Praline had made her home around the cliffs, finally enjoying some peace and isolation when the earthquake hit. Now the cliff became a cave, and while that was neat and all, it also brought tourists. Tourists who called themselves Nightclan and now said they owned the place. Which, sure free real estate and all that, but now Praline was one of these 'unbonded'. Which was layman's terms for no one really cared about her. She didn't want to just give up on her vacation time or spot, so now she was in a stalemate. Rolling over in the grass of a shady patch, she considered her options. There really was no where for her to go, so maybe she could settle down here. Though this whole family thing was bizarre. Was someone just supposed to choose her randomly like a pokeball in Pokemon? How'd it work?
Burningstar had introduced the concept of 'unbonded' cats right before she'd left on her ill-fated diplomacy mission with Larkwing to the Regime. Now Soaringstar was left to figure out how best to implement it. She figured a good idea would be to try and put Praline with some fellows and see who she clicked with. It was also an idea that had just occurred to her seeing Praline off to the side now and doing nothing.
"Hey, Praline." Soaringstar greeted. "I think it's about time we begin your integration into NightClan," She said. "Sooo... what do you know about clans?" She asked. Figuring that was a good place to start. Loners could be a mixed bag when it came to know how and know who. So she might as well establish a base understanding.

Praline let out a yawn as the new leader approached her, multi colored tail flicking behind her as she sat up slightly. From what she heard, the original leader disappeared so now this she-cat was left to take over. Seemed like a bum deal but whatever. Face scrunching up at integrating into this clan despite having just considered it her best option, she shook her head. "Just that you got some hierarchy and you move into other's territories when it conveniences you." It was a joke, but there was a tinge of bitterness to her voice. Like it felt she didn't have a choice whether to join or not if she wanted to stick around. Praline was open though, they just needed to earn her loyalty, which wasn't overly hard as she learned.
"We do have a hierarchy yes, but we don't do much moving. At least out of our territory, NightClan's been here for generations." Soaringstar said. "We have had some squirmishes over territory and prey when the need arises and patience is strained by hungry bellies. But one good thing is that three of the four clans that live in this forest are allied, so between SunClan and DAyClan and us, we don't have to worry about any prey stealing."
"Now, admittedly we're working with a new system my sister was planning to implement before... she became incapacitated, so we'll be developing our way to help integrate you into a family and into the clan as a whole."
She would need to look back on the family units in the clan. Perhaps that would be a job of the Ambassadors Burningstar had also mentioned wanting to create.
"So why don't you tell me a bit about yourself?" She asked.

"I see." Praline said simply, running a claw over one of her fangs as she thought. Though that did leave Moonclan, so as long as Praline stayed with Nightclan, she'd only have to worry about them. That was a nice boon to settling down. But now, there was this whole family thing. What would happen if she fell for someone in another family? Was it gonna be like Romeo and Juliet? She's killed herself enough for love already, once more wouldn't be too bad.
"Well. Praline. Born a loner. Travelled around a bunch. Joined different clans to find love. Left once my heart broke. Rinse, repeat. No real ties anywhere." It was the spark notes version, sure. But she really hadn't done much. Sometimes she was a little too much for others, sometimes her standards were too high. It was always some mix and match of circumstances that led to her separating from others. She was always second choice, never first.
Soaringstar nodded sympathetically. "Love can be a complicated and somewhat fickle mistress." She said. "Our hope is that by making it so our new members have to join a family is that you'll have a tighter bond with a few cats in the clan, and then they'll help integrate you into the clan as a whole. What would you be looking for in a family or a cat to help foster your developing relationships in the clan?" She asked.

It makes sense in theory. Starting to work with a few cats and then building up to more was logical and comfortable for both parties. But would anyone really want an outsider to join their family? It didn't seem Nightclan was as tight as some of the others, but there was still some animosity she could see in their eyes. Though even just this small conversation with the new leader was meeting all of her ultra high standards of "please be nice to me".
Though being asked what exactly she was looking for in a family was odd. It was strange to be presented a choice when that isn't really something you got to pick. "Besides being okay with outsiders...? Hmm, I'm not really sure."
Soaringstar nodded. "Hmm, well I suppose I could start you off with my sister and my own family." Her eyes brightened. "My sister and I were split for a very long time you know, and our parents had gone to StarClan long before that. We've built quite a nice family you can meet and see if you'd be interested in becoming a part of it." She squinted at Praline trying to tell how old Praline was. Then gave up on it, she couldn't tell from looking at her, older than an apprentice and young warrior, but not an elder age. Which was a very large range.
"My sister and I have children of our own, you've seen some of them, my sister adopted a litter of four tough as nails cats, you've seen the three of them wandering about camp," She let out a mrrow of amusement. "Ironjaw is very intimidating, but she's got a good heart. Loves her family. Bloodtusk might look intimidating but he's a big softy, at least I think so. Fierceflame is currently in SummerClan, and Beserkbeast tends to be reclusive and wander. But though they're big and not my sister's by blood, they're her children. Then there's her kits, they just became apprentices you know, Ashpaw, Spiritedpaw, and Fierypaw. I look forwards to seeing them develop. And then there's my mate Rasputin." Soaringstar let out a purr. "He came with me when we left BrookClan, and helped me raise our own kits. Skypaw, Raspberrypaw, Infernalpaw, and Blazepaw are my own precious little dears." Her eyes softened as she spoke of her own children. "I'm so proud of my kits. And yeah! That sums up the family me and my sister have. And my sister now has 6 more little ones in SunClan."
Soaringstar sighed casting a glance towards the direction of SunClan's territory. "I wish she'd stayed home, but at least she's well, and her kits are okay, even though she can't get back for a while."

