Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Claws digging into the ground to hold her steady, Bearspirit let out a snarl of frustration. The winds buffeted her and she scrambled to push herself against it, as they screamed against her ears. Her whole felt like it was shaking, trying to fight against the power of the storm. The sky had turned an ugly gray and lighting crackled against it, almost blinding Bearspirit a couple of times. The rain felt sharp, as though it was hail, and she swore that if she stood out here for too long, it might cause some bruising in the morning. Her wet pelt seemed to slow her down further, if that was at all possible, though she threw herself forward, sinking her claws into the ground about a pawstep away from where she had been before. She panted, pressing her belly against the ground again, clenching her eyes closed; she was too far from camp to turn tail and race back and the storm seemed to grow with every single.
A loud crack startled her out of her thoughts. She let out a strangled yelp and stumbled to her left, before a broken tree trunk crashed to the ground, right where she had been standing. That was all the inspiration she needed to get out of here. Bearspirit scrambled her way around the hill, staying at a constant elevation, not wanting to go up further - she personally did not want to get struck by lighting, thank you very much.
As she wound her way around the hill, a relieved purr rumbled in her throat as she saw a hastily dug out opening in the hill. She was about to spring forward towards the hole, before she saw a figure in the corner of her eyes; the torrent of rain made it difficult to see who it was and smell them. Although instinctively she wanted to draw claws and some blood, exhaustion made her wary to start a fight. "Over there!" She screamed over the wind, unsure as to whether the figure had seen the hole or not." Shoving her way past the figure, she threw herself into the small opening, panting as she took in her surroundings.
No strong smell hit her nose, as she gulped in air, her sides heaving. If she had to guess, this was an abandoned den and relief flickered in her stomach - although she had to deal with the other cat who had been stuck outside, at least she also didn't have to worry about a furious wild animal skulking around. Bearspirit pressed herself against the furthest wall in the den and started dot clean herself. She kept one eye on the entrance to the abandoned den, pelt starting to prickle with anticipation as to whom she would be sharing this place with during this horrid storm.
Frostcloud had been out before the storm, looking for cats to warn about the storm. She had seen it coming over the valley and wanted to make sure everyone had gotten back to camp. Unfortunately, the storm had come faster than she expected and soon found herself caught in it. She heard a voice saying "over here!" and she turned her head to see a cat rushing into an abandoned den. Frostcloud wasn't sure who that cat was but at least they had found shelter. Frostcloud made her way to the den, the wind trying to knock her over and the rain stinging her face. She had to squint her bright blue eyes in order to see through the driving rain.
What seemed like moons, she finally made it to the den and squeezed in, her white wet pelt brown with dirt and plastered to her body. When she was finally out of the storm, she took in her surroundings, catching her breath. That's when she noticed Bearspirit. She wanted to growl at her and return out into the storm but she knew that wasn't going to be the best idea. Of all the cats in Winterclan, of course she was stuck with Bearspirit. The older warrior pressed herself to the opposite side of the den, as far away from Bearspirit as possible. She stared out into the storm, her icy blue eyes focusing as if she was going to end the storm if she stared hard enough.
As soon as she recognized Frostcloud, Bearspirit's mood sunk further, if that was at all possible. "A 'thank you' would've been fine," she grumbled under her breath, settling herself on the ground. Frostcloud was renowned for her icy attitude - her parents had nicknamed her appropriately it seemed - and now Bearspirit had to share this shelter with her. Fantastic. If Frostcloud wanted to act like a pretty princess, then fine. As she continued to clean herself, trying to dry off her wet pelt, the silence gnawed at her. As soon as it got to much, she stopped with a huff and stared at Frostcloud's back, glaring daggers at her.
"Are you just going to sulk over there like some kit? I dunno what I did to you to make you act like such an ice queen, but seriously? Even for you, this is ridiculous." Bearspirit couldn't help but make a jab at her, her lip curling in a sneer. The coldness that seemed to just ooze from Frostcloud ruffled Bearspirit's fur, if she was being honest. It was the air of someone who didn't care what others thought of her and it annoyed Bearspirit how aloof she could be. Desperately, she wished for the storm to be over. "Can't believe I told you where the cave was," was all she muttered.
Frostcloud continued to stare out the den, flicking her tail in annoyance. Though, when she spoke, her voice was eerily calm but rang with sarcasm, "Right. Because you know all about me, dont you?"
Bearspirit gave a loud huff, rolling her eyes. “Cut the attitude – just cuz you saved me from the pit doesn’t mean that you’re better than me. What is your problem with me? What did I ever do to you?”
"Well, for one. You dont know how to stay quiet" she mewed with annoyance. "And I wasn't helping you. I was helping Leatherstar because some air head fell into a hole."
