Faith It was strange a night like this was when he was able to see the stars so clearly. In the city, he'd get lucky if the smog was light enough to let him. Funny how it was that now, sitting back in the place of one of his lowest points, he was able to see farther than before. Suddenly, sitting alone, under a tree he had many moons ago, made him wonder if the aliens were watching this stupid meeting. The dramas of Earth must be horribly boring and cliche, but they still twinkled above him. The location Funk E'tan told Sean to meet him was not random, that much was probably clear when he invited the Sentinel to meet him in private. It was completely different when he was here last; no clan who's borders he could sit in and promptly be chased out of, and no idiots splashing in the river he got to talk to. Moons had passed where he didn't even cross Funk's mind, though just sitting here reminded him and pissed him off. It was the kind of feeling he needed to get through this.
This wasn't something he was forcing himself through, this was a machine gun that was firing indiscriminately. Here was just the push he needed to make sure it was aimed at the right person. This was the natural conclusion of bottling everything up for so long, and a part of him knew this would happen eventually. Whether Kotori was lying or not. Whether Glowstar would care if he did this or not. If he proved anything with this baseless show of violence or not. If it ended in victory, defeat, catastrophe... not. Funk didn't really care. He was ready to burn it all, let everything turn to ashes around him. Return to the beginning, start anew. The kerosene was set, the lighter in his hand. He just needed that spark.
Sean emerged into the twilight, night fall trickled down his pelt in harsh shadows as he emerged into the clearing by the stream. The dark brown stripe along the top of his muzzle cast shadows across his exotic green eyes like a mask made of darkness. He gently brushed a paw across his eyes to move away any stray hairs. With a tilt of his head he smiled at Funk E'tan, "So a plants tangled around some rocks huh?"
He walked over to the river to try and get a look at what Funk E'tan must have been looking at, "You know I get it," He said shifting the rocks around, "Here we are, lagging behind the group just to find you a plant to bring back to the league that may or may not be there when dawn comes. But, it's something you can control. I'm just sort of surprised you picked me, it's... Kind of nice," Sean smiled fondly before the expression changed to a serious look, "Now where is the plant?" He asked over turning more stones.

It was strange the Nemesis found himself hesitating. It's not like this was new territory for him, a casual shakedown was nothing. What he found unnerving him was how he couldn't even think anything through. This wasn't Funk E'tan's way. He always played smarter, not harder. He was always logical and kept his cool, not now where he couldn't even find that cool again. It almost felt like an out of body experience, though instead of floating above and watching his body act, he was right here in the passenger's seat. Even as Sean approached and talked to him, it felt like his ears were swimming. That friendly attitude irked him, like nothing he's said in front of him or too him mattered.
Funk shifted backward a bit. "Admittedly, I'm more interested in what will follow this night rather than the actual events. This land holds little value to me, yet I can't help but want to tweak with it, maybe for the last time." He rolled a few rocks in front of them over, though he appeared more absent-minded than his companion. His nerves were steeled, feeling the world shrink in on them. "Things and people. We can't help but want to control them. Want things to go exactly as we think they should. A plant is easier than a cat. Some are unpredictable to the end." He felt like a lab rat; like he was the one being talked about rather than doing the talking. Even if the voice speaking was his own. Those green eyes shone with danger, madness.
"A few sweet words can get you most of what you want." Everything was gone cept that steering wheel. The one he held. There was no passenger. "I know you're familiar with that though. Maybe too much? For everything else...well..." He was so calm, he forgot to breathe. His tail thumped the ground softly as he steadied himself on his back legs. "there's this." He jerked it. Slammed, really, both front paws into the back of Sean's head. Using all of his weight to drive Sean's skull into the rocks below them, Funk held him there briefly before stepping off of him. While surely dazed enough already, the Nemesis took it another step further, punching Sean in the gut and knocking the air out of him. His attacks were calculated almost as he thought of them for moons.
"People get tired of that smart mouth of yours, you know." His voice was barely above a whisper.
A plant is easier than a cat. Some are unpredictable to the end.
"Yeah," Sean said slowly, his choice in words unnerving him. But like whatever, he said weird stuff all the time, the dude was from Primal Instinct, he was going to say ominous stuff.
A few sweet words can get you most of what you want. I know you're familiar with that though. Maybe too much.
