Light shined across her eyes like a comet when she had heard her horoscope. Strangers could become friends and friends could become something more, huh? So like, maybe they could become a wolf on this month? Okay she was pretty sure it meant mate and that was cool too, but if they could maybe also turn into something more like maybe a wolf that would be just as awesome. Unfortunately for her SunClan was cool, but not that cool.
If a SunClan cat hadn't seen Strik before it wasn't peculiar. While the name gave no hints she was Glowstar, the anarchist leader of DayClan and as such was not always present in SunClan. In a weird way because Littlestar was technically her leader, SunClan often felt that DayClan was theirs and honestly she didn't care so long as DayClan could keep living their best lives. That was her use, to SunClan cats she was probably less of a leader and more like a general that led a separate army for SunClan's aid, important, but not leadership status to them.
Strikhedoniadalisay's pelt glided along the tall grass, the auburn edges of her fur fanning out like a pair of angel wings. She didn't wear paint like most SunClan cats and instead wore a blue feather on either side of her ear, clipped in place by a dazzling blue gem stone. The blue jay feather representing anarchy and the cerulean blue feather representing hope. She was like a walking wildfire, cinnamon auburn waves of fur seemed to flicker like a flame in the sunlight and her reddish bombshell shades shimmered like beach shores. Her graceful movement alone could send soft delightful shivers down any cats spine. In her jaw was a rabbit, she never came empty pawed into SunClan, always bringing a treat from DayClan to them. Although today, hopefully she was treated to a new kind of relationship.

Take a step outside of your comfort zone, and try to solve a problem that has been on your mind. That's what her horoscope had said. Foxbane had been sort of out on her own in recent times. Between her litter with Riverwolf being promoted, and now her new litter with Funk E'tan, and well, her self imposed isolation, the former Priestess had largely kept herself from interacting, except for a few times, such as her little 'get together', congratulating Burningstar on passing initiation, and immediately moving to help Littlestar when she'd been seizing on the solstice.
She took a deep breath as she got up from her nest in the nursery, her pelt hanging limply off her frame. Foxbane hadn't been eating properly, and was significantly thinner than she ought to be, even for winter. All the same, she forced herself to clean up her pelt, to go out, eat a reasonably sized meal, and actually do the paint she'd been neglecting. It was simply, just the eye on the right of her shoulder, and a few swirls and lines, down her back and curling around from the left side of her eye across her cheek. It looked much like snow stirred up in a blizzard. A far cry from the magnificence of her fur as High Priestess, but it was beautiful in it's simple chaos and plain color.
Taking the feather of hope Glowstar had given her, and she'd never had the heart to give back, she fastened the blue feather to her right ear, giving it an experimental swing. Though she clearly did not look her best, the Senator looked better than she had since she'd stepped down, albeit nervous, unable to school her expression into the calm mischievousness that she once had been able to. All this emotion, and allowing herself to feel it, was new to her, and she was unsure if this was simply the culmination of her past, or if the Sun God had cursed her with feelings. Did it even matter?
She slipped from camp in silence, auburn fur catching winter light, the blizzard lines dancing to the beat of the breeze. She was uncertain how hard she'd have to look, but the fox-furred feline allowed herself to simply wander, trusting their deity for once, to lead her where she ought to be. And indeed, it wasn't long before she came upon Strikhedoniadalisay, carrying her prey for camp. "Glowstar." Foxbane's heart leapt into her throat, nearly choking off her voice, but she swallowed her worry. They had a lot, a lot, of things between them. It was time to make them right, and not only that, but now that she'd admitted it to herself, it was time to tell Strik about her feelings. She had to try, right? And at least if she was rejected, she knew where she stood, and could try to move on. Though she'd never been much good at that before.
Snow danced in circles around Glowstar swirling in an upward pattern like angels halos. The thick puffy clouds of snow draped over Glowstar's snout tickling her nose. With a quick shake of her head she shook the snow free and as the snow fell from her version Foxbane entered into hers. She truly did look like a fox in the ever amounting snow, she turned to look back in DayClan's direction, but she couldn't see it, she had traveled so far inward it would take sometime to get back. If the snow kept up at this rate she could be snowed out from her own clan. Five more minutes wouldn't hurt. She put down her rabbit.
