Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The young apprentice slipped into the den quietly and hesitated near the entrance, blinking as she adjusted to the slight darkness. The moon was still low in the sky, and shadows greeted her from the back of the den where the light didn't reach. Carvedpaw's soft gaze jumped from the open nests to the back of the den to the entrance again, wondering if it was too late to leave. She knew she needed to check with the medicine cats one more time, she'd just started training a quarter moon ago and her father fretted she'd end up hurt and comatose again, but she felt fine. The white she-cat shifted from paw to paw, debating, before she finally gave in with a sigh.
"Tealeaves? Lambpaw?" she mewed tentatively to the den, turning to face it once again and glancing about for a sign of them further in. "It's Carvedpaw, I'm here for a check?"
It had been a moment since Lambpaw had seen his mentor, the medicine cat mentioned stepping out to look for herbs or something, leaving the curly furred tom to hold down the fort until his return. The darkness of night was rapidly closing in on the world and as the moon made it's way into the sky and shadows began to cast their forms he could feel his body and mind easing in relaxation, he was not cold or grumpy but the darkness was his comfort, as it was for many of his clanmates. Having grown tired of doing nothing while he awaited the return of his mentor the young apprentice began to story their sick of herbs top pass time when an uncertain voice echoed in the den, a sigh escaped his lips as he heard his name, it would be just his luck that someone would come just as he began a task. "Who is--" his sentence cut short as his eyes coat sight of the voices owner, her name ringing ot shortly after. "Oh, hello Carvedpaw, Tealeaves is out so I guess you're sick with me." He gave her a joking grin, his muddy grey eyes glowing silver under the moon.
"Oh--- is that okay? I can come back later if it's a problem..." She trailed off, thinking her mentor might get upset if she had to find a different time to come by, but if Lambpaw couldn't look after her what else could she do? She didn't think it would be difficult to look at her, she felt fine, but she had felt fine before too. Nobody had ever figured out why she'd gone into a coma in the first place so they had no idea if it could happen again or if it was a freak accident. Her gaze fell to the ground as she fiddled in the dust with one black paw. Carvedpaw had a crooked way of standing that kept her slanting to the side, her shoulders slightly hunched, and at times like this it just made her look absolutely dejected.
A warm smile spread across his face at her words and he chuckled at her misunderstanding, he supposed after being in a coma for so long and not knowing him it wasn't too strange for her to take it the wrong way. "I was joking Carvedpaw, dont worry, I wouldnt send you away." He was a medicine cat after all, and he did take his duties seriously. "Besides, your mentor may try to barge in if you have to disrupt your training again to come back, and I cant have that now can I?" The short statured tom walked closer to her, he was shorter than even her but he had gotten used to his size. "Now, how are you feeling? And be honest."
"Oh... okay," she murmured, relaxing only slightly. She still worried she was going to waste his time or upset him, but at least he was being friendly now. She ducked her head as he moved closer, averting her gaze slightly to avoid his. Carvedpaw didn't like eye contact, she often felt like cats were always staring at her to begin with, and looking into their eyes only confirmed that fear. "Yeah, my mentor might get a little upset," she admitted, swallowing hard. "I just starting training, I don't want to upset anyone."
Lambpaw paused for a moment, sensing her unease as he approached and the way she averted her eyes from him. "Carvedpaw, your health and well being are important, I know you have some catching up to do and you dont want to disappoint anyone, but things would be much worse if for some reason you missed a check up and fell I'll again." There was warmth in his voice even though his tone was stern, letting out a wistful sigh he shook out his curly pelt and turned to pad further into the den. "Come on then, sit down over here so I can have a look at you."
He had been made medicine cat apprentice a short time before Carvedpaw had woken up from her mysterious coma and because of that had spent a lot of time helping Tealeaves to look after her as she slept, as well as learning what would need to be done once she awoke.
Her ears flattened slightly. He was right, and she knew she should listen to him... but he wasn't a warrior apprentice. How could he understand the pressure of trying to catch up to the other cats who had spent their early lives preparing to hunt and fight? While they played and got used to prey scents she'd been in the medicine cat's den and she struggled with such basic tasks she worried her mentor thought she'd never be a proper apprentice. She had to work extra hard to prove herself, and she didn't want to waste any time, even if she was worried about her health too.
"Okay," she murmured, her tail dragging as she obediently crept after him into the den. "I don't want to be ill again, but I feel fine, really. I'm just a little tired." Carvedpaw shrugged. She had been staying up late trying to practice, so that didn't surprise her.
"Have you not been sleeping well?" He turned to face her, his muddy grey eyes scanning over her briefly. She did look a bit tired now that he was able to get a closer look, curious. The young tom stepped closer and placed his ear gently on Carvedpaws chest to listen to the rythym of her breathing. "Try and stay relaxed and take a deep breath for me please."
"I've been sleeping fine," she promised him, "I don't even dream." Her paws shifted, unsure how much she should tell the medicine cat. They were supposed to know everything, right? But was she going to get in trouble? She took a deep breath for him when he asked, and then let it out. "I've been staying up late most nights. I-I know I shouldn't, but I'm trying to catch up to my siblings. Beetlepaw knows so much already! And I'm trying to make my parents proud. And my mentor. And I... nevermind," she hastened, dropping her soft gaze away from his. She didn't want to admit she was afraid.
