[[ i thought we could go ahead and get this going Consuela ]]
Earlybloom had a pupil. The young witch was very excited about it, her life had changed so fast. She hadn't been WinterClan's witch for long but already loved it and now she'd be able to train a pupil as well. Life, for her, was perfect. Despite the uncertainty in the clan she knew medicine never changed and that she would always be needed. There would always be a place for her and her pupil.
Today she would begin training Chestnutpaw, sure they would be close friends shortly, she already knew of the young cat. Their temperaments were much the same and Chestnutpaw certainly seemed like a bright, capable cat. The thought made her purr as she slid out of her den and sat down, waiting for the young cat to meet her.
The young speckled she-cat blinked as a ray of early morning light broke through the den. Her pale green eyes blinked slowly as she readjusted to the familiar world around her. Her eyes glazed around the room, taking in the other sleeping bodies scattered throughout, their small bodies rising slowly as they inhaled and exhaled, lost in their own dream lands. Today was the day. The mental reminder had Chestnutpaw smiling widely as she raised her head slowly, her pale green orbs taking in the view of the camp from where she laid. In a careful and slow movement, the young she-cat rose to her paws, careful not to wake the others in the den. Once she was in the clear, her pace quicken with excitement, her vision targeting the form of a cat that sat outside the witch's den. And just like that, her life was finally beginning. All her dreams of being a witch, all the taunting from her clan mates, all the doubts, everything led up to this moment.
"Good morning Earlybloom." Chestnutpaw spoke up cheerfully, her tone softer than usual as she was careful not to be too loud, despite no other cats being around. Her round eyes were big and bright as they took in her new mentor "I am really honored to start training with you!" She breathed, her smile wide and bright as she sat down eagerly at her mentor's paws.

"Good morning, Chestnutpaw," Earlybloom returned, with a friendly flick of her tail. "I'm very excited to have you as a pupil. We will eat something before we begin." The she-cat stood and led Chestnutpaw to the fresh-kill pile, gazing down at the limp creatures without much interest. She didn't particularly enjoy prey that had been left overnight but still grabbed a sparrow for herself before letting Chestnutpaw pick something. Her mouth full of feathers she meowed, "we will eat in the den and discuss your training."
She padded nimbly across camp and slid back into the witch's den. Setting the bird down she arranged herself in the small clearing, stretching out with the bird between her paws. Earlybloom was so excited that her tail couldn't stop flicking slightly. This was an important day for both cats and she intended to do her best to begin Chestnutpaw's important training.
Chestnutpaw followed closely behind the Witch's trail, her pale green eyes bright with determination. The young she-cat's legs quivered slightly as they made their way towards the fresh kill pile. Chestnutpaw could tell if it was the rush of excitement, the morning chill, nerves or a lack of food in her system, but regardless, she manage to stand tall alongside her new mentor. With no hesitation, the she-cat grabbed the first kill nearest to her, a rather cold and stiff vole, but she didn't care. Everything in her itched to finish the meal as soon as she could to start her training. Anyone looking in would have thought the emotions felt by the she-cat was too much, but the opportunity mean't more to Chestnutpaw than anyone could imagine. Growing up in Winterclan, she was the runt of the litter, with little to no strength or will to fight compared to all her other littermates. Everything changed when Chestnutpaw began to notice the Witches and their work. Something in it called to her, charmed her curiosity. She got heckle from her litter-mates, taunting her that she would never make it and become the weakest Warrior to shame Winterclan, but she never believed it, because she had hope.
As the two she-cat's made their way to the den, Chestnutpaw could feel the strange feeling melt down to her paws, making them tingle as they stepped into the Witch's den. The powerful mixture of herbal smells hit the she-cat's senses hard, causing her to stop and blink for a couple of moments before plopping down in front of her mentor, dropping the vole quickly and taking a deep inhale of air. The smells, despite being rather strong, brought a sense of comfort and relief to Chestnutpaw. This wasn't a dream, it was real.

