You can look all over for the moon, but you see it most clearly at night, right? Just like this one, a restless one with a bite taken from the moon, who could only hang helplessly in the sky. Funk E'tan could say that was him, and most likely would, but the break was too clean for his taste. Instead, the nemesis had hidden himself away in his own night, back in the greenhouse. The very reason he was here. It was a sore spot, but he couldn't stop pressing it. Though his mind was far away from thi- his group. Instead, he laid on top of one of the many shelves, stuffed between two potted plants and tracing stars through distorted glass. His lines were all wrong, but he couldn't find it in himself to care.
She wasn't sure he wanted company, let alone one of a kitten, but Yayif-chan hardly cared for the small observation when she noticed the far more pressing one. The tom proved to be in deep thought, and to have such thoughts one needs a plethora of knowledge. She wanted it. She sauntered up from behind and called from the floor. "Hey... I know your kinda in the middle of some deep, deep thinking, but I kinda wanna talk to you." Her voice's unique, guttural sound traveled well in its echoes from the glass walls around her.

Funk fell back to earth at the voice, accompanied by the sound of shattered glass that only rang in his mind. Tilting his head back and upside down, he was a little surprised to find a kit who had managed to get away from the queen's grasp now sitting in his greenhouse. How amusing. He'd find himself guarding the place so no one would tear it up, not to start a conversation with a small one he didn't recognize. His time at the nursery was limited, with mostly interacting with his own kits there. Whiskers twitching in amusement, he rolled over onto his stomach, but didn't leave his perch on the shelf.
"Is that how one speaks to your Nemesis? Whatever you want, consider shaping your tone up first before asking me." Resting his head on his paws, he let out a yawn as he quietly examined her.
Her short, stubby ears twitched as he turned around to address her. He certainly was an odd one to look for her like... that. She tilted her head to the side and giggled under her breath. Funk was just funky. She would never call him Funky Funk or anything like that, but it was hilarious. To her disappointment he figured out his weird little quirk and rolled over to address her. She shuffled her paws and swept her tail close to the cold, metallic ground. "I, ah, just wanted to talk to you. Nothing important. You just looked like you were thinking, and, well, I reallllly like thinking. Maybe I could you."

One of his ears flicked at an unknown feeling as he let one of his paws dangle, claw carving circles in the air as he thought. "So you're telling me you came all the way out here just to think with me?" He tilted his head to the side, ignoring her little slip of the tongue. His own always mixed up their words, so this was no surprise. Still, he was always passionate about knowledge, it will always be the key to power. "Alright, I'll entertain you. What do you want to know?" He pulled that paw up and hoisted himself up before hopping off the shelf, suddenly towering over the kit somehow more than he was on the shelf.

The kitten did not expect the Nemesis to be so forthcoming. He had such a reputation to uphold, yet he seemed to not care about what others see in him. Yayf-chan expected him to be far more confrontational, but here he was doing those weird paw circles in the air. A bit of fear flashed through her eyes at the sight of his claws. It just did not sit correctly with her. The kitten clearly failed to realized that a kit asking a question hardly warranted such a response from anyone.
She took a soft step backward and shuffled her paws again. "I dunno. I just wanted to listen to what you were thinking."

"It's nothing a little one like you should worry about." Funk E'tan ran the blunt side of one of those claws around Yayf-chan's ears, "Things like our inevitable deaths, and what lies beyond that gate, the irrelevancy of borders and politics, how the patriarchy only benefits toms of status and blood, and why did my wife leave with the kids.... oh please karen... yeah all things you shouldn't be thinking about." Funk stopped and returned his paw to the ground, laying his tail over it, "You need to be concerned about like getting the biggest mouse at dinner and learning how to keep your littermates from pouring fire ants into your bed. Y'know, kid stuff."
Yayf-chan froze as he ran his claw around her ear. What exactly did that mean? Care? Impossible. His erratic proclivities made sure of that. A threat? Certainly not, for exact same reason. It was Funk. She flatten her ears and huffed. This tom sure had some nerve to completely disregard her. "Prakpek!" She declared as she practically bounced around the Nemesis. "I think with you on, well..." She trailed off. " I dunno the word for it, but I will figure out eventually. We'll figure it out. Tacl'aba!"