"You look great!" Her words were warm and breathless like soft beams of sunlight. Foxbane looked different, yet the same, her fur didn't try to sit perfect and prim, but natural and proper. With the paint dancing across her fur like snow in a breeze and the frosty blue feather she had given her she looked like an ice queen. Her heart throbbed in moments like these, wanting more of her, but her mind always knew better. There were so many things that weren't her place to forgive Foxbane for and yet almost immediately as Foxbane had done anything cruel she was forgiven. She gave a shy look to the side, "I've been doing doing pretty great too, by the way. DayClan's doing good so I decided to come by more since this leafbare doesn't seem too bad," She explained although her eyes still flicked off into the distance watching as the snow piled up.

Foxbane could feel her face warm despite the cold, and a hesitant sort of smile crossed her features. "I don't look half as good as you, and we both know it." She responded, which was true enough. Though she'd put some effort into today, she still rather did look a mess, and Glowstar, as always, was the epitome of beauty. It was only just now that Foxbane was really realizing how gorgeous she thought the she-cat was, and actually appreciated it, rather than thinking perhaps how she could have put her looks to work more for herself. The mere idea now sort of made her feel uncomfortable, which was a very clear sign of just how things had changed since their apocalypse.
"SunClan is doing well enough, Littlestar is a wonderful Priestess. I'm glad DayClan is doing well for the season. They deserve a break after all they've been put through, especially by myself." Her gaze drew to the snow as Strik's did so, hopefully it would last. "If you're worried about the snow, you can always stay with us for the day, I'm sure Burningstar would like it, well, Summersolstice now. She passed her initiation, you know. And if not, I'm happy to walk you back home, if you think your clan will allow me that far."
It was a strange thing, to hear Foxbane talk with apparent humility and regret, and certainly, wasn't the same attitude she usually held. She truly did seem to care, both about Glowstar, with her genuine compliment, and about that which she'd done.
"I mean without you terrorizing us in leafbare it just doesn't feel as festive honestly?" Strikhedoniadalisay grinned, but it subsided into a sheepish smile, "The weather does look like it's turning for the worst. But no, you kind of look like you have something on your mind and if I have to walk through a few extra inches of snow than that's fine."
She shifted her paws, she was sinking into the snow, "Though maybe we could take shelter somewhere first?" She purred

"Oh, I'm sure you have plenty of cats to keep the clan on their toes besides me." Foxbane chuckled, though inwardly, she was rather cringing at the idea of trying to terrorize them. Littlestar would have her tail, at the very least. She did allow her expression to go a touch mischievous however, as ideas of the places they could go. "If you don't mind the lecture if we're caught, we could explore the Janus Camp." She offered. It was absolutely off limits, and once her scent was caught, the Senator expected to hear about it, buut, it was also one of the most guaranteed private places, with only a pawful of cats there, and even those who tried to look for them would have difficulty if they didn't know the layout.
Not to mention the tunnels would almost certainly lead back to DayClan.
"Oh yeah sure, I love the little face Littlestar makes when she's upset, I live for it," Glowstar said following after Foxbane. She tried to hide her disappointed expression, replacing it with a look of relief, but it seemed to falter the more she talked, "Actually no, it's uh. It's been super peaceful so like, y'know, it's been great and totally not boring at all..."
Though they hadn't quite reached the Burial Grounds, where the snow would be melted and the humid air warm, Foxbane paused to look at Glowstar, her expression somewhat confused. "I thought you were tired of DayClan being terrorized." After all, hadn't the leader said, when she and Funk had shown up suddenly after the breakup with Deal, that they needed to start 'neme-seeing other people.' Foxbane had broken every rule Glowstar gave her, had killed friends and used her own relatives against her. Had killed kits and queens without a second thought, had been so self-absorbed that she allowed an apocalypse to start.
And now that it was all over, now that Foxbane had changed, and come to reflect on her actions, if only because she'd been a victim of manipulation herself, she now missed it? Now that she was trying to figure out exactly who she was, and what she stood for, had accepted that maybe she'd driven those around her, even Glowstar, away in a way that couldn't be repaired, now Glowstar wanted that same evil intent back. Foxbane honestly didn't get it.
"You of all people know what I am. I can wear the crown," Glowstar said batting her bluejay feather, "And come off happy and perfect, I play my part as DayClan leader because I love my warriors. I have no choice, but to hate what you did because as a leader I stand for my peoples needs. I had no choice, but to distance myself from you after what you did to my family because my children need to look to me as someone they can go to in times of need and trust," She said, but her tone dripped with boredom.
