paige.rylee The League had recently felt like a vast lake. Any change in the wind or shift in the moon made the current change, it was shockingly fluid for a merciless body of water. Funk E'tan wouldn't claim to know the entire history of Primal Instinct, or admit he cared, but they went from a group of bloodthirsty killers to a monarchy who killed the weakest kit and then to whatever Funk was leading. He considered them more of a band of misfits more than anything else. Misfits that at least knew how to shank you in an alleyway and would if they could. Conveniently, he also liked trapping others in corners and making them do his bidding so really, if the shoe fits, he may as well walk in it.
That was cool and all, but there were always the few... not evil cats in the League that he had to watch get broken down. His sister Reprise, though, seemed to be trying to revolutionize the League from the inside out. And while this was the home to several revolutionaries, most were comfortable in a group that accepted them no matter how awful they were. So attempting to give morals to everyone, was most likely not going well. It helped that Reprise now had Hayate-kun to train and keep her away from the masses, plus there had been something off about his daughter so he didn't want to give the vulnerable she-cat to someone he didn't trust.
But he couldn't dissuade her no matter how much he wanted, or tried to. So, the next best thing was, well, catching up. If he had all the pieces, maybe he could put a comprehensive picture together. The little park in town was where he asked her to meet him, just to walk and talk despite him currently hiding under a bench so twolegs only waved at him.

The past few moons of Reprise's life had felt like a whirlwind of emotions. Firstly, she had the traumatizing event of her only companion in life, the old kittypet she used to live with, dying and then secondly, the hell she went through to find her siblings and a place to call home again. Only now things were beginning to calm down, but as Reprise was slowly finding out the hard way, things never just calmed down once you join Primal Instinct. Oh, no. Anyone who would think such a thing would have to be pretty insane. Pun intended.
It had also come to Reprise's attention that her views on the world around her were extremely different from her new companions and her siblings. She often felt like a butterfly, sinking into a dark void, her delicate wings beginning to soak up the darkness around her. She was determined to keep her passion and her dreams alive. All she could do right now was cling tightly onto her soul... and hope to not upset her bro too much.
The thought of her brother snapped her back into reality. That's right. She was going to meet him in a small park which he had told her to meet him at yesterday. She had her suspicions of what they might be discussing, but she forced those thoughts to the back of her head. Maybe it was just a little catch-up? Maybe just a "how ya doing? How's life? Okay, wonderful! See ya later then!" However, deep down, she knew it wouldn't just be that. For starters, it was her brother. C'mon now.

It seemed the days they were they ran around the city, raising hell wherever they went were over. Sure, time had certainly took it's toll on their relationship, but maybe they just weren't all as close as he thought they were. But he never would of thought one of them would be worried about getting him mad. He's already dealt with the most infuriating cat ever and she was dead, so really, Reprise was fine. A little catch up would be one thing, but there would have been no reason for him to invite her out here just for that. Plus, if you come to the League looking for your brother, you really should expect to actually spend some time with him. Deciding to avoid Funk was best before you came back into his life, not after.
The park itself had green grass and walkways of pearly stone. Lines of trees decorated the edges, and they decorated the ground around them with fallen leaves. Twoleg kids ran around, throwing armfuls of the leaves at each other, while older ones watched and held shiny bricks. The sky was overcast, peaks of blue sky reaching out occasionally. His paw rolled around a loose stone, pushing it forward as he listened to it rattle against the ground. He let out a sigh and stood up, slipping out and climbing up on the bench he was just under. Beginning to wonder just how long it'd take her, a small gale of wind made his auburn fur puff up.

