Little paw had gotten quite used to her new nest within the medicine cats den, the scent of herbs flowing around her constantly. Eyes still fogged with sleep she lifted her head and opened her mouth in a yawn, everything was as it should be. Looking around the den she got to her paws and padded to the entrance, slipping out into the camp she sat down and began to groom her short pelt.

Blazepaw couldn't help but feel embarrassed. All of his siblings had been promoted, and yet here was still an apprentice. It seemed like no matter how he worked, it didn't matter. No one felt like they could put their lives in his paws, due to his tremors. It wasn't like he asked to be born this way, and it wasn't hard to see the the normally hard working tom was giving up. He hadn't been out on a hunting patrol in over a moon, and would just disappear for days at at time with no explanation. He couldn't stand the look of his disapproving clan-mates any longer. The look of disappointment and disdain that they held for him

Littlepaw spotted the ginger tom and paused in her grooming, she had noticed recently that he was looking down, she knew his littermates had been promoted without him but it was as if he had given up. Getting to her paws she padded up to him, her deep blue eyes reflecting the smile on her face. "Hello Blazepaw." She purred, looking up at him, his larger size making her look even smaller than she was.

"Hi" he replied dully not even glancing up from his reflection in the water of the cenote. He felt similar to the cenote, a sunken in pit with a pool of despair at the bottom. He didn't have the energy to climb to the top, nor fight the waves of despair that lapped at his paws. Obviously this cat had come just to tease him like the rest.

A small frown spread across the she-cats lips and moved closer, sitting beside the tom. "Is everything alright?" She questioned lightly. "You seem a little down, it's got me worried." Her deep blue eyes were focused on the water,their reflection swaying and blurring as the water rippled at the edges.

"You shouldn't whaste your worry over a cat like me..." he trailed off, curling his tail tightly around his body "You are going to be the next medicine cat, I'm going to be another nobody" he knew that his words sounded harsh, but the truth of them cut through.

Littlepaw was slightly taken aback by his words, he was being self-destructive and she knew she needed... no wanted to do something to help him. "You are not a nobody, every cat has their purpose some just take longer to find it." She looked at him steadily. "Until then, would you mind helping me? I noticed some of our stocks are getting low and I don't want to bother Turbulentsea, so will you help me collect some herbs, be my bodyguard?" She gave a soft smile, her words ringing genuinely.

"Well then, how about i'll protect you if you protect me? I know enough about herbs and healing from spending time with the medicine cat that I can help if you do have a tremor." She was no longer the medicine cat apprentice, but she still helped Turbulentsea when she had free time and because of that she knew more than the average cat. She gave the tom a hopeful and warm look as she sat beside him, she didn't want to go alone and the look of despair on her denmates voice broke her heart.
