Stormsurge sat sunning herself beside the nursery, the weak rays of winter sun doing very little to warm her fur. But, as most WinterClan cats of pure blood, her thick fur kept her warm. Her children, over 6 moons old now, were in the nursery thinking about their paths. Stormsurge made them do that a lot. Sit still and envision your future, make a plan, and make it happen.
The grey cat wasn't a good mother, but she was a good soldier. Her loyalty to her clans knew no bounds and whatever WinterClan needed, she would be sure to try and provide it. Stormsurge was quick, intelligent, and ruthless. Being a mother tamed none of that. And she hated it. Hated the nursery and the confinement, hated watching five brats, hated knowing that two of her kits were not fit to be soldiers at all. A blind cat and a deaf cat? What curse led to two of her children being born in such a way?
And her other kits showed little promise as well. Only her kit, Polarpaw, showed any signs of greatness. He alone was promoted to student, Stormsurge had insisted the other wait longer, and she was very involved with his training. But that was over with for the day too. All she could really do now was sit and wait. But even as she waited, she wondered if she needed to think about another litter. Would it be beneficial to her clan?
"Stormsurge" Frostcloud greeted with a curt nod. She had heard the queen's kits would be starting their training soon, however, the queen didn't seem so happy. Frostcloud didn't care for other's feelings. It was usually a waste of time and wasn't something she enjoyed listening to. However, on this particular day, there wasn't much going on and was rather bored. She figured talking to one of the queens would keep her bordem at bay. "How's your day going?" She asked casually, taking a seat beside the irritated queen.

"Terrible," she answered promptly, Stormsurge wasn't beloved, but she was respected. and because of that, she always did her best to interact as needed. This seemed one of those times. "I'm just thinking about my children. Wondering if I'd done something wrong in raising them, almost all of them are sore disappointments to me." Why hide that? Blood was important to Stormsurge in the way that it was to WinterClan: have some of the clans bloodlines. But personal relationships between the individuals with those bloodlines? Stormsurge didn't care. So what if she disliked her kits? To her that was no different than her disliked her cousins or second uncle or whatever.
The knight looked at Stormsurge in bewilderment. "Your kits are more important than you realize. Your deaf one probably has eyes like a hawk! And your blind one probably have ears that can hear the smallest of sounds and a nose that can track a two day trail! You see their flaws but have you tried to see their strengths?" Frostcloud looked toward the nursery, seeing the movement inside. "It is to be believed that when a cat lacks one sense, their other senses will make up for that lack. So actually, your kits are probably just as promising as the rest of the clan kits." She looked back at Stormsurge, her blue eyes intense.

Stormsurge rolled her eyes, "don't pretend, Frostcloud. You know perfectly well that any self-respecting soldier would resent being led by a blind or deaf cat. It's just simply not possible. A cat lacking one sense is not good enough to ever be a Sovereign." Her voice was sharp with bitter disappointment as she finished, tail lashing in agitation.