As Reprise neared the park, her fur fluffed down. She wasn't scared of the Twolegs playing on the weird metal things or whatever they were. She wasn't scared of the younger Twolegs one bit. Sure, sometimes they got a little out of paw, but they were typically kind and she knew they meant well. Reprise had a lot on her mind, many emotions were buzzing through her head. She felt half excited and half confused. It had been a long time since she and her siblings used to cause trouble and mayhem around the city center. They had been a likely bunch, little rebels indeed. It amused Reprise at how clueless she had been back then. All she had been known for was the slightly shy, slightly good singer of the sibling group. Those days had been good though, being able to run free. The bond between her siblings now was more torn and frayed at the edges than ever before. It almost felt like every single one of them were different cats. She knew she certainly was. But hopefully in a good way. It was hard expressing herself to her siblings, but she was determined to so. Thankfully, her brother had given her the perfect opportunity.
Spotting the tom emerge from under a park bench, she gave a slight huff of annoyance. He was probably thinking about how she was late. Of course. Picking up her pace, she strode over to him. "I'm here, please don't comment on my lateness. I took the long route." She smiled, nudging him the shoulder. Her nervousness from before subsiding slightly now, instead replaced by hopefulness. It was good just to be siblings and not have the pressure to treat him like a deity in front of the other cats of the League.

"Hmmph, I'll allow it. This time." Funk prickled just a little at the contact, but pushed back as he spoke with a light playfulness that was more natural. Really, though, no one actually treated him like a deity. A king, occasionally. A deity, never. Which was a shame, he was extremely worshippable, in his eyes at least. It was a cool autumn morning, so there were few twolegs running around, and even less cats. He didn't pick the park randomly. Watching a child grab a large stick and throw it at their companion, he remembered skipping through those leaves with everyone. Those were the days, the most normal days they would ever have.
But he brought himself out of the nostalgia, and hopped off the bench. "I got no plans. So we're just here to walk and talk. Sound good?"

Reprise rolled her eyes. "Aw, thanks bro." She laughed, swiping her paw up to catch an insect as it flew by. "A walk and a talk sounds good to me." Reprise picked up her pace a little, so that she was trotting along next to Funk. She felt carefree out here, the memories of their past giving her a burst of energy. She wondered if her siblings still remembered those times. She still hadn't talked to each of her siblings enough. Life had just been so busy trying to find a place in the league and make friends at the same time, it had been impossible to catch all of her siblings.
Glancing at her brother, she sighed. She guessed it would be up to her to start the conversation. Reprise had many questions but decided to keep it slightly lowkey... for now, at least. "Sooo... How's life? It's been a while since we all gave each other a life update." She laughed.

"I feel like you have all been around for all my drama. Other than the kids being born." The more time had gone by, the more Funk had been able to move past the death of Eshek. Time heals all wounds, he guessed, though the seeing Lorah around was a constant reminder. As long as he stayed away from Foreign Affairs, he was fine. Though that was a frustrating task. He was hoping being Nemesis, and admittedly Eshek's death, would mean that he didn't have to feel like he was walking on pins and needles all the time. But they were still here, and he hated it. It made him want to drug himself to the point of not caring how many times he got pricked.
"It was shortly...before? after? I don't remember. When Eshek died. And anything else, has been about moving here? Though this has been a nice change." He paused briefly, despite the questions burning in his mind about just why she was here. He had a feeling they might end up dwelling on this topic for a bit longer.

It amused Reprise slightly that Funk classified his kits as "drama" but she could see the point of view he was coming from. One second you're you against the world, the next second you have a thousand little mini yous running around your feet. Not that she knew, she'd had a few flings but so far, none of these had resulted in kits. Her brother on the other paw, had not been so lucky. Though he seemed to be happy with his kits. However, Reprise could tell it pained him talking about his former mate, Eshek. "She must have meant a lot to you..." Reprise said gently, she didn't want to bring up the topic too much but who can resist a little prying while they were on the topic? Well, certainly Reprise.
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 20, 2019 22:42:17 GMT -5
Luck must have smiled on him for none of his past flings to end in kits. Or he was really good at hiding and none of the mothers had found him yet. Either way, he admittedly, did not hate parenthood as much as he thought he would. Kits were unapologetic in their curiosity, they haven't been conditioned on what to ask and what not to. It was something he absolutely adored about his kids, and he only wanted to stoke the fire for their knowledge. He could only hope they would hold onto that wonder as they got older.
"You're not so above it all, after all." Funk bumped into her a little as they walked, Reprise never acted like a saint around them, that was more Hymn's thing. But being the only one who held a more squeaky clean life, she sure wanted to know every dirty detail about her siblings. Not that this was the worse he'd done, or will do, or continue to do. Still, they deserved to know. It was the only thing he could do to keep her alive somehow, "I guess so. She's the only one I can ever say that like... got me. There was a lot of bad in our relationship... well, mostly bad. But I guess we became decent because despite it all, we ended up caring about each other. I hesitate to call us soulmates, but maybe we were. I'll never know though."

