Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Mercenary Fortune had been paired up with Scout Daria for some hunting. While she looked for prey, it was his job to keep an eye out for any predators or rogues that wandered their way and deal with them. The reek of dead fish permeated their land from the flooding of the Survival Clans and more than one scavenger had been seen sniffing around, even a wolverine, which made him feel.... rather unsafe. Fortune doubted his ability to take on a wolverine alone, even just for the few minutes it would take for Daria to escape, but when he voiced his concern earlier his father had gone off about how all of his training was a complete waste if he couldn't even distract a predator for a few seconds to save his partner and how he wanted a second mercenary to come with them for support was just a waste of time. And... he had a point, but Fortune worried still.
The fluffy black tom waited in Headquarters, shifting anxiously from paw to paw as he waited for the scout to join him. He really hoped they wouldn't run into any trouble on the surface.

She had been told that she was partnered with Fortune, and she'd been moderately surprised. It wasn't that she was surprised that she was assigned a partner; that normally happened, especially since the flood of the Survival clans. However, she was surprised that it was Fortune himself that she'd been paired with. She wasn't familiar with all of the mercenaries, but from what she'd heard, he wasn't the first to volunteer for things, and probably wasn't the first choice to actually send out with poor defenseless scouts. Daria had always scoffed at the idea that she needed a companion to take with her - she felt that she was fully capable of basic tasks, including not getting killed, herself.
"Hey, doll," she meowed as she padded up to him, her footsteps surprisingly heavy for a huntress. She wasn't as thin as Scouts, but she was never a fighter, nor was she a good healer, nor was she a good influence for the kittens. After a few failed attempts, they slotted her as a scout, and well, she did a good enough job. "Fortune, right?"
He looked up quickly as she approached and adopted a nervous half-smile. "Yeah, that's me. Uh... Daria right? I'm going to be hunting with you. I mean, I won't be hunting, you will be, I hope, but--"
Finally Fortune decided this was a good time to shut up and just smile in suffering at the ground. He wasn't normally so awkward (well, maybe he was) but he was stressed about the job he had to do so he couldn't focus on being nice and social. He just wanted to get this over with. Daria was a lovely cat, he was sure, and he didn't mind spending time with her, but he needed to get this done with. His father would kill him if he heard he was sitting here stuttering around instead of getting work done. He was always saying Fortune needed to be more stern and confident. He took a deep breath and tried again, hardening his tone.
"I mean, let's get going. We're wasting daylight and I have other important things to do."
