Stormsurge did like Thistlescar. She knew that, but would never admit it to the tom. They were mates, they had children, and Stormsurge almost never saw him. Not that he hadn't tried. Stormsurge had given birth quietly, without telling him, and he'd only just met their kits. She'd informed him of their names, of the rules, and had since avoided him. However, there was a soft spot in her heart for him. Beyond his attractiveness and bloodlines she'd liked his personality. Even a cat as cold as Stormsurge wasn't immune to the charms of a tom.
Her thoughts were with him this morning as she slid out of the nursery for a meal before waking the brats up. Their kits were strong, growing fast, and would one day be extremely valuable to their clan. Thistlescar should be proud of their accomplishment, but she hadn't thought to ask him how he felt about them.
Odd relationships appeared to be a common occurrence among his family members. His sister Valleystar had multiple litters stemming from unknown toms. He believed his nephew Ghoulstar had fathered a few litters, but it had surprised Thistlescar when Stormsurge had notified him that he was a father after the kits were born. He had seen them once, but only briefly and it was to learn their names and the ground rules set by Stormsurge. He had been dropping off prey on the fresh kill pile when he saw Stormsurge exit the nursery.

As if summoned Thistlescar appeared in front of her, dropping off his catch. Stormsurge felt a very unwelcome prickle of nervousness in her heart but quickly squashed it. They had kits together, what was there to be nervous about? So, chin raised, the gray she-cat padded forward with confidence, silently thankful she'd groomed her pelt to a glossy smoothness when she woke up this morning. Selecting one of the pieces of prey her... mate? had set down, she placed it at her paws before speaking, "good morning, Thistlescar." It sounded cold, so she added, "you did well hunting this morning, I hope Polarkit or Tundrakit grow up to have your skills."
Aurorakit showed promise as well, but her other two children were already disappointments to her.