Sean stiffened for a moment, his words touching a chord with him, he turned to look back up at Funk, but was swung into the rocks. For a moment everything went black, despite being in water his body felt hot with energy. When he woke back up only seconds later he started to get up before being knocked back into the shallow end of the water, the breath being taken out of him. Okay, so Funk had it out for him for one reason or another. What the heck did he even do recently? He let out a whimper as he looked to the right to see the heavy red of the water from the blood coming from his head. It was easy for the blood in the water to make it look worse than it was, but it only made his head hurt worse to know it was bleeding. Sean remained lying on his back to keep his face out of the water, "Is this personal or business?" He asked, his gaze focused on the stars, truthfully he felt dizzy and out of breath. He wasn't sure how effective any of his strength would be if he couldn't focus it.
When Funk hadn't come back in a while Glowstar went out to look for him. How long did it take for the two to get a plant and a rock?

The Nemesis stretched, something or other popping as he made his way around Sean's prone figure. He wouldn't have even felt the water splashing around his paws had the blood not began to contrast against it. Funk pressed his paw gently where his head met the water, red staining his fur as he pulled away. The warmth and the cold reminded him that this was real, that he really did it. It was a brief rush, he could see why the League cats kept bothering him to let them fight more. Though this was brief, and while a part of him wanted to continue, he didn't. He was somewhat different, had a little dignity. Besides, attacking a Sentinel like this was bad enough. Not that he thought of it.
"Bu---Personal." He fumbled, unable to help his tongue jumping before his mind. It had always been for business, there was never anything he felt personal about. Nothing till now, and he still couldn't put into words why. Growling a little in frustration, he shook his paw off in the water before walking over to one side of him, "Tickle my ear some Sentinel. A mockingbird told me that you were... ah right. able to attend all of your twin sister's failures and couldn't wait to watch this one? Sound familiar?" It would bother Funk later if Kotori lied to him but for now, he didn't really care. He could have wondered if everything was all some playful jabs between siblings if he wanted to, but he didn't. It hardly mattered to him either way. Sean was right, he was here for power. And... and?
Sean flinched at Funk's touch turning his head the other way, rather having it further in water than be touched by him. His devilish gaze turned back to Funk, personal. Interesting. His ears perked up at the mention of the rumor. A charmed smile cut across his lips, "Yes, I say that quite a lot around my family. What kind of father would I be if I didn't talk about the assassin in my family as being some kind of screw up? The Eerie family is just prone to violence, I do everything in my power to try and prevent Lilith's influence on them, but some still find inspiration," He shrugged, but then winced in pain at the movement, "If I were to guess I'm going to say it was Kotori, Zak's not usually out to get me."
He lied there for a moment, his fur floated upwards along the surface, "Sheesh. Well played," Sean said with a smirk, "Little tyrant never managed to steal my life so he hopes someone else will do the job for him. We're a tough family, I don't really know what you expected, Li-Green literally had a face our own mother couldn't love. I mean, talk about tragic at birth."

So it was... somewhat true? Gee, why did he have to get involved in such a complicated family. Funk had a thousand questions and no answer. All he needed to put together was that Glow/Green/Lillith? was the assassin and Sean obviously talked bad about her to everyone else. The rest didn't matter, he shook them out. He could ask later.
The bed below them dipped some, water lapping at them as Funk ended Sean's little monologue by placing a paw on his throat. "This is personal, remember, or are you so tied up in your games you forgot? Come up when you remember." Sean's back leg kicked up as the Nemesis pushed his head underwater. Still, this was some kind of messed up. On second thought, he wouldn't ask. Funny how he ended up supporting the Primal Instinct side of the family. Must have been fate. Pulling the Sentinel out of the water, he was given a moment to catch his breath. "You're a lot prettier sputtering like this than walking around like God. Now, next question, what'd you do to her tonight?"
Sean couldn't help, but let out a helpless whimper knowing exactly what was going to happen before his head was pushed back into the water. He kicked trying to find Funk to kick him off of him, but panic hit when he only hit air. For a moment he became convinced that Funk would drown every life he had over and over. He coughed up the water, this time avoiding Funk's gaze, not wanting something about the way he looked at him to give Funk a reason to push him back down again. His face felt hot with embarrassment at Funk's comment, he probably looked pathetic, wet and beaten and still being held by him. For a moment he kicked at Funk hard to make him take his paw off his throat, but did reply, "I haven't even talked to her tonight!" He was lying, he did briefly talk to her, but that didn't even matter because it wasn't whatever Funk was talking about. He wasn't even sure if Funk knew he had multiple lives, for all he knew Funk just thought he had one was willing to kill him. His claws unsheathed as he tried to aim for Funk's throat, but ended up just slashing a cut over his cheek. His head throbbed, still hurt from being hit onto the rocks, it was hard to land his hits as precisely as he wanted.

