"Don't look so deeply into it." Funk chuckled a bit as he spoke, but he didn't meet Mellori's gaze. Even the moments he did, it was shallow enough to wade in, "I get that a lot, but cats tend to change their tune quickly. That's all."

Funk felt a dry lump forming in his throat at her words. He wanted some quip or laugh to counter those words, but nothing did. It wasn't like he was unfamiliar with that, the challenge maybe. Or a bizarre strain of hope. The Nemesis had them dashed, there seemed to be no way for him not to mess it up. Some times of his own volition, sometimes not. Either way, he stared out through the trees. Familiar but different. Somehow he had to stifle a yawn.
Mellori was unsure if Funk was alright. He seemed distracted or had a loss for words. Or perhaps she was just boring him. She wasnt exactly the most fun cat to hang out with. What she did in her spare time was to usually think up ways to crush any enemies or different strategies she could use in a fight or to lure in victims but now she felt that all of those times she spent thinking could have gone to being more of a cat and less of a monster. She tried to think. What would be fun? She wasnt even sure what classified as fun or what the definition of fun was. Her version was slaying cats but if she were to attract Funk's attention and prove she was different from the rest, she had to think up something clever. She rubbed her chin in thought as she scanned the park. Then it struck her. Nothing was more fun than starting a little mischief and living in the city made that easy. "Come with me" she said at last, taking off toward the two-leg dens.
She led Funk to a den that had a fence wrapped around their garden. She could smell the strong scent of dog. Mellori gave a smirk before leaping up onto the top of the fence and balancing perfectly on it. She waited for Funk to follow her up. "Shhh" she hushed so that he knew to be quiet when he made it up next to her.

Funk was snapped out of his thoughts and followed Mellori. Gee, this wasn't like him. To be so introspective, it was annoying in a sense. A part of him wouldn't have minded Mellori's usual state of fun, there was little more cathartic than a good string of violence. Even if he wasn't the most aggressive or best fighter. Even just walking through the park helped him clear his mind some. With the black she-cat suddenly feeling to prove herself and her plan a big mystery, Funk E'tan felt his heart beginning to drum. "Now when was the last time someone shushed the Nemesis?" His voice was barely above a whisper, but he complied with a smile, hopping up on the fence quietly.
She smiled, "Watch." She turned in the direction of the sleeping dog. "Hey bone breath! Over here!"
The dog's yellow eyes shot open and it hurled itself at the two cats on the fence. However, Melori didn't flinch. The dog got closer and closer until suddenly, the chain tightened and the dog was cut short of its run and jerked back, landing on it's back. It shot to its paws and began barking. Suddenly the light flicked on in the twoleg den and a twoleg came out, scolding the dog. The dog whimpered and ran back into its miniature den.
"Ha! Lousey mange pelt!" Mellori laughed, finding amusement in what she had done to the dog.

Funk E'tan let a smile slip as he watched Mellori taunt the dog. Even if he could see the creature choking itself the moment it started running at them. Why the twolegs tied them down he wasn't sure, but even watching it made his throat hurt a little. "Always fun." Funk whispered, rubbing his throat some with the back of his paw, "though I wonder if there's something more we can do to stir that thing up?" Great, the gears were turning in his mind. This was never good, but at least it wasn't Mellori at risk here.

(funk: i'm about to ruin this whole family's night)
What was life without risking your life on a whim? He was the kind to jump off a bridge first just to see if he'd live. These extra lives only emboldened him. "Oh it's more fun when it's a surprise, you know." He smiled, a gleam of life and mischief returning to his eyes, "I'll even be nice and do the dirty work. You just call the dog to you when I give you the signal. Keep it entertained but not too much." The Nemesis' voice was quiet, as were his pawsteps as he walked along the fence. On the opposite side, he was closer to the doghouse and the sliding glass door that led into the twoleg's house. This was way too risky, he knew. He still waved his tail, sending a signal to Mellori. Now to see if she really was different.
She smirked at him and gave him a curt nod. She watched him go to the other side of the garden. What is he doing? she wondered with a hint of excitement. She couldn't wait to see what he had in mind. When he gave her the signal, she began to distract the dog. "Hey pea brain! You want some of this? Come and get it!" She waved her tail in the air, taunting the dog.
The dog continued to try and break the chain, barking and drooling, baring it's white glinting teeth.
"Yeah, that's right! You cant get me because your a two-leg's pet!" This was fun already! She liked making the mutt angry.

(everyone will be okay so it's fine i told everyone in pi chat he needed to kick a dog forever ago so this is convenient)
This is such a dumb idea. He couldn't help but think. It didn't stop him from moving in the instant the dog focused on Mellori. Listening to it snap at the air, Funk couldn't help the chill up his spine as he imagined it shattering something's spine. It almost distracted him from his main mission. The grass in the backyard was dead or trampled down by the dog, and finding the post where the chain was wrapped around was easy. He ripped a piece out of the ground and took his time going to the post. No doubt the twoleg would come back soon. Glancing up to check on the dog quickly, he dug the dirt out from around the post on his side. The more it pulled, the closer it got to the fence, but it wasn't pulled up enough for it to get completely lose. Walking back to his side of the fence, the Nemesis took a deep breath, steeling his nerves before blowing through the grass piece hard. The whistle made the dog's head snap towards him, and a little wave of the Nemesis' tail had it charging at him.
Mellori held her breath as the dog came charging at him. At least when she tormented the dog, it was chained up. Now, Funk had the dog charging him with the chain partially dug up. If that chain yanks out of the ground, Funk would be dog food. The jet black she-cat gulped, praying to whoever that the tom knew what he was doing.

He'd seen Ballad do this so many times when they were young, he just needed to put his own twist on it. Teasing a tied-up dog was nothing new, but watching it charge at him at full speed was a different kind of thrill. One he only appreciated now. The stake was dug up, and it didn't take much force for the dog to pull it free from the ground. Not that it even noticed, his focus entranced on the bengal Nemesis. Funk let it get a few steps before he booked it. The dog didn't slow around the corner, chasing Funk in an angered fervor. Only agitated more when it's snapping jaws were kicked a little by his back legs. Like he was really teasing it, not running for his life. It was fine, he thought. As he approached his target, Funk slowed down to face the dog. Its gaze didn't break with him, not even able to see the trap that was laid. It jumped at him, and it felt like time slowed around him. He could count those teeth, feel the drool. Though he didn't stick around. Funk pushed himself off the step, diving underneath the dog, who couldn't stop it's momentum and crashed into and through the sliding glass door. The Nemesis didn't stay to admire his handiwork, instead scrambling up the fence. Glass scattered the ground and he could see a few silhouettes of humans come out to see what had happened.

Funk coughed a few dry coughs before hopping down. He could hear the concerned twolegs checking on their dog and probably wondering how this whole mess even happened. His laugh was dry and hollow, though the feeling of adrenaline and excitement was definitely real.
"That was so cool!" She gave a little bounce but was suddenly aware that she was acting like a kit and straightened up with a sheepish smile. "I mean, that was pretty brave." She pawed awkwardly at the ground.
Her cheeks pulled back into a genuine smile at last. "You were all of the above!" She chuckled, still panting from the adrenaline she felt just by watching him. "How did you know that would work?"

Funk's claws raked along the ground, the adrenaline crash hitting him hard as he let out a yawn. Laughing through the tail end of it, he nodded, "I'll take it. Never hurts to be a little stupid and brave every now and again. It was an old stunt Jazz used to do to get money. Cats would bet that he couldn't escape a dog's jaws and then he'd pull something like that."
