Her movements were still stiff. She was learning, like a new apprentice. Though this apprentice hadn't adapted to the nocturnal schedule, so really like another cat learning to navigate in true darkness. Every now and then, a spike of fear shot through her when she brushed up against something. A part of her worried that they would reach out and grab her. It eased with each every step she took. Things became clearer when they also remained so blurry, but she was sure she was close to him now.

Praline felt a rush of pride. She actually made it and didn't have a heart attack in the middle of it. When the blindfold came off, the world cleared up. Almost too quickly, a wave of vertigo washed over her. "Ugh. I'm gonna be sick." Answering quietly. she lowered her head, needing that moment to let her eyes catch up with the rest of her. "Thanks..." When nothing came to mind, her gaze lifted back to meet his', "Uh, I never caught your name. My current name is Praline, but who knows when that will change."

She felt the world shift around her. Though her darting gaze was not helping as she almost tried to look anywhere else other than at Umbrahound. "I suppose so." Her eyes finally rested on her paws, "Even with the name change, I don't know if I'll ever fit in here. I joined Soaringstar's family, but it still feels like I'm an outsider. A wasp in a beehive or something of that effect."
Umbrahound didn't answer at first. He knew how she felt. "Umbrahound isnt my real name" he admitted at last. It was a secret he kept from just about everyone. Only his siblings ever knew that secret.

She said too much. She must have. That was why he fell silent. Just wedged a further gap, she figured. That was how it always went, no matter how authentic she was. Deriding herself, her head snapped up when he spoke again. "... it's not?" Praline asked quietly, now only crickets chirping in her mind.
He shook his head. "Nope. I was not born Nightclan. During the great earth shake, a tree shook loose and landed on my mother and killed her. My siblings and I were small and alone out in the forest. Squirrelleap isn't my real father either. I see him as my father but it was him and Echomelody - Echopaw at the time - that found us and took us in. I was young so it wasn't super difficult to learn how to be a Nightclan cat but it was still different from how I was raised at the beginning of my life." He hoped his story would give her encouragement to keep trying.

She was somewhat encouraged, more honored to have been given such secret knowledge. But she knew their circumstances were different. He was a little and hopeful kit with siblings. She was a bitter and alone adult. He was brought in, she was found here and would have kicked them out if there was any chance of her winning against a whole clan. Praline would have to work harder, even after getting brought into a family. Nowhere felt natural for her yet, she'd have to keep searching. "Thanks Umbrahound. That helps."
He gave her a smile. One he didn't often give. It was rather warm and gave off a pleasurable vibe. "Anytime. What brought you to Nightclan anyway?" He asked casually.

Praline felt her pulse jump as he smiled at her and cursed herself. Not everything needed to be read like that. It was a friendly smile, she should stop jumping to conclusions. "I didn't come to Nightclan, they came to me. I lived here for a short time before Nightclan moved here. I've been alone for so long, I was curious about what living in a group would be like. So that's why I joined."
"Oh. Well, it's good to have you here. I know you said it's a struggle getting used to the dark but how do you feel about being part of a clan?" He asked, sitting and curling his tail neatly around his paws.

Praline fiddled with the tip of her tail as she thought, absent-mindedly sucking on her long fangs. It was some comfort, like twoleg kits sucking their thumbs, but it also reminded her of how long they really were. The action was quick, and she met Umbrahound's gaze again. "I do like it. It's nice to know someone has your back and would, say, pull you out of a ditch when you fall in one."
Umbrahound twitched his whiskers in amusement as she implied how he had pulled her out of a hole. "Well, that's just what we do. We help each other. Well...most of us do, anyway." He shrugged, thinking back on some of the cats who dont live their lives like an honorable warrior. Although Umbrahound was a grump at times, he was a fine warrior. Strong and powerful but had the gentleness of a mothering queen and the nobility of an honorable warrior. "Dont worry, though. You'll get the hang of things."

He sure was preachy for one she was pretty sure was younger than her. Almost too motherly, even when he was just teaching someone new how to walk through the night. Still, Praline appreciated it. Starclan knew she didn't have the patience or the motherly instinct to do anything like that. But she was honest to a fault and loyal till she died, so that was good enough for her. "Oh I'm sure. We should probably get back to hunting or patrolling though."

"Well, I guess we should hunt. Make this practice worth it." Only when standing still did Praline realize how cold this night was. Guess she should have expected so from a late autumn - early winter night but still. "Brr, let's go." Shivering a little, she started walking in no specific direction.

"Let's see..." Well she couldn't really. Where were they really? Falling in the ditch and this training had left her backward and not even sure where the pair were anymore. All familiar landmarks were shrouded by the too tall trees and the darkness around them.