Funk didn't move even when Sean reached for him. He wanted to see it. His vision clouded slightly as blood, the pain reminded him of a tickle. The adrenaline that made his body shake blocked out all the pain. For as much as he was basically waiting to lose it again, the pain helped keep him grounded. Of him and the Sentinel. He wanted to savor it, and he couldn't if he was so rash. But it was hard. He pushed a paw against Sean's chest before taking a step back, just to increase the distance. Really, Funk knew little of the Sentinel. Some odd memory or other wanted to claw its way out of the recesses of his mind, but it was still calling to no one. Some name was on the tip of his tongue, he bit it for now. He supposed he was in the business for this kind of thing, he may as well just do it. "Look, I have no interest in killing you. I'm not that bored." He could have, he knew. But just this was enough. Today he just wanted to scare him. It was entirely possible they wouldn't live to see the sunrise, so he may as well give him a chance too, "And I don't care about your family drama and vendettas. This is between you and me. Stay away from Glowstar. Simple enough for ya?"
Sean continued to lie there snorting out a breath of air, "Sure thing," He said, but he didn't mean it, he didn't take Funk as being an "honesty policy" kind of a guy, but how the heck was he supposed to resist? Glow had such an easy to bully appearance, or maybe that's just how twins were, violent and full of hatred to one another. Then again if they were twins he was pretty sure the stereotype was supposed to be that they were close. He looked back at Funk, was he worth beating up? After all with this whole situation going on with the end of the world he was going to get dirty one way or another, may as well be taking on Funk. "Seriously though, why do you even care? You lure me out here, beat me up just to tell me to leave her alone? Why risk yourself for her and don't fool yourself into thinking you like her."
Sean pushed himself up, the water dripped off of him like shadows in the night, "She doesn't like your type, you're a tourist, you enter peoples lives and leave looking for your next destination. Greens stayed single because she knows not to fall in love with selfish murderers and players who have no interest in quitting the game. Whatever answer you're looking for or hole in your heart you're trying to fill, it won't be Green." He was matter of fact for once, not snide, just stating the facts. He took pleasure in psychologically destroying her, but somehow he found it in himself to defend her. Maybe Funk didn't actually like her, but he knew enough about Funk E'tan that he had quite a few side girls and he didn't like the idea of his sister being a part of his deck of cards. Truthfully the whole thing conflicted him because he wanted to step aside and let Funk ruin her life, but at the same time that was just a step too far.

Funk just listened, the water below them rising somewhat. He casually batted at it, watching the ripples echo out before disappearing. He waited for something, some twinge of pain. But it never came. That was adrenaline, already emotionally draining him to where there was nothing left to break. "You're rich, you know that." Funk lifted his head, eyes twinkling with something dubious, "You speak like it's from experience, maybe we were supposed to be the twins." The air was cold to where his breath left in puffs of heat. This wasn't anything new, it wasn't a speech he didn't receive every month or so. Like this was new news to the bengal. Funk didn't know everything about Sean, just bits and pieces but he didn't need to know much to put together than they were cut from the same cloth. And he could definitely tell he didn't mean it.
But even Funk wasn't quite ready to spit that truth out yet. Nah, he was still denying it. "We enter and leave because they don't satisfy us, don't they? If it's not worth our time, we may as well leave. No matter how many places we see, there's few we'd want to live in." Not many cats could keep up with Funk, or keep him entertained. He wouldn't even call his past flings "side-chicks" and "side-guys". Nah, they were more playthings. The kind he'd throw around until they broke and he moved on. He'd never run into someone like Glow before, a gift that kept on giving. One that was too good for him but hell was he not gonna try. She was really more than a place, she was home. He didn't want to leave and that scared him."You act like I'm looking for an answer or something to fill my heart when that's not the case. I'm fine, unlike you. I'm just tired of people like you ruining my vacation."
Sean scoffed in disgust. Disgust seemed to be his primary emotion, "Never!"
Every relation he had was meaningful and something he felt guilty about for years was feeling heartless for leaving so many relationships. But in reality, love was an emotion like happiness and sorrow. Things that made him laugh as a kit didn't work the same as he got older. The sorrow he had once felt time had slowly drained the feeling away, making it feel faded, less attached to him. Love was something he could outgrow. He loved Kenya, but they moved too fast, she was pregnant and scared and she hid it. And he was young and an Eerie and killed her. First and last time his claws would ever slip. Which was why he was certain Funk wasn't like him, Funk got bored, but he also didn't fight with himself the same way the Eerie family did.
"If you're not desperate than stop looking at damaged goods like Green. I'm not even being mean, I'm being honest," He looked Funk up and down with a frown before mentioning thoughtfully, "But like, what even ever, even if I am wrong about you she'll end up with that SunClan tom anyways. They've raised two litters together already so I'm sure the next time I get thrown down in a river it'll be by that guy," Sean shrugged.
