Everything felt so incredibly boring to Bear-tyke. The young tom hated being young. It meant no adventure, no fun, no power. Even when he was angry it was cute. Beathr didn't want to be cute. He wanted to be feared. But no matter what he did he was just a fluffy kit with a grumpy little attitude. It made him even angrier. Which made it cuter. It was an endless cycle of cute rage. Well, Bear had had enough. Soon he'd be a cadet and he'd be destined for true power then. The tom was going to be huge and strong and he'd show all those older cats with their "ah, how cute!" and "it's adorable when tykes get grumpy!" and "someone needs a nap!"s that he was most definitely not a cat to mess with.
This morning found him in his usual spot, safely isolated from the other dull, weak little kittens and brooding. And plotting.
Cadet Cidhna lingered at the entrance to the post, her tail twitching in agitation as she waited for her mentor to finish visiting his family. Hurricane always took forever to say goodbye, especially after his family died so recently, and sometimes she wondered if he was never going to leave. They had work to do, but it was like he'd completely forgotten. Her narrow yellow gaze raked the camp for sign of him, but not seeing him around, she let out a half-sigh. She'd have to ask around and see if he'd given up.
She rose and stalked over to the nearest cat, a young tyke she dully remembered from her own tykehood a few moons ago. "Hey! Have you seen Scout Hurricane? Big guy, real tall, dense as a rock."

Bear growled, unnecessarily sour to have been asked such a question. "I know who Scout Hurricane is," he snapped, standing toe-to-toe with the older cat indignantly. "And no," he added, "I haven't. Why would I care where he was anyway?" He cared about no cat, and that was a fact. Bear was alone in this big, scary world and seemed to want to take out his anger and frustration at that on the big, scary world. That included cats such as this one.
Cidhna glared at him. Despite having been a cadet for several moons, she was still terribly short, with soft downy fur like a newborn chick. It angered her to no end that she still looked like a kit, not even a cute one, but no matter how wildly she ruffled her mottled grey fur she still didn't look fierce. "I thought maybe you used your eyes every once in a while and would've seen him walk past you," she snapped back, "but I suppose I was asking too much of you."

"Oh that's rich," he replied, laughing. "Aren't you the one responsible for staying with your mentor and learning? You lost an entire cat! Not me. You're just upset because you're incompetent. No need to take it out on me." Bear-tyke didn't have time for this cat, he was just as tall as this older cat with sleeker fur, so he was would no doubt one day completely tower over her. In his mind, that meant he would be better.
She rolled her eyes. "I haven't seen him all day, I figured he was down here like always. He told me to meet him over an hour ago. I'm 'upset' because he's' the worst mentor in the whole Regime and I got stuck with him." When he was actually teaching her the scout wasn't bad, sometimes he was downright clever, but he was so easily distracted. He frustrated her to no end.

Okay, that was rough. Bear would be miserable if that were his situation. Maybe driven to murder, maybe not. Who knew? So, instead of trying to send this cat away he deflated a bit and responded without the biting edge of carefully placed hatred, "that does suck, why did you get him? What did you do wrong?"
Cidhna frowned slightly, caught off guard. She had expected another insult, but sympathy. What good was that? But she let huffed slightly and glanced away from him, leaning back. "Dunno. He's a good hunter, maybe they thought he'd be a good teacher, but he doesn't even want to spend time with me. Most of the time he's just moping around here, looking for his kits or talking about his mom."

Bear frowned deeply, "I'd never put up with that nonsense. It's your education he is neglecting. What a worthless fluffball, you should demand a more capable mentor if you truly want to succeed." Who cared about family and kits anyway? Bear was looking forward to power and respect, not a mate and kits.
