LITTLESTAR
SUNCLAN HIGH PRIESTESS
"Oh Sun, Great Protector of SunClan, as you fall below the horizon, you reveal to us the eternal war you fight against the Moon. Lead us this night, that we may help you to overcome your enemy, as you strengthen us against our enemies, and guide us in our daily lives" Littlestar's words rang out over SunClan's camp in the traditional evening prayer as the sun dipped below the horizon, but this night was different. It was the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year when the Sun God was at his weakest.
"Tonight you shall rest, while we your humble servants continue to fight in your service. Our warriors will go forth and bring back fresh kill so that we may celebrate your awakening at first light. Until you have awaken your servants shall not partake of their fruits of their labor as we mourn your absence and wait for your return" Littlestar dismissed the waiting crowd, as warriors began to stream out of camp. It was tradition for all of the clan's warriors to go out hunting until dawn, so that the clan could feast come first light. Only queens, kits, and senators were allowed to eat before morning. However the eclipse earlier had the clan frightened, some of the cats were still having difficulty seeing after gazing upon the sun. Then Autumngossamer revealed that the eclipse was an omen to avoid MoonClan. The Janus were carefully watching that border, but the other warriors had been ordered to stay away and hunt on the other side of their territory. Seeing this as an oppertunity for Bloodyrondo to grow, she sent her promised out with the other warriors to hunt.
After the last of the warriors left camp, Littlestar settled in to feed her kits, carrying them a young hare to share with them. They were just starting to eat solid food, though most of their diet still consisted of her milk. She nuzzled each of them before taking a bit of the hare for herself and giving them the rest. She laid her head on her paws, it had been a long day and she could finally rest for a while with the warriors out on their hunt. She began to drift off to sleep, when she felt a sudden pain in her stomach jolting her awake. It was as if her stomach had suddenly twisted into a knot. She tried to rise to her paw, as the tremors began. At first she thought it was limb weakness, but they became more violent as she collapsed to the ground and began to seize... The world around her fading to darkness....
[REMINDER:Any kit, senator, or queen can be affected with similar symptoms. This illness is due to poisoned prey, and all the other members of the clan are fasting and will not be effected. There is NO cure currently, but the cats that have some knowledge of healing can try to help stabilize those suffering. Your cats can die for this, or you can have them manage to surrvive until the end of the plot when a cure is found]
Divinekit, whom was curled up in her nest and was temporary suffering from blindness, jolted awake when she heard Littlestar go into a seizure. She began to panic. She still couldn't see anything but she knew something was wrong. "Littlestar?" She called out in a small voice. When there was no answer, Divinekit began to wail. "Help! Someone help! Somethings happening!" She hoped she was loud enough for the camp to hear. Her voice shook with anxiety. Whatever was happening to Littlestar, hopefully it wasnt deadly.
Bloodyrondo had just returned from his second hunt and was depositing a pheasant at the fresh-kill pile when he heard Divinekit screaming about Littlestar. He swiveled his ears toward her den and heard her own kits mewling along with sounds of restlessness, but nothing that was particularly alarming. A sense of dread now weighing in on him, the ginger tom hurried up the den, telling himself nothing was wrong even though all of his instincts seemed to be picking up on opposite.
"Hey, Littlestar--" he began, poking his head into her den, then froze. His eyes widened in terrible surprise as he watched his leader and mentor seize on the ground. Her kits were looking up at him with wide and terrified eyes.
He had no idea what to do.
The grasp Bloodyrondo had on herbs was minimal and he could not think of a single one that could help in this situation. It was not like he could just stand there and do nothing, though. He jumped into Littlestar's nest and put himself between her and her kits, trying to stabilize her as best he could be restraining her movements. He would take the blunt of her blows instead of the kits, should she put forth enough force to hurt anyone. He felt her body convulse against his and wondered if she was losing a life, "Littlestar, come back to us, what's wrong? Come on, answer me!"