"Oh, my apologies, I'll remember that for next time," Bearspirit replied, sarcasm dripping in her voice. "It was dark outside, how was I supposed to know about the stupid pit?" Her hackles raised and she immediately went on the defensive. "I'm always back at camp - you know, making sure that the prisoners don't go wild and kill everyone there; I don't have time like you to go skipping around the territory."
"It wasn't that dark." She muttered, rolling her eyes. "Oh, right. Your a baby sitter. You sit around watching prisoners while the rest of us hunt to keep you and the prisoners fed. Your just another mouth to feed."
"We're the reason why this Clan is still here - you couldn't last a single season without us prison guards. You're just like every other hunter; you're too spoiled for your own good. You didn't even know about this cave until I showed you, you would've still been stuck outside in this stupid weather if it wasn't for me!" During their argument, lighting had struck outside, thunder screaming in the sky. Bearspirit had gotten to her paws, her lip drawn back and claws unsheathed.
She licked her chest, trying to calm down the tufts of fur that rose in her agitation, before she settled back down, still staring at Frostcloud. "You know what, I'm done with this. I don't have the energy for this anymore." She turned around, facing the wall, burying her head in her paws. StarClan, why'd it have to be Frostcloud?
"Temper, temper" Frostcloud chuckled. "By the way, I'm the Keeper. Without me, you wouldn't have food in your belly. And without that food, you wouldnt be alive to baby sit. Do you know why you are a prison guard? Because that is the easiest position in the clan other than being a brood and popping out litters. But even then, that's not easy. You just have to stand there and make sure the prisoners dont escape. Whoop-di-do. I'd be embarrassed to announce my position in the clan, if I were you. Your only one rank up from a prisoner yourself. But dont feel too bad. We need low life's to do the dirty work." She smirked, knowing that she was getting under the prison guard's skin.
There was no response from Bearspirit, though her ear twitched. Lighting flashed again, illuminating the cave space for a moment, as rain pelted against the ground. It was going to be a long night.
(Thank you so much for your patience!!! Shall we time skip to the next morning? C: )
Bearspirit awoke, for a moment a bit confused as to where she was. As it all came rushing back, she let out a groan, before rising to her paws. Gritting her teeth in pain, she arched her back in a stretch, her muscles cramping and aching. Padding out to the entrance of the cave, she smacked her lips, still a bit tired. Though she suddenly froze, mid-step, her eyes widening in horror. "Oi, Ice Princess, looks like we have trouble," she said to Frostcloud, her fur prickling. Previously, the cave had been on an open hill, with the trees surrounding it. Now, most of those trees laid on the ground, their wide trunks splintered around the middle, blocking off easy access. Boulders and rocks added to the wall around the hill and even at this distance, Bearspirit could see some of them shifting around.
Frostcloud flicked her ears at Bearspirit's voice before opening her icy blue eyes. She let out an annoyed growl before rising to her paws and slipping out of the den. At first, everything was blurry from sleep but they finally adjusted and she saw what Bearspirit was concerned about. "Great." She growled, narrowing her eyes in annoyance. "Doesnt look like we will be able to go the way we came. We will have to go around the mountain."
Bearspirit's fur rose in agitation and she swore under her breath. "Is that what we really have to do?" It was more of a rhetorical question and after a moment, she huffed and started down the hill, without waiting for a response. As she neared one side of the wall, she eyed in suspiciously, before nudging it with her paw. A low grinding noise startled her and she jumped back, wincing as the boulders shook from the slightest touch. "Not safe over here," Bearspirit called over her shoulder, "too unstable. What about your side?"
"Careful. We dont want you trapped under rocks this time" Frostcloud mewed sarcastically, with a flick of her tail before padding over to her side. She tested it with her paw and it seemed sterdy enough. "We might be able to climb up on this side and make it over."
With that, Bearspirit relaxed a bit. At least there was one way for them to escape. She padded up towards Frostcloud, giving the other she-cat a small nod. "After you - I don't want to risk causing the wall to fall down with you still on this side if I go up first." Even though Frostcloud had said it was steady, doubt clouded Bearspirit's mind.
"Oh, sure. Make me go up first" Frostcloud snorted in protest as she climbed the rock and tree crumble. On her way up, a loose pebble tumbled down and hit Bearspirit on her head. Frostcloud let out a laugh before continuing her climb. Finally, she reached the top. The white warrior went to make her way down but she put weight on a weak branch and she fell, tumbling down onto the other side. From where Bearspirit stood, she could hear a faint "Ow" from the other side where Frostcloud had fallen. Frostcloud rose to her paws and gave her fur a shake, flinging leaves and dirt from her pelt.
