Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Finchwatcher crouched out of sight from the sparrow she was hunting. She inched forward, careful not to disturb anything that may cause her to lose her catch. So far, the sparrow had no idea she was near. She wriggled her haunches and pounced. Unfortunately, her back paws slipped on the leaves underpaw and she fell short. The bird flew into the trees with a cry of warning. "Fox-dung!" She hissed, flicking her tail in frustration.
Careful. Careful. Readying his pounce, Shatteredreign flexed his claws, which were firmly stuck in a branch, then released his grip as he leapt. The next branch wasn't very far, but today he had managed to climb further into the tree than he had previously achieved. Just as his front paws were about to reach the new branch, a bird flitted in front of him, and he lost his grip. Before he could even release a curse, he was falling. And falling. And was he screaming? Or was that just the wind in his ears?
"Oomph!"
Then, he was on the leaf-scattered ground, his rear end rather sore and a she-cat in front of him.
Finchwatcher jumped slightly and let out a surprised screech as a body fell from the trees and landed at her paws. She perked her ears and took a look at what fell in front of her. "Scatteredrein?" She realized. "What in Starclans name were you doing up there, bee brain!"
He blinked his eyes a couple of times, waiting until his daze wore off before he answered, "I was flying trying -- uh. Trying to lye. Fly." Perhaps the daze was still there. He shook his head, and immediately regretted it as the world spun for a little longer. A few seconds later, however, everything returned to normal. "I was trying to fly, of course," he finally corrected, pushing himself up to his paws. "Now, I know that I don't have any wings or anything, but I figured that maybe it was a hidden ability or something." His tone was teasing, and he flinched when he stretched a little too much. Man did his rear end hurt. "Truthfully, I was just testing my strength, but that's a rather lame story, isn't it?"
"No, no, I'm fine. Will be fine." He sat back down with a small thump, obviously lacking his usual grace after falling out of a tree. "Once my heart calms down, I'll be back to normal, I'm sure." It was true, he could still hear his heart hammering in his ears, and it was causing him to act rather odd. Did that count as a near-death experience? Possibly. Slowly, the thudding in his chest started to relax, and he took a deep breath. "I think I'd be happier without seeing another tree today."
Suddenly, the tom stood up, following behind Finchwatcher. "Woah, woah," he said, "Hold up." He managed to get in front of her, stopping her from walking on. "A cat falls out of a tree in front of you, and you just... ignore it?" Shatteredreign shook his head in disbelief. "I swear, you're an odd one."
She halted when he cut her path but a devilish grin was pasted to her face. "Did you want sympathy or a treat for falling out of that tree?" She teased with a smirk and a flick of her tail.
"Just a little bit more of surprise would be nice," Shatteredreign replied, a smile on his face, but he moved aside so that Finchwatcher could continue on. "I mean, how many times do you see a cat just drop out of a tree? Is it really that common of an occurrence?"
"Not many cats fall out of trees. But when they do, they usually dont look for attention." She fired at him, sliding passed him and continuing to walk. "Why were you trying to fly anyway? Did you think you would sprout wings?"
