Scorchpaw stamped a paw to the ground out of irritation. She couldn’t believe she was left on elder duty...AGAIN. She was so tired of picking ticks off those old goons. They were so boring and smelled gross. “I would never get treated like this in Waterclan.” She grumbled, knowing deep down it wasn’t true. All she had to do was open her mouth and she was in trouble. Puh. These cats simply didn’t have thick skin. It wasn’t her fault. Right?

"I had a brother who went to live in WaterClan," Bonefang meowed. "Perhaps you heard of him? His name was Lighteningswift." He came out of the den and sat down on the ground. "Our father and I would go to meet him in secret."
Slippaw let out an amused, yet slightly exasperated chuckle, having long grown used to her sister's outbursts when she got annoyed. Of course, this time she was slightly more sympathetic, as they both were stuck in the same situation. "It's just because we aren't used to the territory yet, Scorchpaw," she explained patiently. "They'll let us go out eventually, once we get a full tour of Summerclan."
The sound of an unfamiliar voice caused her to turn; her ears picking up curiously at the older tom when he mentioned a brother, then her green eyes widening in surprise when he said the name. "Oh! That's our grandfather's name, isn't it? Phoenixriver used to tell us stories about him!" A nostalgic smile grew on her muzzle as she thought about her late grandmother. Slippaw missed her.

"Your grandfather?" Bonefang asked, surprise showing in his voice. "Then ... then that means we're related! I'm your great uncle, Bonefang!" A big smile spread across his graying face. "I'm so glad that some of my brother's descendants have come home to SummerClan after all these seasons." He was so pleased to meet some more kin.

"Great. How many members does this family have." She grumbled, giving a half-hearted dip of her head to Bonefang. "It's wonderful to meet you." She meowed sarcastically, ripping at the cobwebs under her paw. She didn't mean to let out her frustration on her...what did he say again? Ah, great uncle. She couldn't help but feel out of place in this new clan, especially when Slippaw was so calm and happy.

The elder smiled at Scorchpaw trying to make her feel more at ease. Having to leave the only home she knew must be terribly hard on her - both of them really. "From what I hear, my brother was pretty busy in WaterClan building a family," he laughed merrily. "You have a few more relatives here in SummerClan but I wasn't as active as Lightingswift." He hoped his words and attitude would make the two apprentices more comfortable.
The other apprentice frowned at her sister, ready to chastize Scorchpaw for her disrespect towards their kin. However, before she could open her mouth, Bonefang interrupted with a good-natured laugh, and Slippaw felt herself relax; the elder not having taken the rude comment personally. She smiled softly in relief; the last thing she wanted was more fighting in their family. "Lightningswift was always spoken of so highly by everyone in Waterclan," she admitted. "I wish we could've met him."

Scorchpaw glanced away for several moments, taken aback by his calm response to her outburst. "I wish we could have stayed home." She mumbled, scuffing the dirt with one paw. She missed Waterclan. Summerclan was so strange and there was no waterfall...

Bonefang moved closer to Scorchpaw. "It seemed that my brother really did belong in WaterClan," he commented to Slippaw as he sat down again. "I've heard nothing but good things about him from WaterClan cats." Then he turned his attention to Scorchpaw. "I understand how you feel. I was away from SummerClan for awhile and all I wanted was to be back home. Do you know what helped me?" he asked. "I kept home in my heart all the time." He placed a paw on his heart. Then a thought came to him. "Do you know we have lots of water in SummerClan? We have streams and a lake and a large waterfall. You should check those places out. Maybe that'll help you not to be as homesick."
"A lake?" Slippaw's clover eyes lit up at the word, glittering almost exaggeratedly at the idea of seeing a lake again. "We had a bunch of small lakes back in Waterclan. There was even one in the camp, under the waterfall. That's where Scorchpaw and I learned to swim! Do you remember that, sis?" She turned towards her sister with an excited grin, giving her a playful nudge in an attempt to make Scorchpaw smile. "Do you think you can take us, Gruncle Bonefang?"