#yep didn't even think about looking for hottie who may actually know what to do

JETKIT
THE SWEET - SUNCLAN KIT
Jetkit stared wide eyes as their mother fell to the ground and began to seize, "MOMMA" she cried over and over again her shrill voice getting higher in pitch with each repetition. She was crying loudly, as most kits would do, but suddenly her cries changed from worry to pain as she too collapsed holding onto her tummy "OWWWW" she screamed rolling around on the ground "MAKE IT STOP" but the little kit didn't have to wait to long, as the shivers turned into seizures. He whole body shook, as he limbs began to flail in the air and she lost consciousness
Divinekit began to panic more as Jetkit began to seize as well. She heard the kit suddenly stop crying and then rustling. She knew by the sounds that Jetkit was now seizing along with her mother. Divinekit backed away into the corner of the nursery, trying to keep out of the way.
Driftingkit stared in horror at what he was seeing. He backed out of the way, pinning his ears back in fear. Driftingkit was great at observing and knew of a few herbs and one that could possibly stop what was happening but he was too scared to say anything. What if it was the wrong herb and it made things worse? What if he got in trouble for blurting out what he thought would help?

"MOVE!" The voice was unusually sharp, but only far too familiar as a fox-pelted cat quite literally shoved the Priest Promised out of Littlestar's way. Foxbane had heard Divinekit's cry moments before she would have bit into her own prey, though it was much smaller than she ought to be eating, and the piece lay forgotten back where she'd been sitting before rushing up after Bloodyrhondo and to Littlestar's side. The former Priestess didn't care that the young tom was above her now in rank, rather, Foxbane was much more concerned with Littlestar's state, her mind briefly registering Jetkit beginning to seize as well, and she cursed loudly, though strangely enough, the feline seemed far more calm than the tom who should be helping. "Get Mountainsound, Ebonygold, Hottie, anyone who knows how to heal, and have them check the rest of the clan for seizures. If anyone else is convulsing, do not, under any circumstances, try to restrain them. Keep things away from them, and turn them to their side if they aren't already oriented that way to make sure their airways stay clear. Do not give them any herbs, don't put anything in their mouths, and makes sure someone is with them at all times to keep track of how long this lasts. Get calming herbs and paralytics ready. It may be worth trying to sedate them if things get worse, but for now, don't."
The Senator had been all but out for the count since she'd stepped down, keeping to herself and being exceptionally awkward around the clanmates she'd been threatening with death for mere disagreements a short while ago. Foxbane had put herself into a self imposed exile, barely eating, talking to others, and just barely producing enough milk for her kits. Her fur hung off her frame, and the usually tall and terrifying feline seemed suddenly small and weak. But Divinekit's call seemed to trigger something in her mind, putting her into a sort of intensely focused autopilot. She'd almost been the reason for Littlestar's death by ordering her to kill her own son in her bout of insanity, and though she had nine lives now, if she could help it, Foxbane refused to let her lose even one. She'd failed in so many ways, and she wouldn't let this be another.
As she'd been speaking, she'd oriented Jetkit and Littlestar in the ways she'd described, gently moving them away to a farther part of the den, ripping up one of the nests to put moss gently under their heads, keeping a mental note of each and every moment as it passed.
Hottie was about to look for her secret stash of prey because this whole "fasting" thing was bogus. She could buy into a Sun God and had nothing against him, but when someone threatened her food or Icecream than they were going to have problems. That was about when she noticed Littlestar trembling on the ground, it was more than that, she was having seizure like movements. Hottie was about to rush to her side when Autumngossamer sprang forward in front of her, intentionally or not.
"This is the sign I was talking about! Someone here must have gone to MoonClan, if you don't confess for what you did this can get a whole lot worse and I mean like seriously. Someone just confess to it so we can find a solution!" Autumngossamer proclaimed.
Oh. So this was why it was a cult, it was full of witch hunting lunatics where when the going got tough sanity was thrown out the window to make room for fear and paranoia. Well screw that noise, "Shut up Autumn. Your leaders having a seizure right now and until you actually grow a third eye how about you calm a crowd instead of treating the clan like a crowd of people you need to get over hyped."
Hottie moved to go over to Foxbane, but was pushed... She was pretty sure she was pushed, it felt kind of like a sissy attempt if she was being honest. Autumngossammer's brown eyes held Hottie's with an intense glare, "You can't talk to me like that, I'm the soothsayer."
