Sunlight shone down on Graythorn as he sat outside his medicine den. The air was cool with a slight breeze ruffling his gray tabby fur. This was the first time he had a chance just to sit for a spell. His days were either spent with trips to the wildflower and herb meadow to stock up for the coming Leafbare or else he was busy training his new apprentice. What a time this last year had been! So many leaders have come and gone the past few moons. He wondered if StarClan was mad at them or something but none of the ancestors he had spoken with had said nothing about it. Were they hiding something from him? And if so what? Would Gardeniastar follow their same path? Movement caught his eye. It was the new leader! It was as if his thinking of her made her appear. It figures! he thought. The first time all day I sit down and she sees me! She'll probably think I'm loafing!
“Graythorn!” She called as she made her way over. “I wanted to speak to you about the upcoming leaf bare. Do you have a moment?” She asked, as if she hadn’t even noticed that the tom was already unoccupied.

"Sure," the gray tabby said as he rose to his feet. I suppose she's worried I don't have enough herbs to get us through, he thought dismally. "What would you like to know?"
“I was wondering how the stores are looking. I wanted to be sure we could make it on what you have... if not.. I have an idea in mind.” Gardeniastar mewed, her whiskers twitching excitedly at even the thought of her oh so brilliant idea that had planted in her mind the night before.

Graythorn looked at his leader before replying. He wondered from the expression on her face what she was thinking. "Well, for the most part we're doing good with our supplies. The ones that we're lacking in are thyme and chamomile. Those were used extensively during the nightmare epidemic we had." He paused then continued. "I'd like to hear about any idea you might have." He was still young and would like to learn about anything that might help him or his plants.
Her whiskers quivered with excitement still. “I am going to have a festival soon. For the kits I was thinking we could have them pick a Warrior and or an apprentice... well a well trained almost warrior...” she paused in thought then continued,”to take out with them into the forest. We would give them small amounts of information on the plants they are looking for.. whoever finds the plants wins the game and we find a prize to give them. It may even make choosing an apprentice easier for you as well.” Gardeniastar added lightly.

The gray tabby sat back in thought. It would take a lot of work off his shoulders, especially now when he was trying to store up supplies for the coming Leafbare. "Sounds like a good plan," he meowed. "A good plan indeed. And I could use another set of paws to help during the cold season." He wasn't looking forward to facing all that work alone. "Just what were you thinking of as the winner's prize?"
