Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She made the final blow quick and clean. The squirrel had never even seen her coming. It was odd to see a squirrel in the meadows with no trees but it must have wondered over from sheer curiosity and now it would be the clans' dinner. She scraped earth over the small creature and looked up. It was such a strange world. The little brown creature had been scampering about just moments ago and now lay still and now it was almost a distant memory to her as she scanned the surrounding area with watchful pale yellow eyes.
Opening her jaws to scent the area, an unusual scent wafted towards her and she pricked her ears with equal parts curiosity and caution. Earthclan was not usually found anywhere near this area and she hit among the tall grasses to observe the surrounding area. She may have recently taken on the name Blackstar, but that did not make her invincible. It smelled like a single cat but it would not hurt for her to be cautious in the meantime and evaluate the situation first.
A dark brown tabby tom came into view, stumbling several fox-lengths away from Blackstar. His dark fur was drenched with water and plastered to his muscular body. Where he once had white fur, it was now brown with dirt. His pelt felt gritty and he looked half drowned. He had a few scratches here and there that oozed blood. His usually bright blue eyes were dull and distant. The sopping wet top collapsed in the meadow, clearly too exhausted to continue his journey.

As a dirty, exhausted, weak, and most likely sick tom came into view she froze, watching him. He was clearly not a threat to her or her clan. He was sick and in need. She hesitated, should Springclan take him in? She had the authority now to offer others a place among her clanmates but was it a good idea? The lithe black she-cat shook her head, disgusted with herself. Of course she should offer him a safe place and a warm nest at the very least. She was not cold-blooded like her father. She stepped out of her hiding place and approached him slowly, "You have traveled far. Are you sick?" She asked, keeping her distance but watching him closely.
The tom lifted his head and blinked, seeing two cats standing in front of him instead of one. He shut his eyes and shook his head before looking at the cat again. This time, his double vision cleared and he saw only one cat standing there. He stood up, his body shaking with effort. Despite his exhaustion, he made the effort to properly introduce himself. "My apologies. I do not mean to intrude on your land. My name is Brackenhawk. I travel from Earthclan. Unfortunately, there has been a disaster. Most of my clan mates made it out but some..." he trailed off and lowered his head. "I've come to find help but now I dont think there is anything anyone can do at this point...I was separated from my clan and I do not know where any of them have gone..." Then, he remembered the leader's question. "No, I'm not sick, yet. Just wet, dirty, and very tired." He looked at Blackstar with sorrowful blue eyes.

She could see the desperation and hurt in his eyes. He was reduced to a wanderer trying to survive after an atrocity. She had seen that look more than once and had lived through several disasters in her own clan, none of which had destroyed the clan but did change it drastically and the cats along with it. Normally the leader was prickly, stern, and unyielding but just then her heart felt soft and vulnerable and she dipped her head. "I have seen what disaster can do to cats and their clans. I am Blackstar, a new leader of Springclan. You can take refuge here and rest up and heal. You are welcome to stay as long as you like, follow me." He needed food, rest, and probably a tongue bath before he was ready to make any decisions. "There is a place nearby I can take you. The camp is a long ways from here and you are not fit for travel. Lean on me." She instructed, stepping up beside him. This was unlike her and completely out of character but he had caught her off guard and she could never say no to a cat who was so obviously and desperately in need.
He nodded and leaned on her, "thank you for your hospitality. It's a pleasure to meet you, Blackstar. Its unfortunate that I am not at my best. Some first impression, huh?" He chuckled a little, embarrassed at the fact that he was needing assistance.

"Save your energy and do not be embarrassed. Even the strongest cats have times of need." She led him to a small overhang of dirt and grass. It was a little alcove carved out by who knows what but it was stable thanks to some rocks holding it up. She probably wouldn't take cover here during rain or bad weather but it would do for now in such good and clear weather. She helped him settle down. "I'll be right back with some prey." She didn't wait for his response and scooped up the squirrel she buried earlier, returning to him with the brown creature in her jaws. "Eat this. It will help." She place it in front of him and laid down not far from him. He couldn't be left here alone and she knew her deputy would take good care of things while she was away.
He settled down in the makeshift shelter, tired to the bone. His paws ached and his muscles burned. He seemed to have melted into the shelter, exhaustion taking him over. He had dosed off for a few moments while Blackstar had disappeared. He woke as she appeared once more, a squirrel dangling from her jaws. When she dropped it at his paws, he then realized how hungry he truly was. His stomach rumbled and his mouth watered. He went to take a bite but stopped himself. "Did you want a bite? You caught it, after all." He offered, gesturing for her to have some of the squirrel.

She shook her head, "No thank you I ate not that long ago. Eat up, you need it to regain your strength." She told him. "So tell me, what happened to Earthclan? You mentioned it was something bad that they needed help but it may be too late." She wasn't certain they had the forces to help but it was good to at least be in the know.
He began to devour the squirrel, the taste warm and flavorful. However, when Blackstar asked what had happened, he stopped eating and looked at her with despair. "A flood came a couple nights ago when we had that storm. It came so fast, I'm beginning to wonder if a dam broke somewhere. There was so much water, so fast. It hit us when we were asleep. I tried to help my clan mates escape but I was swept away. I found myself far from the camp. I went back to find any survivors but there were none...the camp was abandoned and the whole thing was full of water. I found a couple of my clan mates washed up and I buried them...I dont know where the rest of them are..." He felt a lump in his throat and he wanted to wail like a lost kit but he was a warrior. He had to be strong.

She gently rested her tail on the tom's shoulder, a soft look of sympathy on her face. "I'm sorry for your loss, you don't need to say any more. Just rest, Brackenhawk. I will stay here with you until you are strong enough to travel, okay?" She tried to reassure him. How could you reassure a cat who just lost everything? Home, family, friends, their clan, their way of life? She wasn't sure there was a way in all honesty.
He gave her a grateful smile before resting his head on his paws as he fell into a deep sleep.
----time skip-----
Morning light shone down on his face and he woke with a snort. How long had he been asleep? He blinked his eyes until his vision cleared from sleep. Was it morning? Had he slept all day and night?

Blackstar had stepped away from the temporary shelter to fetch them both some prey and she returned shortly thereafter with a squirrel and two mice in her jaws. As she set it down she noticed Brackenhawk stirring and his eyes blinking open. "Good morning, I've brought some prey. You must be starving." She nudged the squirrel in his direction and lay down with a mouse between each of her large black paws.
"Oh! Thank you!" He purred, sinking his teeth into the warm squirrel. Within minutes, he had the squirrel devoured. He rose to a sitting position and began washing. He felt much better, regaining much of his strength back.

She scented the air - it did not smell of sickness and truly he already looked much better even if he was a bit too far on the skinny side, even for a warrior. She ate her own mouse quickly and began washing her paws, allowing a strangely comfortable silence to envelope the two strangers. "So, what is your plan now?" She asked him gently but curiously. She had offered him a place in Springclan after all.
