11.06.2022 The site has been transformed into an archive. Thank you for all the memories here!
Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
I had so many different ways to go about doing this. I had written out many different versions of this message, only to realize one very crucial point:
No one cares.
I’d be amazed if there was someone reading this right now. After the hell storm that’s been raging on Classic only in the past couple of days, I’m sure it’s the norm anymore. Seeing these threads pop up.
Does it make any difference?
No.
So why do we do it?
Maybe it’s because we think if you didn’t hear us when we were here, maybe you’ll hear us when we’re long gone.
In the end, though, it won’t make a difference. No one will miss us. No one will notice. Life will continue on as best it does for Classic’s users. Threads are posted and ignored, leaders stress getting in their posts each week, the admins debate over at least one thing before the weekend and end up leaving the chat needing to cool off.
This is the world you live in. Beautiful, isn’t it?
In one of these versions of this message I wrote this morning, I was going to break down Classic’s user count into several categories. Total site users, (1) users who have logged onto the site in the past 4 weeks, (2) users who have posted at least once in the past 4 weeeks, and (3) users who have posted a roleplay post at least once in the past 4 weeks.
I thought by doing this there would be a thunderous realization that would echo across the site and spark change.
Until I realized, again, that it meant nothing.
If it had meant something, wouldn’t something have been done about it before? Beyond the debates and discussions and fleeting thoughts of surveys. Regular users, me, you, anyone who’s held a concern for the site, have posted threads both in the public eye and in the moderator board urging for something to be done to save the site.
Still, nothing has been done, apart from changing the LSAC (that’s Leadership Activity Chart, by the way, for those of you who don’t know) from 20 required posts to your clan per week to 10 posts to your clan per week and 10 extra to the site itself.
Real helpful, isn’t it? Still the same number, just made to look prettier.
But again, no one cares. I guess in a way this is just like a journal entry for me. Getting out those last few words I’ve wanted to say before I leave the negativity and toxicity of the site behind me for good.
It took me a long time to realize that what’s best for me is finding a place that I’m excited to log onto and play on. At the end of the day, it’s a cat roleplay. We’re pretending to be those fuzzy creatures that lick their toes and get their heads stuck in jars. Adorable little fuzzballs that shouldn’t have to deal with existential crisis.
Yeah, I get it. That’s how it’s written in the books.
But did we have to take the mentality of war-riddled heroes and villains conniving with the Dark Forest to our interactions with each other outside of pretending to be a fluffy small being that meows?
No. It’s ridiculous, man. I don’t get it. It’s a roleplay site. Are any of you being paid to debate, make graphics, spend hours coding, and stress yourself out so much you drive yourself to tears or anger for nothing more than a couple of writing prompts that’ll ultimately be pushed under the rug?
I mean, if there’s a paycheck going around for this, I’ve missed mine several times.
Do we have to file taxes on this? “I worked this many hours on Warrior Cat Clans 2. Now, divvy that into my Social Security, 401K, Medical...”
Nah, man. It’s a cat site and we’re trying to kill each other over it.
I mean, come on. How many of you are gonna be like “The clan I play in was put into storage or deleted because the site can’t maintain 14 clans with only 44 active users, fully aware that roughly 28 of those users have leadership roles in those clans and thus place their clans as priority. I guess I’ll lead an uprising and storm the castle. Tie up all of the admins and wrap them into a kabab over the fire. Mmmm, tastes like chicken.”
Yeah, sure. Maybe you’re disappointed. That’s natural. But if three or four clans or groups are deleted or put into storage, is it gonna be a major loss?
Ya’ll would have 10 options at your disposal.
I’m not mad, really. Just real damn confused. It seems the only justification I’ve ever been given by the admins when it comes to ‘Why isn’t there anything being done about this?’ is ‘There’ll be an uprising! The regular users would revolt! It’d be anarchy and a civil war! People would quit!’
Honey, people already are. In large quantities. Your lucky 44 is goin’ down fast.
But that’s okay. You do you boo. Like I said in the beginning of this thread, I’m not here to sit and scold you endlessly about all the ways you’re doing things wrong. That would take way too much energy and time on my part. Like trying to convince a brick wall it can walk. Why try?
I have to say, Faith, you were totally right. People that are made new administrators on this site, when they enter that chat, they talk all about how the site needs to change so it’ll survive and be better maintained and active. How there are too many clans and too few members to take care of them all.
This has happened for several years ever since the survival clans and revolutionary groups were introduced. Have questions? Ask Cleaver, they have access to the moderator site back on Wikifoundry. I’m sure they’d be happy to spill the tea.
And just as Faith lovingly implied, by the time those fresh faced admins are leaving the team, they don’t want to fight for the site anymore.
And boy, have I seen that in practice, many times before. It seems those admins that have fought tooth and nail to protect this site and keep it floating? Yeah, they wind up being driven off or give up.
Like me.
Yeah, I’ve totally given up. What’s the point in fighting for the future of a site when said site ignores you entirely? Nah, man, I value my time and my worth too much to keep up that kind of bull.
Why try and fix a site that’s already dying when I can take what I’ve learned on what not to do and apply it elsewhere?
Welcome to business, baby. shoot rolls down hill. Profit? Rolls up.
That’s not to say there aren’t things I love on this site. Well, let me correct that.
There are people I love on this site. People I adore that I’m reminded of when something happens or that I find comfort in when I’m feeling alone or my parents are screaming.
I’m not going to name names. I don’t see the point in that. You know who you are and you know you’re loved. And if you have any doubt about it, you know where to find me.
What more can I say?
I knew this would happen one day. Maybe not so soon, but. There’s just a small part of me that can’t help but smirk and think: Yeah. I hate being right.
Well, that’s all I have for ya. I’d include more and rant for hours on end to ya, but to be honest, we all know I’m just talking to myself in this here message. That’s fine. It’s been a while since I’ve written in a journal. I forgot how cleansing it is.
So I’ll become another incorrect statistic on your bulletin board. I’m not gonna cancel my account ‘cuz I want to save my characters from the wrath of doom before I do that. But, if out of some compulsory negative emotion something happens to my account in the mean time, I understand.
It’s been fun.
Well, not really, it’s actually been a miserable waking nightmare but.