Earlybloom watched Chestnutpaw take a deep breath and chuckled, she remembered doing the same when her training started, "I'm glad the smell of herbs appeals to you, some cats hate it. But you will be spending your life in here." She took a bite of her meal and chewed thoughtfully, formulating a plan for their first day together. "I thought we could go over our expectations of each other while we eat, how does that sound?"
The Witch was quite young to be the head Witch and a mentor, having come into her position suddenly and without much guidance, but she was determined to do right by Chestnutpaw. By the time her pupil earned her name and took over, Earlybloom will have molded her into an even better Witch than she was. That was what mentors did, they passed on their skills until their pupils could surpass them.
"Firstly, I'm glad to have you as my Pupil, I truly see you becoming a quite capable Witch in your time. I was wondering what you were most nervous for, because I would like to make sure you're comfortable in your new role."
[Sorry for the long wait! I appreciate your patience with me! ;o;]
Chestnutpaw listened intently, her green eyes wide with excitement as she took in the Witch. "Oh yes, yes that sounds good!" She agreed, taking a quick bite of her vole without ever taking her eyes off the she-cat before her, overtly fearful of missing one second of this magical moment.
Chestnutpaw's bright smile lit her her already bright expression as she took in her mentor's words. "I am very happy to be your pupil too!" she quipped up, her sweet voice only rising high with excitement, but the serious question brought the young cat's emotions down as she took a few moments to think heavily on what to say. "To be honest," she spoke up, her voice rather somber compared to her previous expression "I don't want to make a mistake." she admitted rather quietly as she contemplated the idea more in her head. "I know we all make mistakes but I don't want to, I'm scared to." She looked up at Earlybloom, concern evident in the bright pair of pale green eyes. "I want to learn everything I can to make sure I can truly help everyone in the best way I can."

[[ it's totally fine! ]]
Earlybloom understood that fear well. Even with simple things like removing thorns, the fear of making a mistake often persisted. Though that was normal, and probably for the best, Earlybloom didn't want this young cat feeling anxious about it. "You're right, everyone makes mistakes. It's as inevitable as the seasons. However, you can learn from them. And remember, your clanmates trust you. They will keep trusting you after your first mistakes and you hundredth. Because you're going to learn from each mistake and I will right here with you."
The gray and white she-cat took another bite and swallowed before continuing, "you're a smart cat, I can tell. But you aren't a perfect cat. Remember that and don't begrudge yourself the learning experience of making mistakes." Her words my not help even the slightest bit, but it was worth a shot to try and set her pupil's mind at ease.
The Pupil's eyes fell as she absorbed the Witch's words. The heaviness of the perspective caused the young Pupil's stomach to twist. The clan would rely on her one day, without Earlybloom and frankly that thought scared her, more she wanted to let be known, but the she-cat's words gave her a sense of peace and clarity on the journey ahead. With the trust of her clan, she grew faith in herself and her abilities.
Chestnutpaw looked back up at her mentor with a bright smile "I think I understand what you are saying Earlybloom." She meowed quietly, looking back down at her vole with a new look of determination "I'll work hard!" She took another bite of her vole as another wave a excitement rippled through her small body.
"How did you feel when you first started your training?" Chestnutpaw spoke out curiously, surprisingly even herself by the sudden forwardness. She guessed that the mixture of excitement and faith gave her confidence a boost enough to manage to spit out a rather personal question before her mind could realize what she was doing. At this point it was too late to take it back, so the pupil laid patiently, looking up at her mentor with an inquisitive yet anxious look.

"I know you will, Chestnutpaw. You were promoted because we saw something special about you," Earlybloom promised. She believed that Chestnutpaw would work hard and learn enough to one day even surpass her. That was her wish for this young cat.
Earlybloom took another bite of her meal as she thought about the question, memories swimming in her eyes. "Well, I didn't have a normal promotion. I was chosen because I was in the right place at the right time. Our former Witch and Pupil vanished and we needed someone. They all seemed to settle on me. I was," she sighed sadly, "a sorry promise of a soldier. Even as a student they knew I wouldn't really measure up to the strength of my peers. So, I was given this position. I was trained by other clan's medicine cats and even StarClan, but I never had a true mentor. I was mostly afraid, but I quickly grew to love it."
The declaration made the young apprentice's face glow. Since as long as she could remember, there was so much ridicule in her stunted size and weak demeanor. She was always taunted and pushed around by the other kits. Not even the grown cats could confidently tell her she could be a great warrior. It was all so discouraging until she learned about the Witches and their responsibilities. It was like a bulb went off in her mind, heart and soul and she knew that was her destiny. It was a relief and awe to hear someone else other than herself believe the same too...
Chestnutpaw listened on, her already wide eyes widening with intrigue as Earlybloom recounted her tale. "Wow... you went through all that?" She asked in visible shock. No one had ever talked about Earlybloom's history. All the cats only praised her skills and attitude. "I am really learning from the best aren't I?!" She quietly gushed, her pale green eyes shinning with admiration as she leaned over her morsel, forgetting the remainder of her fresh kill all together as she took in her mentor in a different, much grander light.

Chestnutpaw seemed to see something heroic in Earlybloom's tale, but the Witch herself felt a great deal of shame about her life as a student. However, the fact that Chestnutpaw seemingly saw strength in her made Earlybloom's heart soar. Earlybloom knew there had been better Witches than she, despite her flash of pride at Chestnutpaw's words. With a soft, high laugh Earlybloom shook her head, "certainly not, Chestnutpaw. I'm only ordinary, but you could be extraordinary. That is my vision for you. I want WinterClan to have the best Witch in all the clans, and that will be you. Of that I have little doubt. StarClan has given me a promise."
