Dawnmemories padded into camp with a mouse and a sparrow, tail high. She was finally fully recovered from her wounds she'd gotten from her fight with three foxes. Her and Sootstep had both come out of it with multiple injuries and both cats were only now getting back into the swing of regular duties. Her left ear was badly scarred and missing the top third, but she kinda liked it now. Other than that the dark red she-cat had escaped with injuries that hadn't scarred.
She placed her catch on the freshkill pile and took a small shrew for herself, retreating a few rabbit lengths to quickly eat her meal before going back out. Dawnmemories was full of energy and ready to pay her clan back for their support while she was healing. As she ate she couldn't help but slyly look around camp, looking for Sootstep, but he must have been on patrol. She wasn't sure if that was a relief to her or a sadness.
Earthcascade had not been far behind the she-cat, entering camp just as she was settling to eat her meal. He had been out hunting solo as a means to pass the time before his patrol was due to head out. The tom made his way to the freshkill pile and dropped the shrew and mouse he had captured, picking up the sparrow that had just recently been added by Dawnmemories for himself, turning with his meal he spotted the she-cat and trotted over to join her. "Have you lost something?" He asked with a smile as he set the sparrow down at his paws, turning his gaze to follow hers around camp.

Dawnmemories jumped involuntarily before looking at her clanmate sheepishly, "oh, um, nope. Just looking." Earthcascade. She knew of him but Dawnmemories was the first to admit that she hadn't recently been the most social of all the cats. Sootstep had taken most of her attention since they were apprentices, their rivalry only recently beginning to change into some sort of romantic relationship. She was pleasantly surprised to be joined for lunch and tried to focus her attention on her companion, "did you just get back from hunting?"
The long legged tom settled himself beside the she-cat leaving a decent space between them as he took a bite of his meal, taking in her words before he spoke. "Yea, I decided to hunt until it's time for my patrol to head out but it seems i've still got quite some time until then." He glanced sideways at her and gave a friendly smile. "You've healed well from your injuries, I'm glad to see that." He had not thought her or Sootstep would be doing as well as they were but he had held out hope they would recover from the incident.

She nodded, momentarily digging her front claws in the ground when he mentioned the foxes, the incident had traumatized her more than she let on. Only Sootstep was aware of the damage it had done her. "Oh yes," she managed after a moment. "Only the scar on the ear. My tail fur is growing back and my paws are already healed." Her flank still had small scabs under her fur but even that no longer bothered her. "I'm just relieved to be of use to SummerClan again, I'm sorry if you had more patrols while Sootstep and I were confined to camp."
Earthcascade noted the difficulty she had in replying when he brought up the ordeal. "You needn't worry yourself about that, I would take on any extra work if I had to, yalls well being and recovery is most important." His words rang with truth, the selfless tom always put himself last and when needed he took on the extra work around the clan when no one else was willing or able.
"You and Sootstep have spent quite some time together recently." It wasn't a question but an open statement, his blue eyes fell on the she-cat a teasing gleam flashing through them as he gently poked her shoulder with a forepaw.

Dawnmemories appreciate his words and hoped he knew that. "Thank you, Earthcascade."
His next words made her freeze, eyes wide like something had startled her. "Me and Sootstep?" What could she say to that? Her and Sootstep hated each other, didn't they? Every cat knew it. Since kithood the two cats had fought, despite proving themselves a capable team. "That's.... crazy...." what more could she say? They were not mates, neither cat seemed able to decide how they felt about the other. But, in her heart, she belonged with the grumpy tom. There was no question about it, not for her. Quietly, shyly, she meowed, "we fell asleep together under the monster while hiding from the foxes. Haven't spoken much since then... I don't know what to think." The words made her anxious and she took a gulp of her prey to have an excuse to stop talking.
Bellowing laughter echoed out as Earthcascade tried but failed to control his amusement, he lifted a paw ran it across his eyes to remove the water that had formed. "Oh boy, you have nothing to worry about, you just be yourself." He grinned and looked down at his half eaten sparrow. "What do you want to think?" He questioned, already having a slight idea.