She smirked at Foxbane, it cut past her precious smile like a blade peeling through a mask, "But I mean c'mon Foxy, did you really think I didn't admire your craftsmanship the whole time? Oh my gosh, every single time you looked the other way from me when you first became leader I only wanted you to look at me more. And that time when you utterly betrayed me by enslaving my clan, WOW. You kept me guessing the whole time, who else could compete with me like that? The world is so boring and predictable, but you were my best friend and betrayed me. I was never more in love with you than in that moment. But again, I had a clan to lead, I had to pull my cards right, I couldn't tell you that, I had to play my part," Her taunting expression smoothed over into a slow soothing smile, but her gaze danced with mischief, "I'm not proud of what I am, I love Deal, I would have loved to slice your throat open again when you killed him. I was really really mad when you tricked me like that with those kits. But there's that sick part of myself that just lied awake night after night hoping you would come back for more so I could try and take you down a notch. I loved not knowing who would be next," Glowstar lovingly sighed out a cold breath of air, "You are the absolute worst influence on me and I am so addicted to everything that you do, which is why you could never know. Until now, you got less power and actually seem like you're going through a good guy redemption arch and I'm proud of you for that. I just know I'll miss this cat and mouse game we play. So. Good game, Foxy."
Glowstar was a masochist, but she wasn't heartless. That was the complicated thing about her and Foxbane. She wanted the drama and the blood, but she didn't want it to be at the expense of people she loved. To love anything Foxbane did was loving the pain of her loved ones and she would always choose her clan and family above Foxbane. But midway through their leadership it became apparent that Foxbane wasn't a manipulator because it was in her blood, like how chaos always felt in her veins. Foxbane always seemed to manipulate because there was a piece of herself gone. As much as she loved Foxbane's terror, she loved Foxbane more and she missed the times when Foxbane was a perfect blend of terrifying, yet stable... Maybe a pinch villainous if only for the hotness?
Why couldn't Strik have told her earlier? They could have worked together, so much anger and heartache saved if they were both just honest from the beginning. How much wasted time, how much resentment had they let fester simply because they couldn't or wouldn't speak from the heart? Emotion flickered across the Senator's face, too fast to pick out one from the next, to pinpoint exactly what sort of feelings surged through her veins. She could feel the anger simmering beneath the surface, a small fire of familiar rage that would be oh so easy to take on, a new target to replace the diminished hatred she'd felt for Deal.
Would you even have listened? That thought stopped her once more. Would she, really, actually have listened to what Glowstar had to say? Would she have cared? Would it have changed anything, anything at all? The more she considered it, the more the sparks dwindled. No. Glowstar could have told her all this, and nothing would have changed. She would have simply abused it. Used Glowstar until she was a shell of her former self, a mere puppet on strings with no substance but what she chose to give. The painted she-cat knew full well she would have played her own part without a second thought. If anything, the only change of outcome would be that they would destroy each other, and their stories would have ended there, destroyed by her own unwillingness to change or let go.
She didn't honestly have her feelings sorted on everything she'd done. It was all tainted, and at the same time, she still craved it. It would be so easy to spin a story, to weave a new web of lies for her own amusement and nothing else, simply to be on the top, to be able to control everything on a whim. She enjoyed that feeling. But she didn't like the bitterness that lingered behind her actions in the past. Control motivated by vengeance wasn't fulfilling, and neither was destroying those nearest to you because you were too hurt to let anyone in, lest they leave you all alone when you need them.
And that was another thing Foxbane had come to realize. She didn't want to lose Glowstar, and if she had to lose her, she didn't want it to be without her knowing how she felt. Without actually giving herself the option of true happiness, even at the risk of unimaginable pain. It had taken both of their clans nearly getting destroyed, had taken Green nearly dying before she realized it, but Foxbane loved her. She loved Glowstar, and it made her heart skip a beat to hear that even for a moment, her companion had felt the same.
"Why does it have to be black and white?" Foxbane asked suddenly, really speaking aloud without much thought. "Who says we can't have it all?"
She spun to face Glowstar directly, breath catching for a moment as she simply stared at the DayClan leader in all her glory, snow sticking to her pelt, the pure chaos that radiated from her, no matter the time of day or night. "I don't know where I'm going anymore. I can't hold on to this hatred, and I can't keep hurting those I care about, but I don't want to give it up. I still want to play puppeteer, but I refuse to do that if it means losing everyone. I want to set the world on fire in my own way, and yet, it's not worth it if you're not going to be there, either at my side, or ready to fight me every step of the way. I love you, and your chaos, your inability to be contained or truly defined as anything but what you choose. I have no clue what I'm going to do, I have a lot of things to think about, amends to make before I do anything else, but no matter what comes next, I really don't want to do it without you. Because you make me happy, you make me angry, you make me feel in ways I can't even begin to describe or comprehend. What's the point of anything at all if I just go back to not caring about anything or anyone, raging against the world because I have nothing and no one to look forward to?"
