He'd been brought into the tunnels by the flood, and the Chaman was insistent on nursing him back to health. They told him he'd be free to go as soon as he was healthy, but he felt trapped. The large tom had not stayed in one place for as long as he could remember and he hated the feeling of the tunnels pressing in around his large form, of being isolated in one place, like a prisoner. He was the captor, the king, nothing else. So when he got his chance, he ran.
It had been a little over an hour. They must be looking for him now. Vigilante lingered at the split in the tunnel, desperately glancing between the two directions. Which way would lead him to the surface, and which would drag him back into the darkness? He was hopelessly lost and it was giving him a massive headache. His body still protested his every moment, the world swimming in a constant reminder he was not okay yet, but he ignored it as he stumbled on down the fork to the left. The rogue growled as he marched onward, down the tunnel, his breathing hitching as the walls began to narrow around him. His hopes it led to safety disappeared as he turned the corner and he saw the way ahead was blocked. No, no, he couldn't be stuck here any longer, he was losing his mind....

"You've got to be kidding me."
Her voice would be familiar to him. It was sharp and full of disgust, and maybe a little something more. Each one of her ribs poked out, revealing a skinny frame. Ice blue eyes burned as the oh-so-familiar tom entered her sights.
"What's wrong, buddy. You lost?" Voracity snickered from the shadows of the tunnels. "Be careful, they might find you soon." Her purr was thick with venom as she continued to taunt him. Her last memory of Vigilante was him standing above that poor tom she had taken for a mate for revenge. She guessed she deserved it but anger still fueled her sharp tongue.
He ground to a halt, his claws digging into the dirt as he took slow, shuddering breaths. He was not going to panic in front of her. Kings were above such behavior, they didn't feel fear, even when they already buried in their grave beneath the earth where the sun didn't shine, especially when she was there. He found her with his own icy gaze, chin lifted like he was unfazed as ever, then let out a snort. It was dismissive, an excuse to let his gaze wander again, and dart furtively over the rocks ahead.
"Figures you'd end up here. The weak always find safety in numbers... and where better to hide beneath the earth, like a scared hare? Pathetic." His lip curled in the beginning of a sneer. Vigilante didn't look at her again, turning his back deliberately to ignore her as he searched for his escape.

"Ah, what a funny predicament we have here." Voracity responded icily, proud to have the upper paw on him for once. "You see, I know these tunnels like the back of my paw. Instead of tumbling into the rat's grasps like a wounded pigeon, I have been exploring these parts of the tunnels since Absum Lux's pitiful fall." She had refused to go with the others and join Primal Instinct. That Funk character seemed like too much trouble for her to deal with. It's not like her children would miss her anyways. The black feline rose to her paws and flicked her tail under his chin. "Follow me if you want to find your way out of here." She meowed silkily then began to pad off into the darkness of one of the side caves. "You better hurry, I overheard one of those big brutes earlier and they don't seem too pleased with your disappearance."
"I can handle a couple of brutes," he scoffed, chin raised defensively at the insult. Vigilante never did tolerate threats to his pride well, especially when he was in a vulnerable state as this... but even he was not so daft to think he could stand against the Regime's cats for long. Even if he could take one on at his strongest (it was more doubtful than he'd admit) in this state, and with the threat of more coming, he wouldn't stand a chance. His lips pursed, but not seeing any obvious escape routes ahead of him, he had to trust her. This had to be the one of the worst things that had ever happened to him, he concluded with a sigh as he turned and stalked after her.
"I forgot they culled the group you used to run with. Not that I'm surprised," his voice was cold and sly, thinking of the cat she'd replaced him with, "given how poor your security was. Why, anyone could have walked in and killed any one of you..."

Pleased that he followed her, but furious at his snarky comment, Voracity whipped her skinny tail across his face. "Say what you'd like, but I got a meal everyday and cats to use for personal gain." She retorted, suddenly veering to the right. She silently slipped between a crack in the tunnels that was almost hidden and wouldn't have been noticed by anyone simply passing by. "These cats wonder how their young escape so easily." She commented with a huff. "They should really venture back here and patch some of these up. Luckily for you, they aren't that intelligent." Her eyes flashed with amusement at her own words before she turned to go down another tunnel. "Soo... if you can handle a couple of brutes, how did you get all cooped up in a pile of flowers with a little cat watching over you?" Voracity purred, turning her bright blues on him once more. She had done a bit of spying after hearing his name mentioned in the tunnels while she hid from one of the patrols. Honestly, she was pretty lucky she hadn't been caught, but she blended in a bit with some of the other washed-up rogues with her wiry, malnourished frame.
His lip curled as her tail whipped across his face and he flexed his claws, on the verge of making a swipe at it. She had grown too confident for his liking, though she'd always been a thorn in his side, even when they were young. He chose to ignore her blatant disrespect but next time he wouldn't let her off so easily. The crack was a bit more of a squeeze for him and it wounded his dignity to try and fit in; at least his fur compressed to his sides well so he could eventually slip through. "I didn't expect the floods," he replied curtly. "I ended up trapped down here and they've been keeping an eye on me since. I thought about fighting my way out... but I thought it a waste to kill so many useless cats."

Voracity let out a grunt, annoyed that she felt the same way about the floods. They had already been through one before. How did they not notice this one coming? Why was it that the two of them always ended up together due to a flood? Now THAT was annoying. "Ah, I see, of course." She responded dryly, not believing one bit that he would have made it out of there alive if he tried fighting. Those tunnel cats could be daft, but she knew they were tough and had the advantage of having adjusted eyes when it came to the darkness of the tunnels. "So, what are you going to do after I lead you out of here?" She asked with a suspicious glance back at him. "Plan on running off, as per usual." She had gotten used to him leaving her. Bjorn's purpose in her life had been to bring back Vigilante, yet he didn't stay.
Vigilante shrugged. "I expect my nest is quite destroyed. If the flood didn't get to it, the foxes likely did. I'll have to move and rebuild." Normally that wouldn't be such a bad prospect. He'd always been a little bit of a vagabond. Now, though, he almost sounded tired. Had a hint of grey begun to creep over his muzzle? Did his whiskers droop more than they had before? Age had been kind to him, but inevitably he was growing older, and he was growing tired of this life. He knew nothing else and there was no place for him, but he wished he could have a nest to return to that wasn't in need of a rebuild. He shifted against the wall, glancing away from her to hide the exhaustion in his eyes.
"Better than living here with friends like yours."

"Hmph." She whisked around another corner of the tunnels as she grunted in response. "Say what you will, but I was fed with minimal effort on my part and had a place to keep those kits." Her head turned to glare at him for one moment, making sure he was keeping up. Voracity had also started showing signs of age. Her thin muzzle was rimmed with silver furs and there was more of a stiff awkwardness in her gait. No one in Absum Lux dared to question her, though. She had always made it a point to appear more in shape than she truly was. It wasn't a joy living with that ragtag group of felines, but it worked.
His muzzle wrinkled disdainfully. "Don't you have any honor?" he asked with a shake of his head. "Letting other cats hunt and do you work is no way to leave. You're always been lazy, Voracity, but I thought you might have the pride to take care of yourself." He may he on his own, but at least he was taking care of himself, living off the land and taking no more than he could. If he couldn't look after himself he no longer deserved to live, and nature would feed him to his prey.
