"I wish I could be going out," Eaglekit mewed to himself as he watched the night patrol leave the camp. He'd been pestering his mother about when he could be apprenticed but three moons might as well be a lifetime away for the anxious kit. He looked back at the nursery but he knew his sister would be asleep by now. Sighing, he turned to walk over to the fresh kill pile. He didn't want to go to his nest just yet. The nighttime was just beginning!
Badgerbeam was just making his way into camp, his mouth full new and fresh prey, for those looking for fresh food. He walked straight towards the pile and placed the prey on top. He sat down and looked at the pile trying to decide on what he wanted to eat when he noticed Eaglekit, near the nursery. He watched the young cat with slight interest to see what he would do. As if his thought somehow crossed Eaglekit's mind, he turned from facing the nursery. Badgerbeam watched with curiosity to see what he would do.

Eaglekit spotted Badgerbeam just as the fresh prey scent filled his nose. He came running over to the pile and eyed the catch that the tom had just brought in. "Wow! Did you catch all this yourself?" he asked with wide eyes. "Do you have a mouse? I love mice!" Being as young as he was, the short hair on their bodies was easier for him to swallow just like it is for most kits. He tried a squirrel once but found it too difficult to eat although it was tasty.

Badgerbeam nodded his head. "Yes, I did!" He replied with a purr. He looked at his freshly caught prey and picked up a mouse by its tail and mumbled "Yes I do! Here ya go!" Before setting it down in front of the younger tom-cat.

Eaglekit's eyes widened with delight. "This sure looks delicious!" he purred as he sniffed the dead mouse. "Wanna share?" He knew he couldn't eat the whole thing but he looked forward to the day when he'd be bigger so he could do so. "Was it hard to catch?" In his kit like imagination, he envisioned all hunting as challenging not as a routine chore as it sometimes becomes when a cat is a warrior.
"I would be happy to share! " Badgerbeam said with a smile. He nodded his head no to the kit's answer. "It's not as hard as it may look. It takes time to learn though. But once you get the hang of it, it becomes natural to ya!" Badgerbeam replied as he looked around for a good place to eat his meal with the kit. "Where should we eat?" He asked the kit with a tilt of his head and a smile on his face.

"I bet I'll learn really fast! I already know how to crouch." A partial moon hung in the sky lighting a small area nearby. "How 'bout over there?" he asked. Without waiting for an answer, he picked up the mouse and trotted over to the place. But before getting there he stumbled by tramping on the trailing mouse tail. "Eeeep!" Eaglekit squealed in surprise. "It's still alive!"