"Actually the correct thing you are is in my way of helping your leader and a kit in your clan," Hottie corrected, but once again Autumngossamer blocked her.
"Ebonygold can help Foxbane," Autumngossamer said firmly, after all Foxbane seemed to have the two under control who were having seizures.
That was about when in one single motion Hottie had pinned Autumngossamer's back to the ground before walking away from her and over to Foxbane, "What can I do to help?"

"If you're not going to help or get help, Soothsayer, why don't you just go away?" Foxbane's voice was downright venomous as she spoke, that same lethal and authoritative tone that said one was half a second away from getting killed if they didn't just shut up. "I don't care what the Sun God told you. I'm more concerned about making sure those I care about are okay. Go talk to the Janus if you want to talk omens and spout your useless rhetoric."
With Hottie at her side now, her tail twitched, and she spared a glance away from the two before her, and to the initiate. "Check the rest of the clan for seizing cats. Time the seizures, and see if you can think of anything at all that might be causing them. Any common factors at all may give us an idea. Have you dealt with seizures, or do I need to explain what to do again?"
"Littlestar!" Jetclaw cried having been in the midst of setting down some prey she'd caught and rushing over her to sister in law, and she could see little Jetkit seizing as well. Jetclaw's heart plummeting. She caught the tail end of Foxbane's order for fetching Mountainsound and Ebonygold, "Autumngossamer you should go to the Janus, Skipstep will need to be alerted about Littlestar." She said before darting off not bothering to wait to see if Autumngossamer heeded her recommendation. Even if the Soothsayer didn't she was going to get Mountainsound and then fetch her brother herself if he didn't turn up to camp as she went about doing so. "Mountainsound!"
---
Sunset had been observing her resting kits, half dozing herself. Then stiffening when she saw Littlestar begin to seize, for a moment she sat there stunned, then her instincts kicked in to do something as Foxbane entered, only for pain to erupt in her belly, sending her crashing back into her nest. "Fox-" She gasped out as the tremors started to overtake her. Due to her still recovering from her abrupt kitting and still caring for her kits she'd shared a vole with a few of her kits earlier, and now her stomach seemed to be turning inside out from the agony.
Radiantkit had been staring wide eyed at Littlestar, she hadn't been hungry earlier and had turned down the meal wanting to try her paw at this fasting thing the older cats were doing. Then Sunset collapsed after trying to get up and began to shudder beside her. "Mama?! Mama no! Mama stop!" She cried immediately placing her paws on Sunset's shivering flank. "Mama! You can't!" Seeing what was happening to Littlestar terrified her. She didn't want to see her mama suffer it too!
Divinekit could hear the urgency in everyone's voice and she flinched when Sunset crashed to the ground in her fit of seizing. The spotted kit pressed herself to the back of the den, her breathing rapid from the anxiety rising inside her. Divinekit hadn't eaten since sometime yesterday...except for that bug she tried earlier.
It wasnt long after Sunset had begun her seizing that Driftingkit suddenly started to feel ill. A pain in his stomach grew until he, too, was taken victim to the seizing. His mother had shared a piece of prey with him earlier.
Bloodyrondo quickly collected himself after being shoved aside, his ears pinned to the back of his head, his celadon green eyes feral and confused. He had hardly spoken to Foxbane even when she was still the High Priestess and thus only knew her through her reputation. And her reputation, well, was not good, but, in that moment, his temper overrode his rightful agitation. He was about to say some retort for being pushed out of the nest when he saw Jetkit begin to seize was well. He gulped and lost some of his fire. Foxbane clearly knew what she was doing, she'd been healing cats for longer than he had been alive, and he had no idea what to do. He would have to trust her and do as she directed, although it killed him to admit it. He was supposed to take charge, he was the second in command after all, but, right now, he knew that the Clan's best chance was for him to yield that authority to someone better suited... at least until the situation was under control.