Post by strawberrycupid on Jan 15, 2020 14:28:11 GMT -5
Funk shrugged. Maybe he struck a nerve. Maybe he didn't. He didn't expect an easy answer either way.
He couldn't say he regretted any of his past relations. Though he didn't tend to think of them. He could barely call them relationships. They were vacations, passing memories. It was a surprisingly apt analogy, though he didn't like describing everyone like that. There were people that were actual people in his eyes. He didn't like it. Maybe Sean was right, it was best to get out of here while he could. It never ended well, who's to say this time would be different. The voice in his mind that said it was weak and shaky. He knew he couldn't.
"I'm..." Funk glanced down briefly before looking up at Sean and shaking his head. He was close to just saying it, saying he loved her and all that. Ugh. Even the thought felt unnatural but there was no other way for him to describe it. "You can believe me or not, but I'm not looking at Glowstar like she's a vacation or damaged. I'm...seeing her for what she is." Funk didn't even think about the Sunclan tom much. He was sure it was Deal, but the thought of Glow getting back with him made his stomach turn.
"Are you kidding me? What she is is a natural born killer. She can move to DayClan, talk in that rich creamy voice you all fall in love with, but it doesn't matter how sweet she talks or how many cute new friends she gets. She's always going to be an assassin. But go ahead, tell me I'm wrong. What is she really, Funk? I'm dying over here to know," Sean said, the sarcasm dripping off of his tonguee.
Post by strawberrycupid on Jan 15, 2020 22:40:32 GMT -5
"I won't tell you you're wrong. I don't know every single little thing she's done. But... I don't really care. I'm just as bad, if not worse, than her." If he wasn't, he wouldn't be a good Nemesis. No, when it came to it, Funk was as bad as Foxbane. The only difference was all his victims were nameless, gone without anyone knowing who they were. "I'm a plague too. Always wandering from place to place. People aren't people; they're just creatures. Tools. Things. Glow...was the first person who was real to me. The first place, much as I don't like the analogy, that felt like a home. She's... someone I love." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DID HE REALLY JUST SAY THAT? UGH, CRAMPING HIS STYLE SEAN WAS. MAKING HIS BE ALL MUSHY. UGH HE WANTED TO PUNCH THAT STUPID FACE OF HIS'.
Glowstar pulled the vines out of the way as she slowly pushed past the overgrown shrubs and found the two by the river, Sean soaking wet and Funk standing off the side of the river. This could really mean a number of things. Sean could possibly have lost his rock and was searching for it, Sean was flirting with him, Sean was trying to pick a fight with him, truly anything wouldn't surprise her. But what Funk said made her look back at him, she was still staring at him like she was a moment ago, but she could have sworn she looked at him in a thousand different angles. Did he mean that? No one else was around, he wasn't trying to show off or manipulate anything. It felt like it couldn't be true, he played with plenty of she-cats, which was fine, but it felt like he would never settle on her especially when she found out he had a fling with Foxbane. For a long moment all she could do was sit there and wonder why instead of just being happy about it in the moment, like she wasn't worth his time or affection and it was a mystery as to how he could feel that way.
"Oouf, yeah, I've heard of where you live, her trash personality probably does match that place," Sean said thoughtfully, his paw steps almost naturally moved as though his very body anticipated Funk to strike him before it even crossed his mind. He walked towards the shoreline, a little further from Funk, but still curiously looked at Funk from three sides before nodding, "You're cute and all, but be someone she would be proud to be with and maybe you'll actually get somewhere. I know my words are cruel, but I'm not a liar, she will not date you, that's a fact. She will become mates with that other guy if you can't stop that womanizer attitude of yours. I can help you out y'know," Sean purred in a sing song voice.
Glowstar's ears folded, she had been thinking about Darkcomplex, technically she was mates with him after Foxbane literally arranged their marriage moons ago. She had been dating Deal when that was officiated she had refused to think of it romantically, but now that Deal and her were no longer together she had been thinking long and hard about becoming a family with him for real. They had raised Sean's litter together and she had even become a surrogate for Darkcomplex and gave him a daughter. They were closer in a way she wasn't with anyone else, but she'd be lying if she said she hadn't begun to doubt these feelings. Funk she had been crushing on for a while and really the only reason she thought so hard about Darkcompleex was because she thought Funk would never love her back, never just her. Now it seemed he didn't feel that way or would be willing to change if they got together.