Prakpek? Tacl'aba? He'd never heard words like that before, not even when drunks would talk nonsense. They at least kept using their own vernacular rather than borrowing things from who knows where. Intrigued, he placed his paw back on the ground, green eyes watching the youngling bounce and guiding her away from running into anything with his tail. "Fine, fine. We can think. There's only so much knowledge I have that a kit would find interesting. Give me something more concrete than 'whatever you're thinking about'."
Yayf-chan smiled and flicked her ears. "Okay! Okay! Hmmm..." She paced in a tight circle, almost as if she was chasing her tail. "Well, I mean we can talk about something you mentioned before... " She kneaded her claws into the earth. "I can't remember what it was...oh yeah! It was something about death, like how it is inedible or something like that."

"Ah mortality. The perfect topic for a kit." He sounded like he just had an 'aha, that's it' moment, somehow masking the fact that he was about to tell this kit how they would die one day. "Technically it is inedible. Though death is just the taste of blood. Full of irony. Heh heh. Though the word I used was inevitable, meaning we cannot escape it. All of us will die one day, and you're gonna hear a lot of different ideologies on what exactly happens when you do." Funk had sunk down, laying on the cold hard floor so he didn't have to tower over the kit. Though talking religion was one of his worse topics, there were too many and they all held grains of truth it seemed. He was a little surprised none of the clans had just a simple straight foney religion. But at worst, it seemed you'll just poof out of existence, which isn't all that bad to him.
She flattened her ears and almost spat at her paws. Something felt weird about saying that, so yeah. Even after spending so much time around these cats she still did not quite have a handle on their tongue. It was random at best, stupid at worst. Whatever. Her tongue sounded better. Yayf-chan smiled for a second at the thought. It was not a new idea, but the young she-cat still loved rediscovering it all the time.
Her almost joyful demeanor disappeared upon processing what the Nemesis said. Thinking about her own mortality made a wave of shivers ripple through her. Death was not exactly on her radar, but there was no reason for it not to be. She could die tomorrow... or even the day after! "Ptufi! So, like I could die tomorrow and like, what do you think would happen?"

They said when meeting with your relatives, the two things you never talked about were politics and religion. With his slowly growing family, he was sure he'd have plenty of awkward gatherings in the future. Though right now, he had no idea where they were. Knowing them, they'd show up when he least expected it.
"Well, I guess it depends on what you believe. Some go to Starclan, or the Dark Forest, or wherever the Sun God or Moon God take you. I don't know. For a pair of cults, they don't care to talk about their religion. But, I guess if you don't believe in anything, you may just disappear. Prolly stick around and haunt your descendants and the like. That might be a blessing in disguise to some." Religion was always something he heard about in the mass ravings of his clients, not something he explored himself much, not even when he was medicine cat, "I guess I like the idea of chilling somewhere for all eternity. Don't really wanna disappear though. Once everyone's forgotten you, that's it. And I don't want that,"
The young she-cat's mind raced to process his words. She had never heard of most of these things. The Sun and the Moon gods? No way they were a thing. Starclan sounded familiar from her time eavesdropping on her denmates, but they usually talked about the Dark Forest. Or disappearing. She never really payed them any attention. Yayf-chan loved talking to others about heavy stuff, but it was never fun to eavesdrop on this kind of stuff.
"Sooooo..." She trailed off and silently cursed her self again. She knew what she wanted to say, but had no idea how to say it. "I guess I wouldn't mind being stuck in this place for, like, ever, but... are there like other possible afterlives besides those? Like how many are there?" Of what little she remembered of her mother she vaguely could recall her mother teaching her about this kind of stuff. Everything was fuzzy at best, but the kitten remembered the core ideas.

Did Funk E'tan really look like a dude that studied the afterlife? He didn't particularly care what happened to others or himself when they died, just preferring to live in the moment. As long as there was something, anything on the other side. Even if it was being stuck in the same place, or a forest where the sun will never shine, it was better than just simply disappearing. He never gave it much thought, they were always the comments he just let roll off his shoulders.
But he liked sharing what little knowledge he had on the subject with her. Really, she should have asked him about the best conditions to grow catmint, or something along those lines if she wanted an actually deep answer. "I'm sure there are. Other gods people worship, other ways life can go, good and bad. It's a more vast topic than it feels at first. The only ones that really know are those who have crossed that boundary, and those jerks like to keep their secrets."
