just as he's running the opposite way, saving Graypaw but now Amberpaw is missing. So Graypaw wants to set out to find him, worried. But Amberpaw is content cus he found a nice twoleg nest to chill in?)
(Alright we can start it in this thread then. Sorry for the late reply, I got caught up in midterms and classes.) lost
Amberpaw grinned "maybe they'll let me pick your name. I'm thinking Greytrouble or Greybrother or...or maybe Greyleaf!" The apprentice knew he'd never be allowed to do so, but it was fun to tease his brother with some awful names. Besides, Amberpaw wasn't looking forward to becoming a full medicine cat alone just as he was sure that Greypaw wasn't looking forward to it for becoming a warrior. It sucked that they were all that was left.
Following after his brother towards the windmill, Amberpaw asked, "have you been by to Seablossom? Her kits were born just the other day. Just in time for Crownglass to show up." It'd been amazing when he and Hystericplague had come across the older warrior. A blessing really. Especially when they got back to camp and found Seablossom in the middle of birthing their kits.
"Yeah, I did slip in to see her," he paused, thinking about those moons ago in EarthClan when Seablossom had just become leader. He missed those days more than anything, even though he was only just now nearing the age of a warrior. He had always looked up to Seablossom so much. "I'm happy for her," he said, and then, "it's a good thing you're not leader. Graybrother is TERRIBLE!" In the distance, Graypaw thought he heard something. His ears twitched, but the sound was gone.
Close by was a group of twolegs. They' were out rescuing strays, or at least that's what they thought. The cats they found today would be placed in foster homes, to hopefully become adoptable. And the two brothers were walking right towards them. Amberpaw wasn't trained to sniff out danger and the twolegs were downwind anyways. Really, they were screwed. Laughing at his own choice of name and his brother's hatred of it, the tom stumbled over what he thought was a tree root. When in reality, it was twoleg's net. lost