Reprise glanced at Funk for a moment, letting his words sink in. She had never known someone that had "got" her. Perhaps her mindset was surprisingly too complicatedly direct that no one could understand such a cat. It saddened her slightly that her brother had lost someone he cared for so much. She could tell from his tone of voice, that it was a touchy subject. However, the fact that he had opened up about himself and his past she had not been part of, made her question if perhaps the siblings were not so torn apart as she had originally thought.
"Being able to feel like someone "gets you," is extremely rare..." Reprise's tone changed slightly, becoming softer and less harsh and straightforward. If that was possible to imagine for a cat with such a soft heart as Reprise. At least, she liked to think it was soft. For a second her thoughts were somewhere else. Welp. Probably time to change the subject.
With a quiet laugh/cough, who knew what it was, the she-cat rolled her eyes, the playful glint returning to their depths. "Huh? Not so above it after all? Is that supposed to mean you thought I was above it all before?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 24, 2019 13:08:29 GMT -5
It was true. It was overly rare to find someone like that. Though it still felt like there was so much more he didn't know, he wouldn't get to know anymore. She had stolen that away. His heart constantly flipped between bitterness and sadness at her death. It made him sick, enough to throw his heart around so hard it would crack under the pressure eventually. Strangely, it hadn't yet and he couldn't say why. Well, it wasn't the time to think about that anyway. It was too bright and he was too sober for it.
"No. But you throw around your doctrine like your some holy saint who can tell us what to do. Yet here you are, prodding into my business and who knows what else behind our backs." For as critical as his words were, his tone was light and playful, going back to form.

(we can keep this thread based before Reprise becomes Proxy so it makes sense and if you wanted, we could do another thread between them after she becomes one?)
Even though Funk E'tan's tone was playful, the words sliced Reprise across the face like a cold knife. They were still accusations; it didn't matter that they were masked with cheer. The comments her brother had just said, wiped every feeling of playfulness out of her soul. He wasn't stupid, she knew that. She wasn't either. Funk was probably testing the waters, seeing how she would respond to such a comment. Getting upset wouldn't prove anything. Keep low, keep neutral. Reprise wasn't sure if she could let Funk into her mind just yet. Getting to know him now was more important, so she could understand who he really was. An ally? Or another soul that needed fixing.
With a playful smile, Reprise turned to face her brother. Her eyes betraying nothing of her thoughts. "Maybe I just want to get to know you more? Is it too much too asked for your sister to want to rekindle our friendship after so many long years?" With a sweet smile, she turned to glance at the two-legs hurrying about. "And I just want what's best for the League. I love it here, it's like a home to me. I would never want to tell anyone to change if they didn't want to. But a bit of love and care can never hurt, right?"

(sounds good. though now we got like 3 threads where my cat is arguing with Reprise about the League)
It was a bold move, a dangerous move. A slap like kiss or a kiss like slap. Both? Neither? He wasn't sure. Most would hold their tongue to not destroy their relationship with their siblings. That was just common courtesy. But there was one thing clear; Funk didn't care. She hid her reaction so well, but he knew it hurt. Stung far more than she wanted. It was a small reverie, a little joy in getting to cause some pain.
Though as she talked about the League, the more suspicious he became. Most of his siblings had come around because they 'heard a bengal was in charge' or some lie. Really, he figured they needed a warm meal and a bed. Which was fine, saved him the trouble of having to find them. He guessed his kids deserved to meet their relatives. But hearing that Reprise 'loved it here like a home' and how she'd 'never want it to change' was too hard of a pill for Funk to swallow. She wanted it to change, it was a fact. Completely undeniable. "I guess. But there's only so much to learn and prod into before it gets concerning. As for that last bit, a little love and care is fine. But we're not afraid to take out those that want to shake the status quo, regardless of who their brother is. That clear?"