"Gruncle?" Bonefang meowed with an amused smile. That must mean 'great uncle' to her. I kinda like it! "If you don't mind going at a slower pace, I can show you the lake. It takes me a little bit longer to walk there nowadays." He rose to his paws and stretched. "It's on our northern border, the one we share with SpringClan. There's a sandy beach too where the wild flower meadow meets the water."

Scorchpaw was definitely not thrilled about all that heart stuff, but as soon as she heard the word 'waterfall' leave the older tom's mouth her ears pricked up excitedly. "Wait. I want to see the waterfall! I bet it's not as big as Waterclan's." She responded, finally cracking a smile and puffing out her chest in pride. Waterclan was known for how massive their waterfall was. Her eyes met Slippaw's and she softened her stance. Her sister was only trying to help, she knew that.

"Well, I wouldn't know about that," Bonefang replied to Scorchpaw. "I've never seen any of WaterClan's territory. But I can tell you ours is fairly high. There have been cats who have fallen to their deaths from the top of that falls." He looked over at Slippaw and then back to Scorchpaw. "The falls is closer but I'll leave the decision of where to go to you two." He smiled at the eagerness of the apprentices. I was like that once.
"We can visit the waterfall first, since it was Scorchpaw who brought up the idea," Slippaw offered almost immediately. After all, she supposed, this whole trip was about making her sister feel less homesick. They could visit the lake anytime. "I don't anyone died falling off of Lovers' Cliff," she commented thoughtfully. "It would kinda ruin the whole myth about how if cats proposed to their mates up there, they would be together forever. Ooooh! Maybe we could make a new Lovers' Cliff here!"

Bonefang smiled at the thought. "It would be nice if that waterfall had a nicer story to it," he meowed. "Legends say that a brave warrior gave his life to save SummerClan from an evil cat there. He jumped the cat, Shadebringer, knocking them both over the edge and down the falls. That happened when Graystar, Graycloud then, was only a deputy. Have either of you heard about Graystar? I can tell you about him as we walk to the falls. If it wasn't for him," he paused and looked at both apprentices. "Neither you or you or me or many others wouldn't be here today because he's our common ancestor. We all came from him." Bonefang stretched his legs and began leading them out of the camp.

Scorchpaw gave a little skip of excitement, listening to Bonefang more eagerly now. "Graystar? I think I've heard of him, but not a lot." She admitted thoughtfully. Her gaze turned gratefully to her sister for agreeing on the waterfall. Scorchpaw had always been a hot-head, but she appreciated her family.

"I'm new to being an elder so I hope I can tell stories in a fun and exciting way," Bonefang meowed as he walked. He was pleased in her interest. "It was seasons upon seasons ago when Graystar led our clan. He was well loved and very brave. Some cats would say he was the best leader we had, at least back then." He paused talking to jump over a fallen tree branch. "I wish I knew more stories about him but the one I do know is quite exciting. It's the story how he saved SummerClan from certain extinction by a wolf pack." He looked over at both apprentices to see their expressions.

"A wolf pack?" Scorchpaw's eyes widened. She had heard growing up how dangerous wolves were since they traveled in groups and had strong jaws that could snap you in half. "How did he save them?" Bonefang had apparently piqued her interest with his story.

"What I remember from the stories I heard from the last time I spent time in the elders den as a kit," a wistful looked crossed his face then quickly vanished again, "it took the whole clan to fight them off. To tell you the truth, I'm glad I wasn't around then because I really wouldn't want to fight a single wolf let alone take on a pack of them." Bonefang was pleased they seemed interested in this bit of history about SummerClan. "For over a moon the wolf pack was picking off cats one by one on our own territory. Many lost their lives during this time." There was a genuine sadness to his voice as he spoke. "A prophecy came to the medicine cat that basically said the only way SummerClan will survive is if the pack leader was killed. The only problem was that Graystar would die as well. So in a great battle with the rest of the clan, Graystar died while killing the leader by locking his jaws on it's throat. It is said he gave up all of his remaining lives - six of them - to save the clan. I don't think any cat other than a leader with extra lives could ever defeat a wolf in a one on one battle. And as the prophecy stated, when the other wolves saw that their leader was dead, they fled and never returned."
(This was a roleplay that was done eight or nine years ago, a real piece of SummerClan history.)
