Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was unusual to find Hazelpaw out at a time like this; the sky was dark and the wind howled, calling all cats to return to their dens. But strangely, Hazelpaw could not bring himself to do the same; he had been stuck inside the medicine cat den for most of the day, this being the first time he had stopped outside. He stood outside of the camp, eyes and ears open to the different sights and smells that remained. His ear twitched as he heard some of his Clanmates call out a “Good night!” before heading into their dens. The air was thick with the new smells of those who had sought SummerClan out as place to rest after their Clans had been destroyed. He wrinkled his nose and tried to force the thoughts from his mind – tonight was a special night for him; the moon was full and vibrant against the sky and he felt his paws itch to head to his secret grove.
But he stopped himself, feeling eyes on his back. Biting down his irritation, he turned around towards the camp and squinted into the darkness, trying to see who the figure was. “Evening, do you need anything?” He called out, getting to his paws and putting on his cheeriest smile. “You know, you really should be getting back to the den – storm’s coming soon.” As he spoke, a powerful gust of wind buffeted against him and he struggled to stay steady on his paws. Spitting out the dirt that had flown into his mouth, Hazelpaw continued, “If you need anything, I can help?” Please say no, if you say no I promise I will catch the juiciest piece of prey for you, he thought, clenching his eyes closed for a moment.
(Shes pregnant but doesnt know it yet I need someone to tell her <3)
Stormgazer emerged out of the shadows, her face occasionally twisting in pain. "Hazelpaw. I'm so glad your awake. Graythorn is already resting for the night and I know how much of a bear he could be if hes disturbed. I have a belly ache and I keep vomiting. I'm a little concerned..." she mewed, looking at him seriously with kind, blue eyes.
Hazelpaw opened his mouth before, closing it again and giving Stormgazer a loud purr. “Of course, I’d be more than happy to help. Please, follow me.” He padded up beside her with still a bit of space between the two of them. Gesturing for her to follow me, he headed off towards the medicine den, but not before nodding his head to a small alcove to the left. It was right near the den, just in case there was an overflow of patients – there were multiple nests on the ground and the ceiling of the alcove provided a slight amount of shelter.
He stuck his head into the den, before padding back over to Stormgazer, a little nervous. This would be his first time dealing with a patient without Graythorn, he hoped he wouldn’t mess up! “Please, make yourself comfortable. Now, tell me: when did this all begin?”
(Ahhh I’m so excited to see the two of them interact ❤︎)
Stormgazer made herself comfortable, still wincing in pain but grateful that Hazelpaw was here. "It started yesterday and hasn't let up" she responded with a frown. Several nights ago, she had been with a Winterclan tom and now she was having belly aches and nausea. She had a gut feeling that there was more to her stomach ache than just eating bad prey but she was afraid to tell Hazelpaw. She didnt want to get in trouble for meeting with a tom from another clan.
Making a noise in the back of his throat, Hazelpaw watched Stormgazer, eyeing her up and down. "Di you eat anything weird yesterday? Anything that seemed off?" Bellyaches he could treat, but what had caused them was more important; he would hate to diagnose something inappropriately, especially when Graythorn wasn't here.
She shook her head, "the prey I ate tasted fine. That was my first concern was that maybe it was something bad that I ate but nothing tasted foul and it's a different kind of belly ache. One that I cant really describe."
"Can't describe, huh?" Hazelpaw was quiet for a moment, his head still tipped to the side. "Do you mind if I examine you? I'm concerned that..." With a pause, he shook his head, cutting himself off. "I'm not positive, but I just want to check."
"Yes. You can examine" she nodded. She hoped she wasn't pregnant. How could she explain that? She also didnt want to tell Hazelpaw that she thought she was pregnant when it actually was just a belly ache. If he figured it out on his own, she would have no choice but to tell him. If she can avoid telling him that she was seeing a tom from another clan, she would.
It was trick he had learned from watching Graythorn - examining the patient, without getting too close to them. Getting that physically close to someone made Hazelpaw's fur prickle with anxiety, so he chose to stay in the background, while Graythorn looked over the patient. But now that it was just him here, he had to force himself to do what he could. Still keeping his distance, he peered at Stormgazer, taking in everything that he could, treating her more like a lifeless subject than a breathing Clanmate; that was, at the very least, how he was able to get through this horrid experience. After a couple moments, he stepped back, nodding his head. "This is just a preliminary look over - you don't smell like you have some kind of stomach illness, your breath smells free of any kind of cough, and you don't look like you have heat exhaustion."
He winced before he continued, trying his best to forge on ahead without hesitation. "What I'm saying is...the only answer I'm coming up with is that you're expecting kits."
The grey and white she-cat's face grew hot and she gulped nervously. "Kits?" If Hazelpaw thought she was having kits, it must be so. She let out a defeated sigh and hung her head. "I was afraid of that...there...is a chance where it could be possible..."
