Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was past time he talk to his Mercenary Superior about the situation on the surface. The flood of the nearby clans had blocked some of their tunnels with debris and the surface had taken a beating as well, though their prey supply was luckily quick in recovering. It was going to be hard work to clear the tunnels, though, and what good were Mercenaries if all their strength couldn't be used to clear blockages? Raijin didn't care for the work, and he suspected they wouldn't either, but the decision was his.
But still, he had heard about Shule, and he had no desire to get on her bad side. So maybe it wouldn't hurt to see if she had ideas first.
Raijin had told her to meet him on the surface tonight, but he was now beginning to suspect his instructions hadn't been clear enough. He'd told her "by those big rocks" but as he traveled he noticed there was.... more than one set of rocks. Oh well, she'd figure it out, right? He sat tall on the top of the rock pile, dark blue fur blending into the night, and waited.

The one benefit the Regime had was it's foresight to build ways for the water to go in case of a flood. Though tunnels had been blocked, and the surface damaged, the Regiment itself was perfectly fine, if a bit annoyed by the dampness that seemed to cling to the earth in the aftermath.
Shule wasn't quite certain where Raijin had come from, or why he'd ended up as Commander. Mars hadn't told her anything of it, and then one day, he was simply there. She had her doubts, but her adopted son also hadn't contested the tom's reign. Perhaps she'd missed something, it would be like her to manage to miss a new arrival, particularly if they had not become a Mercenary. Or maybe her suspicions were right, and soon, she'd have the blood of yet another leader on her paws, this time one of her own group's.
His directions did nothing to quell the doubt in her mind. They were vague at best, and she found herself simply wandering the territory until she found him. "Ah, so these were 'those big rocks' you were talking about." The mostly ebony feline's voice was cold and sharp, the she-cat who it belonged to large and muscular, lost to the shadows save for pale, crystalline eyes and four pristine white paws.
Raijin perked up as she finally arrived and had the dignity to offer a sheepish grin as he climbed to his paws. "Sorry, I don't know the names of these little surface landmarks yet. But you found me anyway," he shrugged and offered her a beaming look. He leaped down the rocks with ease, grit scattering from beneath the rocks as his weight shifted them slightly, and settle on the ground beside her. Raijin was tall and lithe, less obviously muscular than the mercenary, though to his endless amusement his front paws were white just like hers. Not so different after all, he nearly quipped.
There were certain benefits to having a strong-willed Mercenary Superior, but he suspected this was quickly going to grow tiresome for them both. She did not seem the type to appreciate his laid-back attitude. "Come on," he mewed, not really an order, as he started to climb up the rocks again. "Watch your step, they're still a little grimy. Guess the flood came all the way down here." He kicked a lobed leaf off the top of a rock before he jumped higher.

"I don't need to be coddled." She wasn't a newborn kit, she could tell it was still slick from the moment her paw touched it, and soon the Superior found herself among the highest of the rocks, still looking none too pleased as she sat herself down and stared at Raijin with an expression that told how clearly unimpressed she was.
Raijin's blue gaze glimmered with amusement. "It's called basic manners, Shule, not coddling. Even in the League we call out an icy patch before we step on it." He flashed a grin. "Well, maybe after taunting them into a rage so they chase us across it and slide on their belly like a clumsy rabbit, but that's hunters for you." He settled down on a rock near the top again, about level with Shule, and flopped down on his side with his back paws dangling over the side.
"So," he continued, "we need to clear out the blockage in the tunnels. None of the major tunnels seem too badly affected, but a few of the auxiliaries leading to the clans are collapsing or impassable."
To say she didn't particularly like this tom would be an accurate deduction. Shule eyed him with a look colder than the leaf-fall air, her body rigid and unimpressed. "I'd recommend waiting a few more days for them to dry out, and just fortify them in the meantime. If we try to fully repair now, when they're wet, we'll just have to go over them again anyway, and we risk a collapse with the wetter, dense earth. Assess the damage now, and minimize further collapses, and then when they're more stable, we can work to clear them out and rebuild." They didn't want the Mercenaries getting killed trying to repair tunnels that would just break down in a day thanks to the damp dirt anyhow.
Raijin was not particularly eager to wait any longer. The blockages were trouble he wanted to get taken care of as soon as possible, especially the ones that had collapsed with prey or cats nearby. He swore he smelled fish every time he headed down the tunnel toward FallClan, but the tunnel had collapsed midway and he couldn't get past to check it out. "We can start clearing them now. Leave your wet earth behind if you'd like, but surely we can at least pull out some of the branches and rubble that's fallen in. One of the hunters found some thorns that had washed into the tunnel, you can at least clear those away before anyone else cuts their paws."
"Get too close to the wet tunnels, let alone mess with them, and you're just asking for trouble." Shule argued with a shake of her head. "We can take out some of the minor debris, anything that is annoying or generally in the way is fine, but we don't want to get too near the actual collapses while they're still likely to break down more. Better to wait a few days than risk the lives of the Mercenaries. If you're so keen on cleaning them out now, then do it yourself. I'm not sending cats on suicide missions just because you're impatient." She shook her head slowly. "I've lived in tunnels all my life, so trust me on this one."
Raijin eyed Shule carefully, testing how serious she really was, but her logic was sound and she didn't look likely to change her mind. He nodded, accepting her advice. "Very well, we can wait a while for the tunnels to stabilize before we dig into them any further. Let's hope we've gotten any cats trapped out by now. When the time does come, can I count on your mercenaries to take care of clearing away the debris? I don't want to waste hunters, we might be needing all the paws we can get until the prey recover from losing their homes."
