The scents of Summerclan drifted through her nose like a cologne you could never forget. The breeze whispered through the long locks of golden grass that blanketed the hillside where she stood. She closed her eyes, letting herself be vulnerable for just a second before she opened them once more. Her pitch black coat matched the dark sky above, which almost hid her silhouette from view as she waited on the border. The deputy had spent the last several moons serving her new clan, Waterclan. It would always feel more like home to her than their distant sunny neighbors. However, a piece of her still remained with the clan that saved her. Parts of that piece made up the forms of Fiercepaw and Steelstag, two of her many siblings. She wondered how they were as she sat there waiting quite impatiently for the tom that was supposed to meet her. Tuskblood had noticed them at the gathering. Truth be told, she still had no idea how she felt about the situation. Not long after she gave up her life in Summerclan to help her dear friend, Chimerastar, in Waterclan, he practically began ignoring her. Was this tom her replacement? Or was he something more... It was not something she could assume until she spoke to him. Doestar. They were polar opposites in many ways. She was stalwart and independent in nature. Her rugged appearance and protruding lower jaw made her seem intimidating and harsh. He was bright and cheery like sunshine, and soft in appearances. Something about him, though, felt...broken? His fragility seemed masked by a wink and smile, but underneath were shards of a glass menagerie.
That is what she came to find out. Who exactly was Doestar and what did he want with Chim?
Doestar paced around his den anxiously, resisting the urge to keep chewing at his claws; they were already scraggly from his nervous habit. He had no clue why the WaterClan deputy had wanted to meet him, but it wasn't something he was particularly looking forward to. Truth be told, he was rather terrified of her - she was formidable, and one of Chim's closest friends, and she had been the deputy of his own Clan before him; she made him as insecure as she made him admire her, for all those same reasons - she was incredible, and he'd be lying if he said he hadn't based more than a little of his own deputyship on the stories he heard of his predecessor. But he would much prefer it if he could simply admire her from a distance; she wasn't exactly someone he wanted to cozy up with for the night. You know the saying: never meet your heroes. She'd eat him alive.
But she was important to Chim, and Chim was important to him, and he owed her respect, and so, a little before the appointed time, he slipped out of camp and limped towards the border. Tuskblood was already there, silhouetted faintly against the dark sky like a horseman of the Apocalypse. God, this was going to be terrible. She looked even more incredible than he thought she would, like a fearless queen; what was he? Swallowing thickly, he limped up to her and forced a cheery smile. "Tuskblood," he greeted, dipping his head and taking the brief moment to squeeze his eyes shut and let out a shuddery breath. Even her name felt terrifying in his mouth. He'd joked to Chim about her hunting him down if she ever found out about their relationship, but he hadn't really expected it to happen. When he raised his head, he was smiling again. "I must admit, I was a little surprised to get your message, but you know you're always welcome. How can I help?"