(lol true. poor Reprise is digging herself a nice grave. though I am trying to keep Reprise control her passion for change a little around her brother, to get into an area of power, just so it makes sense why he chose her as proxy)
Her brother's words sent a sharp jab up her spine. Reprise knew she had to act fast, get her brother to somehow trust her. For her plan to work, for her to get to the very core of the league and shake it up, give it the very medicine it needed, she had to first gain the trust of the cats living there. Starting with the main dude in charge, her bro. He was clever, she could tell. Hopefully, if she calmed things down a little, she could save it.
With a dutiful nod, Reprise glanced at her brother. "Okay. I do apologize for giving off those sorts of vibes. I guess I come from a place quite different from here and take the word "home" very seriously." She sighed. "Okay, so I'm new around here and I'm trying to fit in. I'm not perfect and sometimes I'm a little passionate about things." She paused, looking at her brother straight in the eyes. Her stare was not challenging, simply one of emotion. "I-I never really found a family after we all went our separate ways. I suppose you found yours and all I want is to be part of it, part of this world you've created." Her eyes became distant. Part of what she was trying to say was true and raw, she only wished it was completely true. Why did life have to be so complicated?

(i feel like I'm giving the same arguments in each thread xD sounds good tho you know Funk would put her in charge even if she was outlandish for the chaos it would bring)
Funk cocked an ear and listened to her words carefully. Home, huh? Was that what this was? But what even was a home? It wasn't something he was familiar with. In all his travels, he could never say he actually found a home. From the beginning with their little group of siblings. To the clan that taught him most of the medicine he knew. The vagrant groups of rogues and loners that surrounded him. This ragtag group he found himself suddenly leading. None of it was a home. Even in the arms of one who genuinely loved him, it never felt like a home. It was like a warm den of knives. You risk getting cut each time you go in there, but the world was cold and it was warm so you kept going back. That was more of an apartment he lived in for a short time rather than a home. But now that he was back on the streets, he didn't know what to do with himself.
Reprise may have wanted to gain his trust with that little spiel. The kind of move he expected, but one that didn't work for a simple reason; Funk didn't trust anyone. Arguably the least trustworthy cat he knew, he never extended that to anyone. Everyone was held at an arm's length, and he simply waited for the day he was challenged for his throne. Even with eyes full of emotion, he had little thoughts on what to say. What got him was that last bit. "Created? Don't make me laugh. This was just handed to me. Nothing more or less. Keep your head on straight and your tongue monitored and maybe you'll find a place here."

(i feel like with reprise & lorelei, it'd be interesting if they got into a lil tussle (obvs reprise wouldn't win). i'm not sure how you want lorelei to do after that but threats could be made. as for reprise and funk, i think reprise would try & be all sneaky, tryna get on funk's good side but he's not having it and just goes: "we all know what you want, so why not i just give it to you because i just wanna see you fail." then all sassy, reprise would be like: "damn, sure bro. i'll prove you and your herbs wrong." lol feel free to throw any other suggestions at me. i'm easy tbh)
Okay. Damn. Funk was being too smart for her. Reprise almost wanted to scream and let all her frustration out of her. If only it was more simple but of course her brother had to stand here now, sneering at her every attempt at a positive little chat. It was almost like Reprise was throwing toilet paper down a toilet and Funk was simply pressing the flush button, again and again. The toilet paper being her words, her every hope of creating a friendship with her brother. It might be possible, but probably not with her current goals and dreams.
"Oh, geez bro." She meowed, nudging him in the side. She knew this would annoy him, from his ears to paws. "Created... handed... whatever! Don't be so touchy on the topic." She glanced at him. "Y'know most leaders or cats in power would have taken that has a compliment, as it was meant to be. But I guess you're not most cats." She laughed at her own words, a slight sneer to her tone.
Post by strawberrycupid on Nov 3, 2019 17:45:54 GMT -5
(reprise can keep pushing lorelei's buttons. lorelei is a bit oblivious but she'd notice soon enough. or reprise can just start outright lecturing her. she wouldn't like that. as for funk and reprise, I really like what you got there right now tbh also my son is finally smart praise partially wanting her to fail, partially cause he wants to see what comes of it, and partially cause at least reprise isn't a minimalist like eshek so their offices won't look the same. also, this toilet analogy is killing me)
No one truly wanted to create a friendship with him, that was Funk thought. Even before the position, but especially now with it, he had to doubt everyone's words and intentions more than he already did. If he was never honest with people, he really shouldn't expect anyone else to be honest with him. So he would keep pressing that flush handle over and over again. Though really, an argument over this wasn't gonna get the pair anywhere. He needed to know just what Reprise was after.
So he'd humor her. Just a little. "Eh, it's not quite where I want it yet. It's hard to want to claim something as yours if it's not to your standards, capisce my dear sister." He was quite unlike anyone else, most would say. Glossing over the sneer, he lightly whapped her tail with his own. "Maybe one day. But that's a tired subject. Tell me about you."

