Goldenhind watched the pond with curiosity as the fish in it remained terribly still. It had frozen over the night before and he was a bit intrigued about the scenario. Were they dead? Could he somehow did them out? They couldn't even try to swim away!

A dark gray and black tom silently made his way through the bushes as he approached nearer to the pond. A vagrant breeze brought to his nose the scent of a clanmate just ahead. Crouching low, he peered out from underneath a holly bush to verify the scent with his eyes. Upon seeing the familiar white and ginger fur of Goldenhind, he left his place of concealment and and approached him. "Greetings," Smokeshadow meowed. "Is the ice too thick to break through?"

Goldenhind's ears pricked at the sound of Smokeshadow's voice and he turned to the tom with a slight shrug. "I guess so. I kind of wonder if they are still alive down there?" He pointed with his tail to the frozen fishies underneath the thick layer of ice. "Or if there is a way to get them out."

"Hmm?" Smokeshadow said as he looked into the ice. "It's hard to tell. As for getting them out.." He scratched the surface of the ice thinking that would do the trick but all that did was leave a few marks on the surface. "This is harder than I thought," he said sitting down next to it. "Have any ideas?"

He stared helplessly at the ice for a few moments, wondering how cats in Winterclan would go about this. "Maybe if we toss a really big rock on it, it'll break? That might also scare the fish, though... If they're still alive."

"And if they're not we could still gather them up and take them back to the camp," Smokeshadow meowed. "Snow and ice are excellent preservers of fresh kill. Let's give it a try." That's one positive thing about Leafbare - the prey doesn't spoil nearly as fast as it does during the warmer weather. He spun around in search of a large rock. It would need to be big enough to bust through the ice but small enough for them to be able to move it.

The ginger and white tom's ears pricked up excitedly. "Oh you're right!" He purred and helped in the search of a large rock. Of course, as soon as you think about looking for something it's never around. "I swear I stump my paws on these rocks everyday yet now I can't find a single one. What about you, Smokeshadow?"

The gray and black patched cat crawled out from under a bush where he was looking. "No luck so far ... hey, wait a minute!" he meowed. Right in front of him was a rock that was partly buried in the ground. It was about the size of a two moon old kit. "I just found one. Now if we can get it loose from the ground." He began to dig around the rock.