(upsetti... mom's spaghetti)
"It really was useless reasoning with you. I told you to cut that out." Funk followed Sean to the shore, wapping the other across the ear painlessly before passing him. The gravity of the situation hit him like a ton of bricks. Sean was right and Funk knew that. He'd have to flip his entire lifestyle to be with Glowstar. Some was easy, he didn't mind stopping the womanizing surprisingly. After all, they were just things. Others would be hard, the kind of things that were ingrained in him for so long. The deceptive side, the lying side. The things that came easiest would be an enemy if he went through with this. His feet were getting a little cold, and not just because they were wet. "Please, I'll be fine on my own. Though, with the way you talk about her, it doesn't take much to be someone like that. What's your aim here, Sean?"
Sean murmured a small groan when Funk cuffed his ear, "You can't drown me every time, I insult Green," He pointed out, but when he heard Funk's question he smiled, this time more kindly and not with an elitist smirk.
"When you enter the Eerie family there are expectations required of you, especially if you marry Glowstar. When she left Renegade Regime for Primal Instinct we both agreed that no matter how bad things got we would always keep the family together by meeting up. And so we have. What I'm trying to say is, you don't just marry Glowstar and it's not my problem, I'll always run into you. I admire your heart though and I don't need cult blood in the family. It's far too late to be prejudice against league cats, that is set and stone and personally I'm happy for the league grandchildren, nephews, and niece. You're the better choice to enter the Eerie bloodline. So I'll allow you to join the family if you just let me spruce you up a bit," He said his claws pinching together leaving a little gap, "Come on Funk, you need a makeover and I know plenty about my sister, we'd make an excellent team."
Oh GOD no. Glowstar ran in place for a moment and then bolted out from the forest to the river panting, "Sean?" She called as if not knowing he was there before fake noticing him, "What are you guys up to?" She asked, which honestly she kind of wanted to know what they were previously up to.
"Making out. It's none of your BUSINESS GLOWSTAR, we're fine" Sean said.

"If I did, maybe you'd stay dead after one of those times." Funk's tail curled around his paws, his head cocking to the side as he briefly considered the other, "I guess I'd miss seeing you a little, though. Definitely not hearing you." ...That was definitely what he was not supposed to do. Oops. Some part of him knew, he said it so quietly after all. He didn't even think about it, it just happened. Fine, no more flirting.
Though the more Sean talked, the larger the ripples of worry were in his mind. The Eerie family was huge, a lot bigger than he could really imagine. Even his family, which he already had a hard time keeping track of, was minuscule compared to them. It was a lot to chew, even more if he was gonna marry Glowstar. And there were like, expectations and stuff. He loved Glow, he really did. There was no denying it now. That's what it was. But now there was all this pressure on him. To be... whatever they wanted him to be. Demanded him to be. It was stifling, reminded him of all that stuff he ran away from. And now Sean was supposedly on his side after telling him to give up on it? It didn't quite make sense. He was lost, but he didn't want Sean to guide him through it.
The Nemesis' head straightened and his eyes narrowed a little, "You the gatekeeper or something? Plus, I'm pretty enough. Sentinel, you've stared at this face enough to know that. What would you even-" Funk's heart dropped as Glow's voice called out to the pair. "doo oh god." He stood and took a small step from Sean, eyes widening as he tried to find something else to focus on. How long had she been there? How much had she heard? Seen? A dark, heavy feeling landed in his stomach. "Hey Glow. Sorry for making you come out all the way to find us. This meeting went on longer than I expected."
Sean's tail fluffed up, at Funk E'tan's comment, it was already humiliating as is to get beaten up by him and okay yeah he didn't learn his lesson, but he'd appreciate it never happening again. Now he knew, drowning was a death he definitely didn't want, plus his head was still throbbing, bleeding too. He tilted his head, "Oh you know, Funk showed me so many interesting new rocks. Even when I wanted him to stop showing me rocks."
Glowstar was staring at Sean's bleeding head briefly for a moment before remembering that she didn't care, "Right, anyways." Glowstar looked back to Funk and suddenly understood what it meant to get lost in someone's eyes. Should she ask him about what he had said? She looked back the way she came and when she looked back she could see everything she walked away from. All of that could be gone, she left, she was certain the flood was averted now, but it the log could break, a tree could move and it could all be over now. "Anyways," Glowstar repeated, his eyes caught in hers and suddenly she could see a future she was walking towards, brighter than StarClan, "I love you too." When she smiled at him her eyes lit up like a thousand suns. She met the distance between him, she had imagined this moment in a million different places, but never the day before the end of the world where they were both soaked, tired, and dirty. She had a tilted smile, "So don't be so shy."