The fox-furred feline wasn't known for her honesty, but anyone within earshot could tell she was baring her soul just now. She didn't know where life would take her. Maybe she had to give it up forever. Maybe she could find a middle ground. There was still so much to work through, and she didn't even know if her feelings would change. The only thing she did know was that whatever she did, she wanted those she cared about around her, especially Glowstar, because she couldn't go back to being fueled by her hatred anymore. Not when she'd finally gotten a taste of life with others supporting her, even if she was only just now realizing what had been there all along.
(I finally had a good nights sleep to reply to this xD And at first I was like, "Aww, Racer's invested in the story, but then half of me is like, "Or is she just waiting for them to get into the tunnels so Littlestar will be there to yell at them" LOL I'd be cool with that )
Glowstar's gaze paled in doubt, things were black and white though. Her paws shifted at Foxbane's ivy green stare, but like a magnet their eyes met. Color rose to her cheeks quicker than a bird could take flight. She rubbed a paw over her face as though to make it vanish from view. For a long time she thought she could only truly see a persons soul by killing them, that only than could she see their screams and terror bring out their real selves. Fear had a way of freezing the heart and bringing out the purity of a soul, but in this moment it somehow felt more true than the time she had killed Foxbane. Than again Foxbane was dying out from poison and she was bleeding out on the floor so unfortunately as much as she would have liked to enjoy Foxbane's death, the most intimate thing you could share she wasn't thoroughly able to as she was certain their lives trickled out from them at the same time. Yet although she was so certain that death was one of the closest bonding experiences there was this moment felt more powerful than the one they had before.
Glowstar placed a paw over hers and moved in close, nudging her playfully in the side, "Hey, when you need company all you have to do is feel to the right of you and I'll be there. I've always been there when you let me," She touched Foxbane's nose briefly before smiling at her.
To counter Glowstar's own beliefs, Foxbane didn't believe in the black and white. She believed largely in grey. There was too much nuance in their lives, and the lives of those around them for her to truly see in such simple terms. Good things could be done for selfish reasons, and terrible things with the purest intentions, when one saw fit. In her own life, her happiest moments had been tainted by darkness, and the deepest ruts glimmered with specks of light. The former Priestess wasn't naive enough to think she was anywhere near the lighter end of this greyscale ideology. If there was any cat that could be labeled as the most evil of them all, it was she. She had at least three dozen murders under her paw. Eight leaders, Eternalstar included, two deputies, seven queens, one of which was her adopted daughter, eight kits, and twelve cats from various clans and groups, again, one of them being her own child. And those were just the relevant ones. That didn't count rogues, loners, kittypets she might have toyed with and killed, it didn't include those who died as a direct result of her actions, or on her orders, but not by her own paw. It didn't count all the trauma or abuse she'd inflicted, the lies, the manipulation. In that way, her reach was far, far more. Her legacy was of a terrifying sort, and little of her past would likely be remembered fondly.
But all that faded away the longer she looked at Green. She was cute when she blushed. No matter how much evil she had done, with the DayClan leader at her side, she truly had hope in her future. With Glowstar believing in her, she could do anything. The fox-pelted feline turned her nose to Strik's cheek and smiled into her fur, letting out a soft, breathy chuckle. "You've always been there, and I just never seemed to realized what I had right in front of me all along." She stated, pulling her face back a bit. "I don't deserve someone like you, Glowstar. But I'm happy you're here. I haven't been even slightly decent with it before, and it'll take some learning and effort, but from now on, I promise to be there for you too, when you need it."
Foxbane’s touch felt like a relief, a gentle breath escaped past Glowstar’s lips, the frost swirled out from her mouth, but inside she felt warmed by her. She was like soft beams of sunlight warming her face, she wanted to nestle closer into her and tell her-
Glowstar moved away from Foxbane but she could still her warm touch and the soothing way her breath raced past her fur. In situations like this that made her heart race she could recompose herself, but part of her found herself wanting to hang onto this feeling. She only turned her head away, faking looking interested in the distant now snowy forest, “I’m so glad we can support each other Foxbane,” She said as formally as she could, because what the heck was that, honestly? That was so… Different than so many other things before, strange, yet familiar. Glowstar let out an um sound as she tried to think, it was probably because she was super glad that her friend was willing to be her friend, “I guess I should be going,” She said already forgetting about their previous conversation of going to the Janus’s camp in a happy, elated moment.