"Alright, Foxbane." Bloodyrondo replied with just the smallest amount of venom, directed at no cat other than himself, although easily misinterpreted. He hurriedly exited the den and could already hear that other cats were seizing, kits were screaming, it was like the eclipse all over again but this time there was no hiding from the enemy. He first dipped his head into the Warrior's den and then the Senate's, parroting what Foxbane had told him at breakneck pace, and noted that none of the adults seemed to have any symptoms. Only the queens and the kits were effected so far, the real heart of the Clan. He felt a burning rage at this realization - MoonClan was so low as to target the most helpless? It wasn't just a few cats, it was the Clan's entire future!
Bloodyrondo at the present was the first to respond to Radiantkit's alert. He did as Foxbane had instructed and cleared as space for her, then turned to her kits, eager to decode the mystery, "What was she acting like before she got sick? What was the last thing she did?"
Autumngossamer's eyes teared up at Foxbane's comment. Foxbane was her leader, she saw her as special and never called her out anymore. She thought or hoped it was just Littlestar that hadn't seen her true potential yet, but maybe no one liked her. What was wrong with herself? Her tail drooped watching her and Littlestar, she wasn't a healer like them and yeah she was trying to call people out, but this was literally all she had here. She left everything for this clan to try and serve her best as a janus and now as a soothsayer, but since she had become one she sucked at everything. She had seen other soothsayers do their work and none of them had ever seemed like an outsider to their work. Why was she so defected?
Hottie nodded to Foxbane but couldn't help, but watch when Bloodyrondo came in to try and help and suddenly she got it. SunClan wasn't the same as WinterClan or any other clan. Bloodyrondo was like a medicine cat apprentice who didn't just have to study all the herbs, memorize all the medical treatments, and learn how to be empathetic in order to treat patients. He had to also learn how to lead a clan and take charge. She had don it before, but she had many years compared to Bloodyrondo, he was young. Hottie walked up next to Bloodyrondo, "It's best to let these things run their course, but if the seizures don't stop soon it might be safer to try powerfully scented herbs to awake them and if need be open up a small wound and try to enter a liquid calming agent into the bloodstream. It's not ideal, but if they were to choke on any herbs we give to them during this time there's little we could do to save them," Although Hottie's voice was monotone during times like this it was powerful. There was no tremor, her voice rose above the crowd, clear, but not loud, it was able to be understood.
"They were just eating," Autumngossamer said, but her voice was a bit more quieter, "That's all they were doing."
[ so I need a little help figuring out where everyone is lol... I think Littelstar, Foxbane & her kits are in her den, and everyone else is in the nursery? Or are they all in the nursery? ]
Bloodyrondo turned to Hottie, surprised to see her at his side, and giving advise at that. He had only ever been rude to her, but, in his defense, she hadn't been all that nice to him, either. He appreciated that she was willing to but their differences aside when it mattered. And what she said made sense. The idea of using a strong-smelling medicine to wake them up was a good idea he was wouldn't have come up with on his own. He was not one of give praise easily, though, and simply nodded to what Hottie said, his mind and heart still racing. Driftingkit had begun seizing as well, and the nursery was quite full of kits, there simply wasn't enough room in the den to spread them out if even half of them took ill. What was causing this?
Sunset and Driftingkit had been eating right before they seized. It had been the same piece of prey, so perhaps it was just that one, but it did not explain Littlestar and Jetkit's similar symptoms. They hadn't eaten from the same fresh-kill... but they had been eating a hare within the hour! He'd seen the carcass in their den, remembering it particularly well, seeing as he was fasting and was very hungry. It had taken a lot of self-control not to sneak a bite himself. So it was not just one piece of fresh-kill, but at least two, which could mean there were more. It also explained why the Warriors and the Senate were unaffected. There was something wrong with the food.
"All fresh-kill needs quarantined. Anyone who has eaten recently but not seized needs monitored." He ordered to the cats around him, feeling a little powerful, clever, but still frightened, "Hottie, I trust you to look over Sunset and Driftingkit for now. Autumngossamer, come with me to my den, we need to talk more about your omen..."
