[[ she is gonna be so mad I can't wait ]]
Arctickit wasn't following. The insubordination of her oldest kit hadn't escaped her notice. With an angry last of her tail she paused and scooped the sleeping kit up, leading the rest out. She set her oldest down and addressed Northkit, "maybe later. For now we will be learning basic obedience." Gazing intently at her kits she began, "do you remember what I told you yesterday about your birth order? Who is the oldest of you?"
Tundrakit remembered he was the youngest, but not really anything else. He frowned, "um.... is... Northkit the oldest? Or Aurorakit?"
"Neither," she replied dismissively. "Try again, kits."
Northkit stood straight but was sure to keep her face from fully facing where the sound of her mothers voice was coming from. "Arctickit is the oldest, right?"
Arctickit gave out a squeak of surprise. He opened his eyes groggily as Stormsurge carried him out of the den and dropped him beside his siblings. He dropped his head, groggy from being suddenly awoken. He leaned against Northkit, his tail twitching slowly as he watched his mother form sounds with her mouth. He heard none of them, of course, so he obviously didn’t answer. He just stared at the cat quietly, eyes droopy.

Stormsurge nodded, "yes, Arctickit is oldest." She looked at her oldest kit, sleepily leaning against Northkit and snapped, "Arctickit! Who is second born?" She glared at her son, tail lashing.
Tundrakit nervously ducked his head, glad her anger wasn't directed at him.
Northkits ears went back when her mother snapped loudly at Arctickit, she pressed herself against him placing her feathery tail on his back. She didn't understand why Stormsurge was being so harsh, but she knew she didn't like it.
The tom saw the anger on her face, his ears flicking back in confusion. He pressed closer to his sister, his head ducking. Why did her face twist that way? Why did she seem upset? He wished he knew how to tell. His lips pressed together, and he took comfort in Northkit’s touch, looking to her with wide eyes that seemed to beg for help.

Tundrakit felt his fur fluff up indignantly when Stormsurge's anger furthered, he stepped forward when she stalked closer to his brother. "He never answers, he just can't talk yet probably!"
Stormsurge froze, fur fluffed and a hiss in her throat, and looked at Tundrakit. With a sinking feeling, she turned back to Arctickit. "Arctickit, come here right now." She sat down, not giving him any hints as to what she expected from him. Please don't let this be happening, she thought.
Northkit felt panic settle in her belly as their mom ordered Arctickit to her, he never responded. The fluffy she-cat quickly lowered her tail from her brothers back and slowly tapped it to his side, hoping the action was hidden enough that Stormsurge wouldnt notice it.
Arctickit flocked his ears back up as he watched Tundrakit step forward. His eyes moved again to Stormsurge, but he was unsure what she wanted from him. Feeling the tap of Northkit’s tail, he blinked a few times. Remembering the anger and rage that had shown on Stormsurge’s face He wondered if his sister was trying to keep that from happening again? He began to feel frustrated as he tried to figure out what they wanted from him. Arctickit felt his claws flex on the ground, before he took a few hesitant steps forward. Northkit was trying to help, he was sure of it, but he was only confused.

That was enough for Stormsurge. Her son was deaf. How could this have happened?! Trying very hard not to scream, she began pacing. How could her son be deaf?! They were meant to be assets to the clan. But deaf cats, in her opinion, were useless. Swinging her head around, she glared at the white kit. She should have known, it wasn't uncommon for white cats with blue eyes to be deaf. But she'd expected more from kits of her bloodline. "Can the rest of you hear me? Can you all see and smell things around you?"
Tundrakit nodded uncertainly, padding up to Arctickit and pressing into him in a comforting manner. Why was Stormsurge so angry? It wasn't his brother's fault, whatever was wrong.
The anger radiating off of Stormsurge sent a shiver down Northkits spine, she walked the few steps forward until she felt Arctickit at her side once more, pressing against his side as Tundrakit did the same from the other. "Its okay." She whispered even though she knew he would not hear it.
Stormsurges question made her flinch, she didn't want her to know, she couldn't know, not after how she reacted to her brother being deaf. Northkit tried to make herself relax, turning her face away from her mother.

Stormsurge watched Northkit and Tundrakit comfort Arctickit and saw Northkit flinch. An icy feeling crept through her and she spoke very, very softly, "Northkit. Is there anything you need to tell me?"
Tundrakit looked at his brother nervously, he knew Northkit was different too. Polarkit, Aurorakit, and he were the only three kits that didn't seem to have anything hindering them, but he knew Northkit could hear and talk just fine.
Northkit instinctively turned her heard toward her mothers voice, soft as it was she could hear the anger hiding beneath the words she spoke. "No..." it was uncertain but she had to try. "I just dont like how angry you are, We didn't do anything wrong." Her voice was unsteady as she looked in Stormsurges direction, her eyes not quite on the queen but seemingly gazing passed her.

Stormsurge narrowed her eyes, ignoring the kit's words. She didn't have to justify her feelings to her children. "Northkit," her voice was still soft, yet there was a dangerous edge. "I'm not raising a litter of liars. If you are lying to me, that's a disgrace to me, yourself, and WinterClan. So I'll give you one more chance: is there something you wish to tell me?"
"I'm not lying, there isnt anything I want to tell you." The she-cat spoke softly lowering her eyes a little, she was telling the truth. She in fact did not want to tell her mom that she couldn't see anything but darkness, if she played it right she may be able to get by using her other senses.

Tundrakit leaned over Arctickit and whispered frantically, "just tell her, Northkit, if she finds out later you'll be crowfood!"
Stormsurge continued glaring at the three of her kits that seemed to be her problem children. "We'll have to figure out Arctickit's training," she meowed, mostly to herself. "He will be useful to WinterClan, somehow."
Northkit turned her blind eyes to Tundrakit as he whispered to her. "Be quiet, what she doesnt know wont hurt her. I'll figure this out." She whispered softly back to her brother, she wouldnt get her siblings involved in her problem, she would just have to focus. She did not want to be looked at differently, and she refused to let het mother push her around because she couldn't see.
Arctickit didn’t know he was different from the others. Not until now, when they began interacting with one another. He usually just played and ate, but slowly his mind began to realize that the others interacted different than him. They moved their mouths a lot, and seemed to share something.
He turned his blue eyes to Stormsurge, his whiskers twitching curiously, but also timidly.
(I plan to have Polarkit be a suck up. Will even tattle on his siblings if it means he can stay in mom's good graces. A true momma's boy, and perfect little soldier that does whatever she wants.)
Polarkit stayed out of the way, he knew he didn't want to be on their mother's warpath anymore than the rest of them. But he also didn't understand why Northkit wouldn't just speak up. Mother was mother, she'd find a use for them. Like the loyal soldier he was, the tom turned to his mother with his chest puffed out. "I've got nothin' wrong momma. I'll make a great asset to WinterClan!" He'd do anything to please his mother, anything to be perfect in her eyes. He could see what not being perfect was and didn't want to be roped in with Northkit or Artickit.

[ love it ]
Stormsurge's gaze flickered between each kit a moment before settling on Polarkit. This was a kit who listened to his mother, his superior. "Polarkit," she meowed, testing him, "do you know your birth order?"
Tundrakit frowned at Northkit and sat down, still leaning into Arctickit. He felt a shift in power. A rift. Stormsurge's voice lost it's venom when speaking to Polarkit. Tundrakit was also healthy but yet his mother took no interest in him. Was it because he was close to Arctickit and Northkit? Self-consciously, he leaned away from his brother.
