Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Fortune's paws stung from pulling away at the bramble, and blood beaded on his cracked pads and dried spots in his fur. He was wrapped up in the long tendrils of the plant where it had fallen and blocked part of the tunnel in the flood. The wet dirt was finally dried and stable enough to begin digging away at the tunnel, and he was glad for the work, but it was difficult labor. He snagged the stem in his teeth as he ducked his head outside of it, braced his paws between two thorn and snapped off the long piece. It would be an ordeal to take all this back to the surface, forget untangling it to begin with. His father would have disapproved of him wasting his time, but he had to do something to help out.
As the black-furred mercenary pulled away the branch he turned to cast it aside and tripped over his own paws. With a yip of surprise he tumbled to the ground and landed on top of the bramble with a groan as it dug into his fur.

Another, more annoyed groan sounded from underneath the black mercenary. "Hey, you big, clumsy furball! Get off of me." The voice was younger and full of sass. That being known, there was only one cadet it could be, Rose. She probably should have been more respectful, but being the daughter of the former commander and devout follower of Kaisra's, she had an elevated view of herself.
"Huh? Oh, sorry there!" His eyes widened, and the black tom scrambled to his paws to get off her. He managed to push himself halfway up before the brambles tugged at his elbow and, unbalanced, he collapsed on top of her again. "Sorry- sorry, really," he mumbled beneath his breath. He rose again, more carefully this time.

Cadet Rose let out an annoyed huff and helped him to his paws by pushing him off with her own hind legs. "Geez, tenderfoot." She huffed and rose to her own paws, shaking away scraps of dirt and leaves from her thick black coat. "What in the world were you doing anyways other than trying to squash every living being out here?" Her eyes narrowed as she looked up at him for answers.
He managed to regain his paws but his back leg was still hopelessly lost in the tangle and burrs clung to his dark fur. "I was trying to clear the tunnel so we can walk through it," he told her, gesturing with his tail a few tail-lengths away, where the blockage was looking far less imposing without the bush in it.

"Ah, I see now." The fluffy cat watched him struggle for a few more moments before finally sighing. "Here, let me get that before you break something." She grasped at the brambles carefully, making sure to not get them tangled in her own coat and attempted to remove them. However, her plan backfired and she ended up getting her neck fur caught in the mess. "Great." She tried to pull away, but only ended up pulling his leg with it.
"Oh! Thanks," he exclaimed gratefully, stretching out his leg helpfully so she could work on it. At her 'great' he brightened, thinking she had figured it out, and hopped forward just as she pulled away. His legs pulled away and Fortune fell hard to the ground, his back leg kicking toward her face. "Oof."

"Argh. Why is this so annoying?" She made a few more attempts to free her fur, sort of dragging him across the ground as she did so, before finally the brambles broke away from both of them. Cadet Rose rubbed a paw on her cheek where he accidentally kicked her and grunted. "Squished and kicked in the face. Beautiful."
Hopelessly tangled, he could only watch and hope she figured it out herself. When the bramble broke the grip on his leg loosened and finally he could roll away, shake it off, and stand up unencumbered. "Thanks, Cadet Rose! I don't know what I'd do without you," he told her gratefully. "Sorry about the kick..."

"You're...welcome, I guess." She responded with a snobbish tone. "It really wasn't that big of a deal. Well, I guess I'm here and covered in dirt now. Do you need help?"
Fortune's ears lowered. He still felt rotten for getting her involved in this. "Well," he hesitated, "I could use some extra paws... but I've already caused enough trouble for you, I don't want to bother you any longer."

Cadet Rose grimaced as she looked back to the bramble. You could see bits of clumped fur in it's tendrils, serving as a reminder of the recent awkward events. She let out a sigh and poked at it with her paw. "I guess, but how are we going to do that without getting all tangled again?"
The ebony tom shifted closer and prodded it experimentally. The bramble didn't seem that dangerous, just an annoying hazard, so as long as they were careful they should be fine. He glanced back at her, thinking, absently continuing to nudge the bramble. "Well, maybe we can just tangle ourselves in it and drag it out of the tunnel? I wonder if--" The bramble swayed beneath his paw and he jumped with a small yip of fear.