Hottie looked from Sunset and Driftingkit back to Autumngossamer, she shouldn't have any hesitation helping them. But knowing what Autumngossamer had done made her stomach turn and it never did. She was lying and no one else could feel it except for her. She practically mouthed to Autumngossamer don't-lie, but Autumngossamer turned around to follow Bloodyrondo the moment she saw her mouth moving. Autumngossamer moved a touch closer to Bloodyrondo, finally someone saw her true calling... Maybe. Why was it so hard for other cats to get behind her, she thought that when she earned the title she also got all the respect that would come with it. That's how it worked for Foxbane and if she had to bust a few jaws open for cats to listen to her she wasn't exactly opposed to that. Not that she had a lot of warrior training to begin with, she had come here as an apprentice initiate.
"I'm here for you, whatever you need, I got this," Autumngossamer promised, really hoping she could actually go through on that promise. That maybe if she plead enough she'd get an actual vision or a real omen and wouldn't have to keep lying. Well, unless the omen was something she didn't like, than she'd have to lie and spin it in a way that was to her liking, of course!
"During the eclipse, you said it was an omen to beware of MoonClan." Bloodyrondo began, trying to chose his words carefully. He was the acting leader of the Clan for now and knew he was greatly inexperienced. He had not realized how much he relied on Littlestar now that she was no longer able to offer him advise. He trusted Autumngossamer, though, and hoped that she could at least help him decide what to do next, "If MoonClan poisoned the prey, then they have got to have an antidote, too. At the very least they can tell us what was used to do it and we can figure it out, but this may mean war to get it... did your omen offer any future advise or direction? Do you think I am interpreting this right?"
In the moment, he let his guard down, and looked much his age. Barely a Warrior but with all the power and responsibility of a leader. He was far from broken, but he was scared. Hunger suddenly gnawed at his stomach as he realized that illness was not their only problem - their very food supply was tainted. There was no way of knowing what was safe to eat. There was no time to wait this out - he would need to do something, fast.
"I-" Autumngossamer looked at his face, she remembered being that young, when did she become 34 moons old, she was supposed to know her stuff and be old enough to handle being a soothsayer. She met the Sun God, but he never gave her signs, she could tell fortunes and look into the future, but understanding his will and what he wanted, she just didn't understand, "Yeah MoonClan, they're going to hurt us bad at this rate," She said repeating what they already knew in order to try and think of something, "They don't have the antidote though, they just wanted to hurt us. We're going to need to find some sort of remedy ourselves. I'm going to need to to get my rune stones out and see if I can see what this antidote looks like though," Autumngossamer said and trusted herself with her ability to do so. Maybe she didn't know what the Sun God wanted, but she could definitely figure this riddle out. She was a mom now, she was a soothsayer now, she was just going to have to pretend that the knowledge to do things suddenly came with the title even though that was in no way true!
"No, there's no time." Bloodyrondo said at the mention of the rune stones, "If the other healers cannot come up with a cure, and quickly, then the only option we have is to go to MoonClan and ask for it."
It's the only option. He repeated that to himself again and wondered what Littlestar would think. She was so peace-loving, she would probably be opposed to it, but what was he supposed to do? He had never even met MoonClan's leader, she had not been at the last gathering, she could be snake. She had to be a snake. She was behind all of this, after all. Bloodyrondo was still a little conflicted, but he had convinced himself that this was the course of action he had to take. He looked back to Autumngossamer, "Thank you for your service. I wouldn't have linked this with MoonClan so quickly without your guidance."
(My bad I assumed littlestar was in the nursery as well. Sunset, Driftingkit and Radiantkit can be sitting just outside the nursery. So she could see what was going on as she was sharing some food with her kits. Radiantkit refusing to have any.)
Jetclaw, unable to find Mountainsound had instead come across her brother and ran up to him quickly telling him what had happened.
Skipstep's eyes had widened in horror and then he'd rushed back to camp, tearing through the main entrance and skidding to a halt, looking around and then his eyes widened. "Littlestar!" He cried rushing over to his mate. "What's happened?!" He demanded coming up beside Foxbane looking down at her in horror.
Sunset continued to seize as Radiantkit sobbed unsure what to do as her mother seemed unable to respond to her, and she and her brother were in pain. "Make it stop." Radiantkit pleaded to Hottie.