Dawnmemories was strangely relieved by his reaction, purring in amusement with him. She liked him, she decided. He was nice and friendly and easy to talk to, the exact opposite of the cat she was falling for. For half a heart beat Dawnmemories wondered why it was she even liked Sootstep, but then Earthcascade's question reached her and she knew she truly was all in for Sootstep, no matter their past issues. "I want to think we are headed in a good direction," she admitted, only slightly reluctantly. "As you probably know, the two of us have a turbulent history. But... something in me is telling me that he is the one for me in spite of that. I just... when I'm around him it inspires me to do better. When those foxes attacked us he was so brave but I was terrified for him. I went from thinking I hated him to knowing.... knowing I needed him, you know? I would have fought 100 foxes by his side in that moment. I still would." But she wouldn't admit to loving him. Oh no, that was much to soon.
Earthcascade sat silently as she spoke, nodding softly in understanding as she opened up to him about her feelings. "Well there you go, if he is as smart as I think he is then you shouldn't have much to worry about Dawnmemories." He knew the two of them had a long standing history, but time and events change people and he could see that was exactly what was happening with the young warriors. "You've been stuck in camp for far too long, would you like to join me for a hunt? I still have plenty of time before i'm needed here."

Finishing her meal in another two quick bites she nodded, standing and stretching, "sure, a hunt sounds nice." She committed his words to memory, grasping to his assurance that her and Sootstep were headed in the right direction. Reassured, she felt suddenly energetic. "Where do you want to try hunting?"
The dark red cat didn't wait for an answer, instead bounding out of camp with her tail waving happily, knowing her friend would catch up.
Earthcascade uncurled his long legs and stood with the she-cat, excited to have a friend to come along. He opened his mouth to speak but before he could get a word out Dawnmemories took off leaving him to follow, a loud purr rumbled in his throat as he ran after her, his longer strides putting him at her side outside of camp quickly. "You're fast, you know that?" He said with a light huff as he trotted next to her.

he's so great i love his character
Dawnmemories laughed, feeling jovial, "I don't run near as often as I'd like." Except for her flight from the foxes, but she wasn't going to let herself dwell on that. Gradually, she slowed down and bumped his shoulder with hers, "so, enough about my love life. Do you have a crush on anyone?" She couldn't recall seeing him mooning over any cat, but she couldn't help but be curious. Besides, he'd been so helpful to her and she wanted to return the favor.
"I will happily run with you whenever you get the urge." He laughed and butted her shoulder back, he enjoyed running and since his legs were so long it was easy for him. The brown and white tom looked around at their surroundings, but at the mention of him having a crush his eyes darted back to her. "Me? A crush, well um... I don't know." He stumbled on his words, his mind conjuring an image of one she-cat in particular. Dovecloud.

"There is someone!" Dawnmemories stopped and stared at him, looking positively thrilled. "Who is it? I wanna know everything!" Earthcascade had proven to be a good friend to her and his advice and kindness meant a lot to her, so she wanted to be able to do that for him. And he was definitely a catch, she wanted to know if the cat he liked deserved him.
"There really isnt much to tell, I mean I have only talked to her a few times. I dont even know if Dovecloud likes me." Earthcascade could feel the heat in his ears as he spoke, his first encounter with Dovecloud had been him literally running into her and after that only a few shared words.

"Dovecloud," she meowed, nodding in an approving manner. She started walking again, slower. "I haven't spoken with her much myself, but she certainly seems like a decent cat." Not that she thought Earthcascade would attract a terrible cat. "I hope everything works out with her." A squirrel ran across their path, stupidly close even for a dumb squirrel, and she gave an excited un-warriorlike squeal and pelted after it, catching up to it and killing within a few fox-lengths.
Earthcascade stood watching the she-cat his ears hot, he had not expected the conversation to turn to him like it had, the tom smiled at her encouraging words as he too hoped that it would work out. As Dawnmemories attention moved to the dumbest squirrel he had ever seen, he let out a sigh, happy that he was no longer the subject of talk. Trotting up to her he looked down at the furry tailed creature and laughed. "I dont think I've ever seen a squirrel quite that dumb, it ran right in front of us!"

Dawnmemories spit the dead squirrel out and shook her head with a small chuckle, "perhaps it was running from another patrol?" Or fox, a nasty voice in her head whispered, though she stubbornly pushed it down and refused to let herself react to the thought. "If only all the prey were this easy! We'd be fat and happy for all of leafbare." She scrapped dirt over the squirrel and looked around, "did you want to head anywhere in particular?"
"The wildflower meadow!" The words burst from his mouth only a moment after her question, loud and brimming with excitement. He had not meant to be so boisterous with his answer but it seems his control was lacking at the moment as his excitement took hold. "Heh, sorry, I just want to see it before all of the flowers start to wilt, with it growing colder I know it wont be long now before the meadow is barren." He lifted a paw to scratch at his head in embarrassment due to his outburst.
