Cleaver here the Raijin x Brilliance thread || sorry for short prompt I'm sick Brilliance-kun would soon be just Brilliance, she knew. But ever since the past Nemesis, Mother E'tani, had disappeared, Brilliance had found her progress stagnating. It wasn't her mentor Kotori or even Funk E'tans fault, but she hadn't got much out of their last few sessions. She worked on every move tirelessly, already working harder than most League cats did. She had little reason to stick around here, the only attachment was the fading memory of Mother. Her thoughts led her everywhere and nowhere, briefly lost before realizing she had wandered a long way. The land around her had been stripped of everything by the flood that had ravaged it not long ago, life only just starting to come back.
"Honestly," the blue tom drawled as he lifted his head to spot the young she-cat, "the trespassing here is ridiculous. Do you cats think the Regime never walks the surface?" He had wondered that himself more than once now - was he the only one actually checking the borders above the surface? He was a cat that ignored borders, not marked them, and yet it felt like he was the only one left guarding their clan. Commander Raijin was losing sight of the point. His lips pressed into a thin line, he suppressed a sigh and drifted close to look the trainee up and down.

Brilliance-kun stared blankly at the tom for a moment, blue eyes tracing her surroundings as she assessed her situation. This was Regime territory now, huh? They must have really wanted to move from their last location to come to this place. Mentally, she cursed Foreign Affairs for never doing their jobs. Sure, they were a little directionless but they should have at least informed Internal Affairs that the Regime had moved. If they did, it should have trickled to her. But maybe she missed it? Either way, she needed to get out of here and back home. He wanted an excuse, huh? But she wasn't one for excuses, even for unknowingly trespassing.
"What good would an excuse do me here? You're not the type to accept any of them anyway. If you'd like to take me down to that prison, then let's get on it." Whether she was daring the Commander or not was unclear, just that the siamese was extraordinarily confident in her words and stature, not bowing even to the larger tom.
Raijin considered. That wasn't the response he had expected. He studied her closer.
"I don't usually waste time hauling cats off to prison. It's tedious, you know, and contrary to popular belief I do have a job to do." He wasn't very good at that job, but he was learning. It wasn't his fault Mars thought he was more prepared than he was. The Regime wasn't in pieces yet, so he considered that a victory. "Just apologize, tell me why you ended up here, and I'll send you on your way. Easy enough, little one."

Brilliance-kun's tail flicked behind her as she considered his words. Was it really going to be that easy? Maybe it's cause she's a League cat, but she couldn't take his words at face value. Besides, being called little one despite being a moon away from huntership was annoying. And even to a cat that towered over her, she wasn't gonna back down.
"I suppose I'll play. I was lost in thought about my dream and I'm sorry. Satisfactory for you?" He really didn't know all the details. The League wasn't doing a bad job, but admitting any fault, especially to the Regime, could easily end in execution. Besides, she was Internal Affairs, she knew more than most and could not let any of that fall into the wrong paws.
"That," he paused, his brow drawing up dramatically, "is the single most, hands down, worst excuse I have ever heard. You except me to believe you walked 'round all these clans and across the border without noticing because you were thinking?" Another beat, and then the blue tom cracked a grin, and shook his head. "Well, you did say your excuse wasn't any good. I didn't believe you then, but no cat is dumb enough to come up with an excuse this bad if it isn't at least partially true."
Raijin still didn't entirely trust her, she could easily be leaving out some important details, and no doubt she was. He'd been in the League before, he knew cats usually had an ulterior motive for their wandering. "You one of their spies, then? Gotta say, that's a waste of your time. I'm an open book, you could just ask instead of creeping about."

Gee, she walked fast. Cut her some slack. Brilliance's expression didn't change through his little speech, only tilting her head as he mentioned creeping about. "It's not really creeping if I'm walking through like I own the place." Brilliance knew better, was taught better, than to be caught so easily. So really, it was even more suspicious that she wasn't even trying to hide. She didn't really have any League questions to ask but a different curiosity hit her. One she hadn't considered until now. "Well, I guess I'll ask something. What's the overall goal for each of the members of the Regime?"
"Really?" Raijin faked a yawn. "That's your question? Guess you're still early in your training. But fine." He let out an exaggerated sigh, because he knew how ridiculous it was to say this all out loud. "The mercenaries usually want to keep their clan safe. Those are the 'death or glory' types, they're all so eager to die fighting, it's a real shame. Then you've got the scouts, they just like to hunt and don't want to be stuck underground, I suppose. Guiders are pacifists that would rather heal than fight, you know the type, every clan gets those. They just want to keep everyone healthy. No, scratch that, they just want to stock up on herbs and not waste them healing injuries. And the raisers?" The blue tom grinned. "They're just useless at everything else. All they want is to stay in the group a little longer."

"Really? That's your answer? You don't need to patronize me." Brilliance ran a claw through the longer hair around her face, tempted to roll her eyes in front of the Commander. Somehow, she held back and returned her paw to the ground. Craning her head, she felt it pop briefly. "That wasn't my question. Ignoring things like ranks, age, and whatever, what is everyone's goal in the Regime? Like why do they follow you or whoever is supposed to actually be leading?"
"I'm not patronizing you, I'm being honest. I have never met cats so stupidly proud or boring. All they want is to grow up and do their job and fall in love and then die. They do as they're told. Nobody has so much as questioned me since I took charge. Mars named me his successor and not once did they argue." Raijin shrugged. "They're happy, useless cats."
There a brief pause as he considered going on. "It makes it easier for me to do what I want. Nobody would dare stop me."

The siamese narrowed her eyes as she listened. It was a world beyond her own. The League had practically raised her to question everything. There was hardly a day that went by when someone wasn't kicked out of Funk E'tan's den in a huff after some complaint or question. She wondered why he was even there if he didn't care for the place so much, but it wasn't really her place to ask. Though it answered a lot, it wasn't what she wanted. There was no way she could fit in with such dreamless creatures.
"Okay. Thank you, Commander." She gave him a brief bow as she stood up, "I'll be on my way then."