(Okay, awesome. Sounds like a good plan cx love me some good quality toilet analogy)
Reprise would just keep adding toilet paper, again and again in the hope that perhaps one day the toilet would get clogged up so that Funk could no longer press the flush button. Until then, she would just have to keep buying the toilet paper and there is only so much toilet paper you can buy. This pretty much summed up all of Reprise's wicked little plans in a few sentences.
However, right now, Reprise suddenly felt like she was getting somewhere. Her brother had responded well to her bending and bowing. "Nothing is perfect when it's created by someone else." She purred, glancing at Funk.
Flicking her tail at his next question, she glanced up the cloudy sky. "Oh, me?" She scoffed at his question. "I'm an open book in some aspects, others not so much." She let out a small laugh. "Well, as you know, I lived a few years as a kittypet. A simple lifestyle. My twolegs were not nice to me and the other kittypet I lived with..." She paused, a tinge of pain crossing her voice. "He was a good cat, like a father to me and he teached me well. He showed me how to see the beauty in the world even if it is full of so much darkness and ugliness." Her voice softened for the first time, and she glanced down at the ground, her gaze clouding.
Post by strawberrycupid on Nov 5, 2019 21:24:15 GMT -5
That was a really poor investment. She wouldn't even use it. Maybe if she had something with a bit more substance, it wouldn't be so easy to flush it away. Like rubber ducks or something. Not this worthless one-ply toilet paper.
He almost got something as she went on. But yeah, no duh Sherlock. She'd only be an open book so long as it fit her means. Which he couldn't blame, he was the same way. He tilted his head as she went on. Not overly surprised at her staying a kittypet for a while, his attention focused on this old kittypet. So it was him that deluded this message into a drinkable potion for her. This whole 'beauty in the world' ideology that she would shove down everyone's throats. That was the one who told her where to get the toilet paper. Shame he was dead, Funk would have liked to give him a piece of his mind. He looked away for a moment, lightly pressing against her as silence engulfed them again.
Despite that, it was still someone important to her. He was unable to chastise her anymore, not after losing her as well. He let the breeze mourn their loss.

The quietness in the air left room for the smaller, innocent sounds to creep out and surround the two siblings as they walked slowly down the leaf dusted path the two-legs had created, tails clasped together, minds screaming a thousand thoughts. Yet to the naked eye, not even the howl of the wind around them, broke the glass that was so delicately placed around them. And indeed, did both cats' minds scream a thousand thoughts; a thousand words. A thousand pieces of one-ply toilet paper so thinly placed, easily ripped in half and oh so see-through.
After the silence seemed to become a dark cloud, it was broken. Reprise sighed, her mind racing. Perhaps with confusion at who she was and who her family was. Funk; one so different to her ideals. A sibling she had never understood but yet, here they were, somehow, through the anger in her mind and perhaps the feeling of misunderstanding in his, they stood together. Somehow. In some way.
A sigh broke the silence, not a cutting-edge snarl wrapped in soggy toilet paper. No. Much different. "Funk..." Reprise meowed slowly. "I wonder sometimes. How we got to this point in our lives..." She paused, unsure of what she was trying to say. "How we have changed... How we have grown. And yet, here we are. Being typical siblings and arguing, accusing." Reprise stopped in her pawsteps, her eyes wide. She felt like she had been too open, as if the very skin protecting her had been ripped off and thrown away, leaving everything underneath. But maybe it wasn't true, maybe not everything was there. Not matter how hard she tried, her mind seemed to argue and rage inside. As if it couldn't decide what it wanted and all Reprise could do was watch.