Praline listened with intensity, green eyes mixed with curiosity but also jealousy. She knew the leader meant nothing by it, but hearing about her successes where she only failed stung quite a bit. Guess that was to be expected. Most everyone here had a 'family', people they cared for and loved and spent their lives with. She had none of that. Not when she pointlessly chased for it, not when she laid there and waited for it to come to her. There was just...nothing. Like chaff in the wind, she was blown away, always second place. She was getting tired of silver medals.
Though when she stopped thinking about herself, she felt her throat burn with wonderment. Just why did the last leader leave? To leave her family behind? Why to Sunclan? When she worked so hard to build something here, why would she just throw it away? It wasn't a decision Praline would ever say she could understand. Though even as the leader stared off in the distance, she didn't know what to say to her. Not without asking a billion questions she didn't need to know the answer to.
Soaringstar chuckled. "Sorry, I know it's a lot to digest, but you're in good paws. We'll find a nice family for you. Hmm, there's Bleakwind and his brother Wildhunt. Then there's Squirrelleap, he's raised a litter of kittens whose mother sadly perished during the earthquake. There's Frozenfire, she recently had some kits," Soaringstar curled her lip. "She's not a particularly nice cat, and you can catch her and Ericanorth joined at the hip. Though Frozenfire's niece Fernshadow is a decent sort, then there's Tundrastorm, she's the daughter of an old clan leader I think. She's got a son Frostypaw. Then there's Duskwing, she recently got put in the elder's den because of a terrible injury, but she has 3 kits all warrior age now, one of them is sweet on Echomelody. Echomelody was adopted by Stealthclaw who raised her along with another litter of kits who's parents abandoned them." She said abandoned but the look on her face said there was more to it than that. Coyoteway had been a foxheart, and he couldn't leave the clan fast enough. It was a shame his kits had to suffer. Especially since Stealthclaw's return brought light to the fact that Coyoteway had tried to kill her. "Then there's Tallflower, she was recently in the nursery with a litter of kits but all of them are apprentices now and I think that's majority of the family's. Oh! There's also Turbulentsea and his brother Tenaciousshore, but since Turbulentsea's our medicine cat, I don't know if he's looking to expand his family. He has to care for the clan as a whole. But if you're interested we can have you interact with them." Soaringstar said
"Anything you want to ask, I know that was a lot to take in, and it was ultimately a very brief description of everyone. Any in particular you'd like to start interacting with? Or you can just keep hanging out with me and my family. I know Burningstar was always eager to welcome others! And please don't hesitate to ask questions, that's what I'm here for! To provide answers." She said cheerfully.

There were a dizzying amount of families in Nightclan. And they all seemed to flow and come together easily, like different streams joining a river. Praline was going to have a hard time making her own way in. There was no convenient place for her to slip into, most of the families sound like they were made up nicely. She really felt like a wasp in a bees nest. Soaringstar described them nicely, other than the few oddballs, but none in particular stuck out to Praline. Some of them sure had some fancy names though.
"Quite a bit. You have a good sized clan on your paws." Praline sat up, running her paw against her muzzle briefly, "Though it's hard to say if I want to interact with any of them in particular. Maybe it'd be best to meet most of them and see what clicks." She found herself into this, surprisingly. As much as she wanted to just slip in, she couldn't and she wasn't unfamiliar with working towards her dream.
Soaringstar nodded. "Yes, it can certainly be a bit overwhleming at times, but it's worth it. I've been happy to be a member of NightClan, and you will too. I'll arrange for a meeting with the other families soon but if you'd like you can meet mine first." She offered.

Praline simply nodded, that was the best option truly. Soaringstar seemed amicable enough, and while they hadn't been talking long, she could already feel that old tug of loyalty at her heart. It was far too easy to gain her trust, and she knew that. But when they're nice to her, she couldn't help it. Standing up, she gave an awkward smile to the leader, cursing these fangs of her's. "Sounds good. Thank you Soaringstar."
