Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Word had traveled fast throughout the league that Esperavit had disappeared, leaving yet another seat open among the Proxies. Funk E'tan had decided to hold interviews to promote their replacements. All you had to do to be considered was step into a room with three of the most dangerous cats in the entire League... and impress them. Blue would have had better luck stepping into a pit of vipers.
Yet, she was torn. Power was everything for the cats of PI, and she'd be stupid to let this opportunity pass her by. The only problem, well, the biggest problem, was that Blue hadn't exactly accomplished herself. In other words, she didn't have a reputation, hell, she didn't even have an impressive kill count. She'd mostly been off the radar her whole life, so much so that her own leader didn't even remember her name, and that was just the other day.
"Ugh.." Blue, laying on her back, stretched her paws as far as they would reach, her joints aching slightly. Her health was another problem. She was fine now but, with winter coming, she'd probably be bed-ridden through most of leaf-bare unless Corax found some kind of treatment. Maybe the Shaman would prioritize her more if she was an important cat, but truthfully, Blue was a nobody.
And nobodies cannot be leaders.
"Yeah, I'd better not.." She mused, rolling onto her side now, her stomach in knots, although not just because of nerves.
Man these cats were vicious. Nero heard yet another conversation on the best ways to kill and dismember a kittypet as he padded out of the church. His injuries from the rouged had healed enough that Enigma wasn't following him all over anymore.. sometimes it really did such having a relative that was trained in the medical arts. But at least he was alive, which wasn't something that could be said about much of the group.
His gaze drifted to a she cat, laying in the sun, seemingly harmless enough. Maybe he'd just met all of the resident psych cases? Surely there was one normal cat in this group? "Hello." He mewed, his blue eyes scanning the she cat, hoping he hadn't startled her too badly.
Blue swiveled her ears toward Nero, then sat her head up, her stomach warming on the cement. She didn't recognize this tom, so he must be from Absum Lux. Her information on the group was lacking at best, but she knew they came begging Funk E'tan for help when they lost a fight, or something like that. The details were lost to her, but on the bright side, the League gained more land to roam.
"Hi. You should come warm yourself here, it's divine," she offered, her tail pointing to another sunny spot next to her, "It'll help with that shoulder of yours." Might as well make a friend, especially with someone who knew the lay of the land. Blue was itching to explore the new territory. Maybe this cat could help her.
Nero nodded, "I was just thinking the same thing. We don't get nearly enough sun inside of the church." He mewed as he sat down, the sunshine warming his black pelt quickly. "I'm Nero by the way." He mewed it like an afterthought, which really it was. He was so used to everyone knowing him in the group it was strange to find strangers once more.
"I can imagine! Nice to meet you... I'm Blue." She said, her pale blue eyes nearly white in the sunlight. A rather small, skinny cat, Blue was a breath of fresh air when compared to other, more intimidating cats Primal Instinct had to offer. However, up close, her toned body betrayed she had had some serious training, although a lack of scars indicated she likely hadn't been in a lot of serious fights.
"So, what's it like living in the city? Any places I should avoid?"
"I wouldn't say we live in the city." He pointed with his tail to the border fence, which you could just barely seen from their position. "The two legs abandoned this place a long time ago and built that fence to keep their kits out. We're just in the ruins of the city at this point." Fitting wasn't it. "If you cross the fence you're in the actual city but here you're not going to run into much trouble from the twolegs." He shrugged, knowing a lot of the league cats whispered about fearing when the twolegs would return to their nests. It actually made his chuckle thinking about it.
Blue followed Nero's directions and saw the fence in the distance. She stood up to get a better view of it, then stretched, yawned, thought better of it, and laid back down. She'd go check it out later; there would be plenty of time to explore the "forbidden fruit" behind the fence another day. "I guess thank explains why I haven't seen a single twoleg since leaving the Estate...Which was one of their old nests, too, but it was a lot bigger than most of the ones around here." Blue said, then looked back to her companion, her earlier thoughts of promotion reminding her of something,"Say, Nero, what's your rank? Assuming, of course, AL has ranks. Or perhaps I aught to say had ranks..."
"I was just a gladiator." He mewed, "I believe that was similar to the leagues middle ranks." He grinned, guessing what she'd been getting at. "There aren't many cats left from the ranks, the lower ranked cats were killed off pretty quickly and the higher level cats ran in shame." He paused to think, wondering who he'd seen as of late. "I think the only high ranking cats that are left are Octavia, she was the Heda awhile back, and Enigma, who was a high sage at one time." He paused to think but he hadn't seen any more of the important cats around since the battle.
[ I'm totally going to use this conversation for you to teach me what has been going on around here since I am having a hard time keeping up LOL ]
Blue was surprised by how forthcoming Nero was with information, but it wasn't like he had anything he could lose by it. Any secrets that Absum Lux had would surely be brought to the surface by Internal Affairs before too long... or would that fall under Foreign Affairs jurisdiction? Eh, whatever, not her problem.
"Must have been some pretty powerful rogues to divide a group so severely, so much so that even your primary leadership abandoned you," Blue said, perhaps more casually that one would expect after such a recent tragedy, "Do you think they will try to attack again?"
"Without the League's presence they most certainly would have but I don't think they'd dare to now." He glanced at the border fence. "That group has pretty much gone unchallenged in the city for many moons, they are strong and our group wasn't ready for that kind of assault." Really what was the use of trying to spin the story. Absum Lux was defeated no matter how you looked at it. He'd been lucky, not having any family or close friends in the group so he'd only felt the hit to his pride, not his heart.
Blue admired how matter-of-factly Nero had answered her question. She noticed he had been rather emotionless, which clued her into the fact that he himself probably hadn't lost anyone close to him. Either that or he was a little like her and lacked empathy...
"Thank you for sharing, that does clear things up quite a bit," She replied, changing her focus to her job as an Ambassador. If this area really did have a severe problem with rogues, especially ones that had already formed a group, she and her division would certainly have their work cut out for them, "Care to show me around the places you saw them the most before the attack?"
