Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Finchwatcher poked her head into the apprentice's den and called out for her apprentice, "Firepaw. It's time for your training." This was Finchwatcher's first apprentice and she was more nervous than she had ever been in her life. She was afraid that she wouldnt be a good mentor. She didnt exactly have the softest heart and could sometimes come off a little harsher than she meant to. However, she had to face her biggest challenge, yet--being a mentor. Finchwatcher had run through all that she was going to teach Firepaw the night before but she was still unsure if it were the right lessons. She wasn't sure how far along Firepaw actually was. After all, the young tom had been born in Fallclan but when his mother decided to come back to Springclan, he had followed her. She was worried that Firepaw would be difficult with all the new changes the poor tom was going through. Luckily, he was still a kit when he arrived and Finchwatcher didnt have to re-do any progress he would have made in Fallclan.
She assumed he would be ready soon after she had woken him and waited for him to be ready near the camp entrance. She fidgeted nervously until she couldnt hold still any longer and began to pace. It wasn't that she was impatient, it was from the mere fact that she was completely terrified. What if he doesn't like her? What if she fails at being a mentor? What if she bores him so much that he requests a new mentor? So many thoughts ran through the tabby's mind and she hoped her apprentice wouldnt see through her and notice how much of a wreck she was.
Firepaw trotted out of the den at the calling. He'd been up earlier, grooming and preparing himself for the training ahead. His ears were pricked forwards and his eyes were bright. "I'm ready!" He said eagerly bouncing out standing tall head held high along with his tail. "What are we doing first?!" He wasn't paying any mind to how nervous his mentor was too keen to get started. Since they'd moved to SpringClan they'd been taken out of the halfling stage, so he was keen to get started with training at last.
"Well, I suppose I should first show you the territory. It's important that you know where to find prey and lay the borders" she decided, relieved that her apprentice was excited to get started. She only hoped he wouldnt be too disappointed in a tour.
Firepaw nodded along, he would've rather they start with fighting or something cool like that, but he was fine with familiarizing himself with the territory he would be patrolling, hunting and defending, so it all worked out.
First, Finchwatcher lead Firepaw to the Winterclan border. As they got closer, the air seemed to drop in temperature. Much cooler than Springclan's territory. Finchwatcher halted at the border, looking over. Winterclan territory was a rocky terrain covered in pine trees and cut off sharply by cliffs. "Winterclan and Fallclan are quite interesting. On that side of the mountain, a jet stream travels through the territories and creates a cooler climate. Even though Winterclan still has springs and summers, the temperature always remains cooler than ours" she explained. "When we have Winter on our side of the mountain, Winterclan gets hit the worst. They have rescue teams for any cats trapped in blizzards. The jet stream hits Winterclan directly so it's always colder on this side. Fallclan is on the other side of Winterclan. We dont border them but I've heard that they are a more peaceful clan. I have met a few at the gatherings and they were friendly. Winterclan cats are not as friendly. They-" Just then, a beautiful and elegant white cat appeared on the other side of the border.
All of her was white except for her dark grey ears and icy blue eyes. She approached the border, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "I hope your not planning on crossing the border. Your awfully close." The Winterclan she-cat's voice was harsh and bitter.
Finchwatcher bit her tongue from a sharp retort and simply dipped her head. "I'm only showing my apprentice the borders."
"Very well. Keep on your side of the border. If I find your disgusting stench on this side, I will speak to your leader myself." The white she-cat flicked her tail and disappeared within the jagged peaks of the mountain.
Finchwatcher let out a puff of air in relief and frustration. "Like I said. They are quite rude. Anyway, back to your training. I would like you to leave a mark, like this" Finchwatcher demonstrated on how to mark the territory and gestured for Firepaw to try.
